That's not a good name according to the criteria we're going for. Arousal Equal Consent still sounds like we're condoning the attitude expressed.
EDIT: Fine. I'll rephrase the response.

I have no idea who you are responding to, Nocturna.
But seriously, I do think Dark's is on the right track. Yeah, needs maybe another qualifying adjective or two to make it clear we're not condoning it, but it's close.
I can agree with that.
That's a step in the right direction... Arousal Equals Consent Rationalization also comes to mind, but that's a little long.
Rape Is a Special Kind of Evil...
So do we propose a rename in a vein of 'He Who Must Not Be Named', like "Utterly Horrid Special Kind Of Evil"?
I really don't see why. The trope is about rape; it should have "rape" in the name.
No, I think that title is good as is.
Agreed. Rape Is a Special Kind of Evil gets the idea across quite well.
Rape Is a Special Kind of Evil is not one of the tropes that we agreed needed to be renamed. The three we did agreed needed to be renamed but have yet to agree on a name for are as follows:
- Abusively Sexy: Proposed names:
- Its Not Rape If You Enjoyed It: Proposed names:
- Common Rapist Defense
- Common Rapist Excuse
- Happy Rape Victim Excuse
- Common Rapist Rationalization
- Rationalizing The Rape As Consensual
- Common Rapist Justification
- Rapist Rationalization
- He Enjoyed It Rationalization/She Enjoyed It Rationalization
- "Not If They Enjoyed It" Rationalization
- Oft Used Rapist Excuse
- Pleasure Based Rape Denial
- Arousal Equals Consent Excuse
- Arousal Consent Confusion
- Arousal Equals Consent Rationalization
- Rape as Redemption: Proposed names:
Are we at a point where we can start working on crowners for these? (I'd suggest doing Its Not Rape If You Enjoyed It first, as that seems to be the most problematic of the three to me—the other two are over the line, but that name in particular is on an entirely separate continent from the line.)
We didn't do crowners for the other renames, but at this point, a crowner might not be a bad idea.
I just thought of (another) potential new name for Its Not Rape If You Enjoyed It: Confusing Arousal For Consent.

I like that one. Not particularly concise, but clear.
I think all titles in the spirit of "rapist rationalization/excuse" are too non-descriptive (there is far more than one such "rationalization"). Out of the rest of the title, I'd say Arousal Consent Confusion is the best, the rest are kinda long and bland.
Also, why does Rape as Redemption need a rename?
Because it implies that rape can be a good thing (redemptive). Which, as should go without having to be said, is just plain wrong.
Quick question: If TV Tropes is losing ad revenue for hosting these rape tropes, what will changeing the title of these tropes accomplish? The title of the page could be changed to be less of an issue, but if the page it links to is this long page describing rape, then wouldn't the censor see that as kind of a red flag? I meen, its not as if the ad guys are going to look at the changed title, look down and see all the rape that they wanted changed and say "Oh, well close enough."
I eat bacon sometimes. As far as I can tell, these renames aren't to do with ads and such, but with how the old trope names sounded like we were saying rape was okay/redemptive/funny.
That was the amazing part. Things just keep going. The OP explicitly stated that Tv Tropes is losing ad revenue from the titles, BUT judgeing content is not exclusivly based on the title alone. If the content of the page is full of rape, renaming the trope titles "Surprise Sex/Sexual Harassment is x if y" won't change a thing. EDIT: And having SIXTY PLUS of these pages isn't helping.

I eat bacon sometimes.No. We are no longer losing ad revenue. It's been restored. The fact that we have Rape Tropes does not mean we endorse them in any way, and that is what these renames are clarifying. There is no reason not to document these tropes. Cutting them was considered, but we took action much faster and fixed the issue.
"If you aren't him, then you apparently got your brain from the same discount retailer, so..." - FighteerDid we ever rename rape is love?
Yup, it's Victim Falls For Rapist now. Which only covers half the trope, it may need TRS at some point for a better name.
Calling someone a pedant is an automatic Insult Backfire. Real pedants will be flattered.Yeah. Rape Is Love covers both instances where someone who's been raped falls for his or her rapist (covered by Victim Falls For Rapist) and instances where the rapist believes or rationalizes that they're doing what they're doing out of "love." We may need to put the latter examples into a new trope.
