Thanks, Shima.
...More badges next time I'm on the computer, I promise. :/
Ponders too much; thinks too little. Currently goes by Knowlessman....I don't think that's going to pass as a badge idea.

It's time like these that the troll post needs its own badge. It works so hard for us. *sigh*

Alt account of Angeldog 2437.We needn't care, since it's probably something incredibly stupid, anyway.
Back on topic, I'm just wondering: should there be a P5 badge? I mean, we already got badges for every other staff position, right?
Experience has taught me to investigate anything that glows.Yes. A shield with a 5 on it is the first thought here, a bit like the H in the Herald and the M in the moderator ones.

Yu hav nat sein bod speeling unntil know. (cacke four undersandig tis)the cake is a lie!I'm trying to find out who made the original ones. They might still have the template.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickI think Lock made the Herald badge.
"If you aren't him, then you apparently got your brain from the same discount retailer, so..." - FighteerWe could make the Zodiac badges colored in reference to the Homestuck trolls. Also, I notice that despite it being pointed out that the Chainswords and the Police Box are indeed copyrighted, they are still around. We should probably, you know...remove them. I mean, the point of the badge shop is to money, not to get what little we've got sued out of us.
I see you've made your decision. Now let's see you enforce it.How does "we should make stuff in reference to Homestuck" get said in the same figurative breath as "we should take down the stuff owned by other people"?
Fresh-eyed movie blogChainswords aren't copyrighted, unless you have actual evidence of a copyright on that particular item. (Which would be a dangerous precedent to say the least)
As for the Police Box, it only seems to be copyrighted in the context of Dr. Who merchandise and paraphernalia.
What if we, tropers - Homestuck fans, contacted Hussie, asked for permission to use the Homestuck symbolic as badges and he officially gave it?
That is the one thing we WOULDN'T need permission on. It's just changing the colors of zodiac symbols. It's only a homage. Not like Gaia and their godsdamn candy corn horns.
Nope. The BBC owns the blue police box image totally, and even if that were the case, we ARE using it in the context of "Look at this, like the TARDIS!" even if we don't outright say it.
About the chainsword:

I see you've made your decision. Now let's see you enforce it.Just because they are trying to claim a copyright on every single nuance doesn't mean they own the copyright. I'm of the opinion that they can't copyright a chainsword anymore than Nintendo can copyright a fire arrow or Sega can copyright a golden ring.
I agree.
Alt account of Angeldog 2437.I'd like to note two things regarding the Western Zodiac signs. One, we briefly discussed doing the Homestuck colored signs before, and we shot that down before due to copyright concerns. Two, they're currently colored based on what classical element they are said to represent, which honestly is much more wide-reaching and established anyhow.
For the police call box, found an interesting site that gives some of the backstory. Here is the relevant page on the issue, including the Metropolitan Police's objection over the trademarking of the box. We dance the line due to the ruling on purposes of promoting Doctor Who... but it's worth noting that they did note that similar designs have been used across the globe and thus cannot be copyrighted. We'd probably be able to get away with using it so long as the default text did not mention The Doctor in any way, shape, or form.
I think that Games Workshop could only claim ownership of a chainsword specifically if nobody else had come up with them (several of their weapons cannot be copyrighted due to that). Any chance anyone did a chainsword before they could secure it? Any at all? (Also, strictly speaking, there is just enough difference between ours and theirs that we might be able to claim homage instead of plagiarism.)

Reminder: Offscreen Villainy does not count towards Complete Monster.Even if we take out the little "or a Doctor" bit, it's still a TARDIS. People are buying it because it looks like a TARDIS. No matter how much we say it's a police box, it's a TARDIS.
However, changing it to a different color(like red) would probably fix that.
I see you've made your decision. Now let's see you enforce it.Sure, make it purple.
Goal: Clear, Concise and WittyEddie, I lack a way to swap images from existing badges currently.
