A mod for Generals that continues the storyline after the Zero Hour expansion, and adds a resurgent Russia and a United Europe as new factions.

Basically it's the best mod ever and you totally need to get it.

And I have no idea what was giving me trouble before, I'm just glad it works now. No online though, I need to download an update or something and I'm too scared to fuck with anything lest I break it again.

Oh really when?

Dude, take the risk and download the update. It'll come with it's own online server client, meaning we won't have to use Hamachi or any other third party services to play. Plus the updated EU, Russian and GLA factions are pretty sweet, you'd be missing out on a lot of stuff if you don't.

Nah I got the 1.85 version which is awesomesauce, I need SWR server 1.00001 or whatever to play online.

And online stuff isn't too important to me so I don't wanna break what I got already.

Aww dang. :/ Guess I'll be stuck playing against Germans and other europeans... or a couple of Syrian kids. Seriously, how the heck do they still have internet or working infrastructure over there at this point?!

[up]Some areas along the coast are still completely under government control and are mostly untouched. For now.

When you guys mean a continuation of the Zero Hour plot, does it mean an actual continuation or just a skirmish mod with extra backstory?

Right now it's a Skirmish mod with extra backstory but the final release is going to have proper campaigns and so on and so forth.

Seriously, go get it. It's easily one of the best mods for anything ever.

The final release of shock-wave was supposed to renable the campaign.... and have a navy.

I will belive there claims when I actualy see them.

Well it's going well so far.

Even so a skirmish thingy is still plenty fun. Hind swarms are great.

The background plot is surprisingly well written, too. They tried to make the (admittedly ridiculous) premise of the GLA invading and controlling all of Europe through Germany sound plausible.

Furthermore, all of the factions have gone through a significant overhaul. The USA is now more heavily drone-reliant, and had some units such as the Aurora bomber switched out for more balanced choices. The GLA production structures now double as tunnel network entrances along with now having an airforce. And China, while still mostly the same, had a lot of their units nerfed in exchange for being able to build most of their stuff faster and cheaper than the other factions.

The biggest change however is the significance the Generals powers now have. No longer are you just unlocking a single unit or support power, but rather a set of additional units and buffs. For example, having the GLA select the air support option first allows them to build the airfield, build Migs or Toxin crop-duster planes, as well as Gazelle rocket gunships, in addition to some airstrike support powers. Unlocking Russia's Tesla tech gives you Tesla tanks, shocktroopers, and the Tesla coil base defense. USA's unlocking USA's SOCOM power gives you both the Pathfinder sniper and Navy SEALS, in addition to an upgrade for Colonel Burton.

If you want to see what I'm talking about, go ahead and check the Trope page for the mod - yes, we actually have a page for Rise of the Reds!

God I just wish I had a proper heavy lift chopper or something for the Russians so I could move vehicles to far away places.

Can't tell you how many Grumbles I've lost because they have to drive their slow asses to where they're needed.

Which is very unrealistic. The USSR did and Russia does have some nifty transportation options. I wouldn't have minded a transport that's considerably slower (though still faster than the slowest Soviet/Russian ground vehicles) and more expensive than the other factions' own, but also that much more durable and even carries a bit more units.

The other big issue with the Russians is how expensive their equipment is, especially when it comes down to the late game and resources start drying up. Their arms dealer trucks are easy targets, along with their Industrial Center, meaning you're gonna have to constantly waste money replacing those when they inevitably get targeted. China doesn't seem to have that problem anymore for some reason - I guess it has to do with how cheap their stuff is now, or the additional options they have for hiding their hackers.

Keep your arms trucks in your industrial center and surround that bitch with Grumbles and Arena emplacements.

Also make a big effort to capture those buildings that lower production costs around the map.

Which is difficult because it's a hell of an effort to get any serious help over there. Those airdropped Shilkas can only do so much.

[up]Believe me, I do, but the Russians absolutely need to have a big base with expansions to win. Then it becomes an issue of defending one asset in exchange for leaving others open. So either you lock down the Industrial center and the nearby trucks and consequently ignore the capturable buildings around the map, or focus on aggressiveness at the cost of leaving your base exposed at parts.

I've had some success with sending construction dudes out to those points in the opening seconds of the game but I've also had days where that failed horribly and my main base wasn't ready in time for the first wave of baddies

Best bet is to get the Early game Russian vehicles like the Tunguska and Kodiak tank up and rolling ASAP: they're by and far better than most of their counterparts in that tier, and should be able to fight off most. In contrast the Russian infantry suck... until the Schmel napalm rocket trooper becomes available. But again, the downside to that is you're gonna have an exposed base for certain in the early game if you went for the War Factory, so...

I got it. I'll start as the Americans and unlock the Starlifter then have a daring Ranger bridgade go capture a Russian command building and then make my own Russian construction bros.

Then I can finally transport my Grumbles.

I really wish I could ever get RA 3 working on my laptop. It's a new-ish machine, Windows 7 64 bit Home Premium, but whenever it starts up, it's behind a black screen. It's actually running (I can hear it, and I can hear clicking when I move to the right parts of the screen) but no way to see it.

No amount of Google-fu or suggested fixes ever solved the problem, either.

Finally decided to play Tiberium Wars campaign on hard mode. The computer getting free troops at set intervals is bullshit. But I have aquired new appreciation for commandos. Get those fuckers fully ranked and watch them like a hawk and those godless death machines can solo missions for you.

In over a decade of playing C&C, complete with missions where commandos are your only unit, I have no idea how this fact is only now dawning on me.

The only commando unit I ever used in the entire series was Jarman Kell so I could steal construction dozers.
