The X rating is the only rating that wasn't trademarked by the MPAA, and suffered a huge decay when porn industries began to place it on their products. The MPAA replaced X with NC-17 to demonstrate that X is for movies without artistic merit, in their eyes, and NC-17 are just movies meant unequivocally for adults, but with redeeming value, in 1991. I think the first NC-17 released movie was Henry and June. But the advent of Showgirls, and its total failure, has sunken the rating's reputation completely. (Things learned from censorship studies.)
Verhoeven was reportedly trying to make a serious movie with sex in … but now we're getting of the subject.

The flagging mechanism for articles is going in in a few hours.
Goal: Clear, Concise and Witty.... 1140 reports?! Wow, someone must've been on a flagging drive for the past week!
Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.Eddie, I think we might want to clear off the queue because that's going to take forever to get through and most of it is completely unrelated to this.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. Dick@Marq: There was a general action by Eddie to flag anything behind the Mature Content wall.
I despise hypocrisy, unless of course it is my own.Hey all,
I agreed to join the panel in good faith. I thought I would be helping the site. Since then, what I have seen is people making every possible effort to make bogus categories and find loopholes in those categories for pages and pages on end. Further, I've been witness to mounting internet drama, with Librarian Of Babel being banned and Bobby G taking an indefinite break.
Truth be told, for the week or so since this subforum got started I've been of two minds. The load in my life is impossible and I'm constantly juggling work, my Math/Comp Sci degree and my gf's constant cries for attention. It occurred to me that in the precious few moments I have to get busy with a hobby, I would rather work on my novel than judge degrees of pedophilia. But then I figured that this is my chance to do something concrete to give this site a push in the right direction. It's an influential site, for better or worse. Writers come here looking for advice, guidance and inspiration.
With Librarian and Bobby now gone, and this thread so full of people having spent the last few days finding every possible loophole, giving the moderation every possible headache and making every possible equivocation so their favorite brand of Pedoshit no Fapfapfap can stay on the wiki, I can no longer find this conviction in me. Throughout this thread I kept telling myself "These people can say whatever they want, let them, in the end it's going to be me and the other four making the decisions", but you know what, people? This is your wiki. You are its writers and readers, and I don't have it in me to go on this huge effort that apparently no one will appreciate except Google, a handful of mods and Fast Eddie.
Speaking of: Eddie, I would like to personally apologize to you for backing out of this. You were talking about back-up candidates if I recall correctly, and I'm sure one of them would be willing to step up.
I think it would do good for me to follow Bobby's footsteps and take a break. As I said, the internet drama has been mounting, and it's just not something I need in my life right now. I wish the best to you all.

Eddie, I was under the impression that we were going to be able to make more detailed decisions than just porn/not porn. Most of the ones I'm seeing on the first page of the Content Violation Reports do seem pretty cut and dry, but there are a couple fanservice pages I want to look at more closely. They're not porn, but might need a cleanup. What do we do with that?
We will proceed with four panel members, then. We'll continue looking for a fifth member. If we get a hung panel in the meanwhile. I'll cast the tie breaker.
Goal: Clear, Concise and WittyAs a point of irony, can I apply?
^^ That's one of the dispositions the panel could make.
Goal: Clear, Concise and WittyAlternately, if you think something needs to be looked at more deeply than the options on there indicate, you can make a thread for it in this forum instead.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickIs there any way we can get these sorted by whether they're typed as works or not? Because I'm wading through a massive amount of tropes here, most of which seem to just be on the list because they're flagged for mature. Which is fine, and we'll have to deal with them eventually, but I'd prefer to deal with the works first.
I'll work on the works first, maybe starting from tomorrow. I hope the namespaces/variations made it less numerous than it first appears.
The words above are to be read as if they are narrated by Morgan Freeman.I skimmed through and voted on a bunch of works and tropes that I know well.
Eddie, do we open threads to vote on stuff that's been cut and doesn't show up on the list? Unless I just didn't look hard enough, I couldn't find Lolita, or Kn J or Lotta yes Underagesuccubus so I could vote to restore or keep cut.

"Did anybody invent this stuff on purpose?" - Phillip Marlowe on tequila, Finger Man by Raymond Chandler. Can I be on the panel? But seriously, what happened? I went to do some kid wrangling, and now it's 4P instead of 5.
Right, that as well.

Panhandling sign glued to hands. Need $5 for solvent. As I understand it, P5 wasn't because there are five people on it, but because there were 5 Ps to get rid of. So it's not suddenly P4.
I guess that's true. Although maybe it's 3P since we're getting rid of perversity, porn and pedophilia.
It's the Panel for the Prevention of Paedophilia, and Pure Porn. That's where the Ps are from.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickYou know, you could easily make it the P9 or such if you wanted to make it into an Overly Long Gag:
Panel to Prevent Perversity, Purge Pornography, and Prevent the Proliferation of Pro-Pedophilia Pandering
Well, that's P10, but still.
I think the thing that is on most folks minds the most is which works are trouble. I'm still hooking up the flagger, but as soon as that is done I can clear the present list so that only the newly flagged works show up.
Goal: Clear, Concise and WittySo, with regards to the flagging mechanism, will it be set up such that once a work has been reviewed and found to meet TVT standards, it will prevent future flagging of said work and its subpages?
Let's just say that the word "ecchi" as an actual word in Japanese has a lot of possible meanings depending on the context, but all of which revolve around sex. Hitori ecchi, for example, means "masturbation", and ecchisuru means "to have sex", while ecchi alone can mean "pervert", "lecher", or some other such moniker.
