My personal opinion was a split, but that's for when everything isn't so hectic.

Since the two very commonly co-occur, I don't see the point in splitting, but that's an argument for TRS.

[up]x6 But isn't Tv Tropes supposed to be family friendly? Sorry to say, but 60 pages of rape isn't really family friendly. What if some kid goes looking for a show he likes and finds one of those pages? I'd suggest cutting the pages or moving them to fetish fuel wiki, because we really don't need all that here.

[up] As has been discussed before, rape is used in media as a trope, and not so infrequently as to make it Too Rare To Trope. It happens. To deny that would be to deny the existence of significant plot points and significant aspects of storytelling in certain works.

The tropes, their descriptions, and their examples should not be written in a manner that celebrates rapes, turns it into a form of titillation, or details it explicitly. (And if there are articles that do that, say so so that they can be cleaned.) That is what "family friendly" means.

Anyone who is on TV Tropes either ought to be old enough to understand, at least in some measure, the reality of rape and be able to deal with the idea of its representation in media in a mature fashion, or should not be browsing the wiki unsupervised. As has been stated over and over, we are not trying to make the wiki small-child-friendly.

These pages are not going to be cut. That's a work to be done in TRS, and you have offered no reason to do so. This line of discussion is now over. Back to renaming.

Now there are pages called Rape Stockholm Syndrome and Victim Falls For Rapist, which seem to be about the same trope. Is there some unfinished work with the rename or something?

Yep. Apparently the re-rename got a little screwed up. I'm pointing both Rape Is Love (original title) and Rape Stockholm Syndrome (initial rename) to Victim Falls For Rapist (name decided on after determining that the initial rename was inaccurate).

That one still needs wicks moved, and there's no way I'm going to be able to get all ~600 myself.

EDIT: And even going through the few wicks that I have, we're definitely going to need to TRS Victim Falls For Rapist to split off the rapist-rapes-victim-because-they-love-them variety which had been covered under the original trope but makes no sense with the new name.

Hmm...any ideas for the rapist justifies rape because of stuff like 'I can't help myself! I love you sooo much"?

I think it would be a subtrope of that. It's already covered as its own trope; it's just that the rename has narrowed what makes sense to have covered in that trope. But this really is more of a TRS issues, I think.

Would anyone object to getting a crowner put up for one of the three tropes we still need to rename? I think that's probably the best way to move forward on those, as discussion has clearly petered out too much to just pick a name via discussion.

[up]Go ahead, I'd say. Petered out or no, the issues are still here.

Just a heads-up: "titillation" needs two Ls.

Downvoted Author Glorified Abuse since #1 it's not just about abuse and #2 it looks like an insult against authors.

Um, quick question? Maybe I missed it somewhere, and I know it's too late to change the names back and all, but I'm curious: what kind of idiot would think the old names meant TV Tropes was condoning such actions?

And no, the people at SA don't count. You should know that by now.

This one's been going for two weeks, and Romanticised Abuse is leading (16:1; next title down is Abuse Depicted As Sexy, with 6 votes each way). Time to call?

That was the amazing part. Things just keep going.

Just to be clear, are we talking ANY kind of abuse here, not just rape?

Because if we're renaming the rape tropes and replacing them with the word "abuse" solely to Erase the Dreaded 'R' Word (especially if appeasing our dollar and/or "family-friendly" overlords is involved), then I can't say I'm a fan of any of them.

Sorry I'm late, by the way.

EDIT: Or maybe I'm misreading and "Romanticized Abuse" or whatever is not talking about the rape tropes specifically? I have a lot to catch up on, so forgive me if I miss anything.

[up][up] The crowner (with Romanticized Abuse as the leading option) is for renaming Abusively Sexy. It's about abuse generally, not rape specifically. And nowhere in this thread have we tried to remove the word rape when it was appropriate for the trope.

I called this one. This is probably the best we'll get.

Okay, doing the base move from Abusively Sexy to Romanticized Abuse now. I'll get the non-index wicks once I'm done with the Rape as Comedy to Black Comedy Rape ones.

I'm happy to do the wicks; you've been working so hard on the others.

Edit: And done. I've left Sandbox.Magnificent Bastard alone for the moment, seeing as it's preserving the old description, and edit requests have been put in for the locked pages.

I've created an alt titles crowner for Its Not Rape If You Enjoyed It.

edited 5th Jun '12 10:42:40 PM by Nocturna

AlternativeTitles: AbusivelySexy

Crown Description:

Vote up names you like, vote down names you don't. Whether or not the title will actually be changed is determined with a different kind of crowner (the Single Proposition crowner). This one just collects and ranks alternative titles.
