Hmm. Good point. Guess it's a possible plot hole. I guess part of it is that Tommen and Margaery were actually publicly betrothed, right? Tywin wanted to marry Cersei and Loras, but I don't think it had that formality, did it?

Not getting into book spoilers, but I'm not really clear on what power Cersei has at the moment- my impression based on the first episode Small Council meeting and the Queen Mother/Regent discussion is that Cersei was formerly Regent, but has lost that (I guess because Tommen is of age?). Since Tommen hasn't appointed a Hand, Cersei sort of made herself acting Hand.

She doesn't have the power to break off the engagement as Hand, whereas she might as Regent.

Overall, the Lannisters are a rather incestuous bunch (pun intended). I mean Tywin was going to make himself Hand under Tommen and now his brother wants to fill that role.

Yeah, I basically figured she's acting Hand.

she's defacto Hand/Regent. And the Tyrells are contributing food and forces. The Tyrells stop supplying food to KL in s2 and it led to the riots that we saw.

[up]I forgot out the Tyrell food connection. That's a good explanation.

I guess Cersei can call off her marriage to Loras without problem because neither of them wanted it anyways, and the Marge/Tommen arrangement is already there to keep ties between the houses.

The Tyrells are basically the only reliable allies the Lannisters have now (Littlefinger in the Aerie and the Boltons in the north are dubious, and Dorne is angry at them). The Lannisters need both food and military support from them. They can't just back out of the marriage.

#3206: Apr 30th 2015 at 1:21:01 PM

That's basically it. The Lannisters were in a really tough spot until the Tyrells allied with them. They were in open war with the Stormlands, North, and Riverlands, the Iron Islands didn't want to listen to them, and Dorne and the Vale were content to wait and see what the outcome of the war would be. Their alliance with the Reach is the only reason they haven't been overthrown yet.

I'm with Hodor on this actually.

I'm pretty sure that Marge and Tommen were publicly betrothed while Cersei and Loras was more of a private betrothal and one which neither side besides Tywin wanted,

Finlly finished catching up on the show.

I freaked the fuck out when I found out Sansa is going to marry Ramsay. LITTLEFINGER WHAT ARE YOU PLANNING. I don't believe for one fucking second that he doesn't know about Ramsay's reputation, but I also hope his creepster affection for Sansa means he won't have her undergo horrific Theon-style torture.

Also, Littlefinger needs to stop touching Sansa's face and holding her hand because he is forty and she's like nineteen and errrrrrgh I keep remembering the Eyrie and I just want to cut his hands off.

Brienne needs to rescue her RIGHT NOW.

Correction Brienne needs to team-up with Blackfish and set Westeros ablaze in the best buddy cop duo of Westeros since Tyrion and Bronn.

wild mass guess Greatjon, Thoros of Myr, Blackfish, Benjen Stark, and Syrio Forel all join up and just roll across the entirety of Westeros and just retake the North and expel the invaders.

Fifteen makes the inappropriate touching worse! sad Littlefinger is genuinely old enough to be her father, stated so in the snow-Winterfell scene with his "you could have been my daughter if Twu Wuv had prevailed" spiel, and he's using Sansa as a Replacement Goldfish for Cat.

Therefore I still want to cut off Petyr's hands.

On a lighter note, Teenaged Tommen looks amazingly like Joffrey. I thought it WAS Joffrey somehow until he opened his mouth and he was being very sweet and nice to Margaery. New actor for Tommen is ADORABLE.

[up][up] I'd read this fanfic.

Just the interactions would make it worth it.

Thoros of Myr: Oh Lord of Light protect us...

Syrio: There is only one god, and his name is Death!

Greatjon: THERE IS ONLY ONE GOD I BEND MY KNEE TO AND HIS NAME IS THE KING IN THE NORTH!

Bran: Didn't you worship the Old Gods?

Greatjon: ....YES BUT NOW I WORSHIP THE KING IN THE NORTH!

Blackfish: Y'all motherfuckers need Baelor.

Greatjon: ...THE KING IN THE NORTH!

Though I like to think game of thrones will end with the war over, Westeros in ruins, mountains of corpses, everything said and done...

...and then Benjen Stark comes back saying "Man the line at the supermarket was HUGE—JESUS CHRIST EVERYONE'S DEAD"

So I started to this series, and now I'm up to ep 6.

Basic impressions:

Costumes are great, more violent deaths make me feel queasy (basically anything involving throats), Tyrion's voice is sexy, and goddamn, Jon Snow has the most interesting storyline.

Also, wow, if I didn't know about all the major spoilersnote , I wouldn't have seen Littlefinger's betrayal coming.

Also, Gamer's Throne.

That throne is god-level.

Cool a JS fan. My avatar is Jon Snow as I envision him as I read.

Watched up to ep 7 now.

Gotta say, one thing I found I like a lot about this season is Ned's detective work on the mystery surrounding Arryn's and later Robert's death. Too bad how it turned out. I think he's actually not meant to be a main character, as in, he's one of those characters in detective/mystery/espionage fiction who approaches the truth before anyone else, getting killed off and silenced mid-way.

Also, I must have missed it or something, did Robert ever figure out if Joffrey was actually a bastard? Not that it mattered anything, but still. I'm surprised how Robert's getting gored wasn't shown. Then again, this being HBO, we do see the injury. Pretty tame death in this series' standard, I must say.

"In the Game of Thrones, you either win or you die." I didn't know it was Cersei who said it. How appropriate.

You know, this talk of Robert trying to kill Danerys...she hasn't arrived on the Westeros yet, did she? Also, Joras being a spy. I did not know that bit either. Just how many twists are in this series, I wonder.

Yay...storyline back on the Walls. I love the storyline, because it feels so much like a standard heroic fantasy. Glad that both Jon and Sam would stick around for a long time. Oh shit, Benzen Stark went missing, presumed death. I did NOT hear about this one. Dayum.

Anywho, Dany's taking her sweet time actually getting to Westeros.

Benzen Benjen, shizzle menizzle. Bah.

By the way, am I the only one who hates the sex scenes? I especially hated the scene with Littlefinger and two whores. I was like, "Oh for God's sake, will you two whores just shut up, I'm trying to listen to the plot important things!"

At least the sex scenes involviing Tyrion is somewhat relevant to his character, but gawd.

That scene with the whores actualy made sense. It was Littlefinger illustrating his modus operandi and life philosophy using the whores as an example.

Fine, but couldn't the whores have at least moaned a bit quietly, because I actually had a bit of trouble comprehending what he was saying.

I dislike sex scenes in dramas, except for when they're necessary for understanding some of the plot (they usually aren't). Even those were basically just the procurement, and not the actual sex (Oberyn or the High Septon at Littlefinger's, for example). Danaerys' season one scene was one where the actual sex act was relevant to the plot.

I take the same problem with Supernatural.

If I wanted to watch sex, I'd watch porn.

I like this guy, but I don't feel like writing out his name, so I'm just going to refer to him as The Lorax.

Agreed? Agreed.
