Question,my liege: Are they required to discuss the works before voting?

Oh, that looks good.

The disposition space at the top has a text box for me.

Same here and a button that says close.

The work queue is under development.

The panel is not required to discuss an item. They can call for comments if it seems like they would be useful. The buck stops at the panel, though, if they decide it is porn/perv/pedo/prurient, then that's it.

That supercedes all the indications from the mods that there will be an appeals process?

I believe he was including the appeals process in that statement, since it's the panel who's going to look over the appeal after all.

Consdering the mistakes that have been made and misunderstandings of works in this thread and elsewhere an appeal system is a must IMO. Like a thread here to state your case and let others rebuttal to convince the judges P5.

I thought it was P5 that will vote on cutting yada... Not restoring.

My concern is that the P5 will have enough on their plate going over all the flagged articles; letting individual threads go up for each article appeal will gum up the system too much.

They can start a thread on an article if they think it requires additional debate.

There have been a lot of mistaken for X events around and really I do not like "it's done gone for good" without a chance to put forward an opinion, especially if its a hard to find work that P5 could not have found to watch or read, something that might be borderline, cultural standards etc etc. (and I would be very pissed if something I liked got cut and I could not state my opinion of it especially if it was completely uncalled for)

While P5 have the final say tropers should be able to put in their two cents... In a non-Flamewar way especially since its unproven and might seem very quick to jump the gun. (in addition to not trusted by everyone.)

Because that has already happened more than once.

I agree with Fighteer. Their judgement is to be trusted, all decisions made by them are final, and it isn't the place of us to go against that decree.

There is a thread to appeal cuts. It's right next to this one. We just do not want to open it up to a broad debate by half the troper body. That way leads to chaos, as we've already observed.

That's what I meant, I'm not saying there shouldn't be an appeals process, but individual threads aren't needed unless the council say they are in a given csae.

I can think of a couple things that can probably use a hairy eyeball, but aren't blatantly urgent. Should I post them here or wait for the flagging system to go up?

And will the flagging system include a space for the flag-ee to comment on why the work was flagged, or is it just a "check this please" notice?

You can list it in this thread. I don't know what form the final flagging system will take, though.

If none of the five of us have seen the work and know nothing about it, we'll open a thread to solicit opinions on that work. But personally, if I can get the info I need to make a decision from Wikipedia, Google or skimming pages online if it's manga or a comic book, I'm not going to be asking for advice from anybody else because I might have missed a "deconstruction" or "subversion" or whatever.

I probably already got my way once, so it's working so far, anyway. I suspect I'll wait for a formal flagging system, and to wait to see what happen with the big test case, before I do the other one.

To clarify: is there eventually going to be a defense thread (one post per person per work, perhaps) or subforum (with, perhaps, one post per person per thread and one thread per work)? I seem to recall that being tossed around, including by some mods, on the other thread.

The final flagging mechanism will be a big ol' button on the article you can push if you see a content violation. Should be implemented sometime today.

Is there going to be a wiki page explaining this whole thing?

Will we be allowed to post defenses when we see something up for review that we think should be spared?

If the 5P call for discussion, sure. Otherwise, I'd say no, unless you can disagree on discussion pages.

Anime.Papa To Kiss In The Dark

Originally a shoujo-targeted Boys' Love Genre Light Novel series, but the novels are not available in English, so Western fans know it from the OV As, which are legally licensed in English. The main character is a high-school freshman (age not specified but Japanese freshman = probably about 15) who ends up in a relationship with his adoptive father, who is actually his uncle. There is some very tame on-screen sex. The execution is typical light-angst teen romance but the premise probably justifies a look. (Note that although some Western fans consider it shotacon because of the main character's young-looking design, it is not labelled or marketed as such in Japan.)

Manga.Litchi Hikari Club

Graphic horror manga legally licensed in English, starring a depraved gang of junior-high boys (age not specified, junior high = approx 12-14). There are two brief but explicit sexual acts between the boys, and a brief view of a younger girl who has been assaulted with a pice of piping in a way I don't particularly want to describe, all played for shock value. (Also lots and lots of gory violence.)

So nobody's allowed to discuss the things that have been flagged here, or in Wiki Talk, nor is there going to be any thread here else to discuss them. Is there anywhere at all we are allowed to talk about what we're seeing on the flagged list?

We are talking about it, but it has to be limited in scope — like allowing a single, short rebuttal. Also, the P5 said they would open threads for debate if they are uncertain. If you don't trust them to act responsibly in this matter, it's going to be very difficult to have a productive discussion.

FYI, the initial list is not intended to reflect our intent to cut any of those articles; Eddie seeded it from the mature content flags. It should be possible to pass most of those without much in the way of debate.
