I understood the bottle but not the fairy. I shall return with humorous title suggestions.
That was almost a year ago. It's been long enough to revisit the topic.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickSo, is there any misuse in wicks for the work? Wick check?
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanWell, in that case, can I get an appeal, please? It was close. I really think it should be renamed.
'Nother idea for a name:
"Liquor Lass".
Evil is my favorite color.Agree that this is worth revisiting, but "It was close" is not true, was 28-29: a "pass" would be consensus, which is about a 2:1 majority... Rename would need about 30 unopposed Up votes.
Becky: Who are you? The Mysterious Stranger: An angel. Huck: What's your name? The Mysterious Stranger: Satan.I would rename. I always think of Final Fantasy I.
Wick check?
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanWell, the big argument is shares a name with a work, which is against the rules wick check or no. It always makes me think of Zelda honestly. For the longest time I thought a bottle fairy was a fairy you kept in a bottle to heal you.
You can go ahead and do a wick check if you want though.

Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickLet's see what we've got:
- A-cupAngst: Sink Hole
- A-GENTS: Zero Content Example
- Aborted Declaration of Love: Referencing Hayate The Combat Butler, example edging towards Lady Drunk.
- A Confederacy Of Dunces: Closer to Lady Drunk.
- Adaptation Distillation: Referencing... Iron Man? Yup. Describing the main character from Iron Man as a Bottle Fairy.
- Addiction-Powered: Two Pot Holes, one referencing a valid example in Darker Than Black, the other another shoehorned male example (this time from El Hazard) howeverrr...
- Adorably Precocious Child: Valid pothole.
*wick wick wick* ...more coming later... *wick wick wick*

Evil is my favorite color.Where does the name Bottle Fairy come from, and what is its relationship with the work it shares a name with?
We're not just men of science, we're men of TROPE!It comes from the English language. It has no relationship with the work. It comes from like books and newspapers and things.
As far as I can tell, the name is simply "bottle = alcohol, fairy = girl," with no real Trope Namer.
And as stated before, this trope has beaten a rename at least once. Yes, it was a year ago, but unless some new evidence comes up, its just poor form to have another crowner.
I don't think it should be renamed unless there are some hard evidence that the trope is broken.
The Internet misuses, abuses, and overuses everything. If it's not being confused for the work, I don't see a reason to rename.
Rhymes with "Protracted."If there is confusion for the work, then I'll support a rename. However, so far as I can tell nobody's really that interested in Bottle Fairy.

Last time we were pretty surprised to find that no one was mistaking it for literal fairies in literal bottles either, despite the fact that we're missing that trope.
Could this be nominated for a Trope Transplant so we could make that trope?
Although, to be honest, I'm now tickled by the title Can Of Sprite.

I don't see the point of a trope transplant if it's not widely mistaken (in wicks) for a fairy in a bottle. That would cause misuse, not prevent it.
If it's being used for male examples, are we missing a trope for a male version?
We're not just men of science, we're men of TROPE!I can't think of anything. It does seem like a good idea, though. The male version is very similar, extroverted, cheerful, usually of secondary importance, a mentor-type in tasks of ordinary social life, kind of a big brother.
I'm finding that even the female examples just seem to be "woman who is drunk a lot" even if they have none of the other personality traits.

Until reading this thread, that's what I thought it was. I think it fails Guess The Trope.
Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's PlayI have to remember every single time what this trope is.
Crown Description:
Vote up for yes, down for no.
I was reading the "Bottle Fairy" trope page and wondering why it was called that... when I realized that there was an anime called that.
Isn't our policy to avoid having tropes with the same name as works? Didn't "Hunting the Most Dangerous Game" get changed because of that? Did it have any misuse or anything, or was it just that?
This trope has nothing to do with bottles or fairies... I can't really even tell why it was named that... and it's not really all that witty. Normally I'm pretty neutral on the whole SPOON-vs.-FoRKS-vs.-PLATTER and KNIVES debate, but in this case I think I'll have to side with SPOON.
I think a good name for it would be "Genially Drunk Gal/Girl"
