Well, either this is just a stock phrase in disguise or it needs major help to become a trope. As it is, it's well..let's quote the entire description:

"When someone gives an Exposition, they'll often mention something that pertains to a certain event. Questioning the character about it would elicit this response."

It's a lampshade, more or less, of Noodle Incident. Is it anything else?

[up] Based on the very few examples, I'm not seeing anything more than that. I think we can cut this.

Hmm. I thought this was about the phrase, because whenever I hear it I think of it being used at the end of a work, e.g. "we had more adventures, but that's a story for another time."

Was created recently, in violation of that policy. Vote cut.

Cutlist or send back to YKTTW to expand on description and rename so it's not a stock phrase. There may be something there, it's just not coming through in the stub of a description.

I totally did not see this thread last night. *headdesk*

Yeah, I support cut and re-YKTTW. No New Stock Phrases still applies, because the key point of the description is "asking a character will elicit this response."

Someone also pointed out that in addition to the proximity to Noodle Incident, it's also very close to It's a Long Story.

Yeah, I feel safe to cut it now.

Forum virgin, so please be kind.

I definitely think that there is something tropeable in there somewhere, and it should be re-YKTTW-ed. Noodle Incident is usually played for laughs, and It's a Long Story frequently is as well, while this stock phrase is played for...mysteriousness or deepness or something. There's a difference in tone which I think should not be buried in a merge.

YKTTW mk. II is here if you're interested. Also, welcome to TRS!

[up]There has been the suggestion that this is redundant to It's a Long Story or Noodle Incident.

This is also used as an ending to stories with a certain kind of framing device, either to handwave loose threads or turn them into a sequel hook.

Wouldn't this be Canon Fodder? Maybe the two articles can be merged.

It seems that it's at least a type of Canon Fodder. I too think that they could be merged.

I still think it should be cut. Any vaguely related YKTT Ws are just that—vaguely related. The YKTTW that was launched is clearly going nowhere. Not sure it's worth bothering to make a redirect to any particular vaguely-related trope, but if we're really going to do so, I think Noodle Incident is the best target.

I still don't think it's a trope.
