I've been policing new pages pretty ruthlessly to control new misplaced pages.
I think the overhang is mostly because of mistyped pages being corrected and perhaps changes in the databases that control the counter.

OK, ~St Fan, I think I've figured out what the problem is.
A little less than a year ago, Eddie has created a tool that can move pages. I've been using it for moving newly created work pages in Main/ to the correct namespace, since they (usually) don't have many inbounds.
However, the Article Count doesn't register these moves.

Okay... note, though, that I'm not so much using the article count than the new page type per namespace tool to make the statistics. Though I guess it can have the same problem.
What is the result of these automated moves? A non-existent page with the "work" type? Or blank pages? And is there a way to locate and correct them?
That's strange ... that tool does register that the page has moved.
For the tool itself, it leaves the page history behind as well as the entries in other pages' Related To tabs (in other words, it leaves ghost wicks). It does move the discussion and it removes the old page, much like the cutlist. Otherwise, you can only tell because I always edit the page after the move (to make the Related tab work) and put "Page move" as a default edit reason.

Is there a Useful Notes In Main page like with creators and works, or are those listed on Work Pages In Main, or are those not listed anywhere? (sorry if this is the wrong place to ask) (mostly I am asking here because it looks like Useful Notes has a very poor namespacing percentage)

They are dispersed among the various Administrivia pages - mainly, the Work ones.

Hmm, I have not seen any in the Work Pages In Main subpages is all. If you look at the top of this list: https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pagelist_having_pagetype_in_namespace.php?n=Main&t=usefulnote it looks nothing like WorkPagesInMain.A To C
I wonder if more useful note pages would get migrated if it were easier for troper to locate them?
An Useful Notes Pages In Main page, yeah? Seems good. I'll note though that the status of the Logical Fallacies pages is hazy so don't add them there.
