For some reason this is already on Beastof Battle, only its rather cropped.

If we want to change the image that currently on this page I have this suggestionOr we can leave the image thats on the page and change the one that is on Beastof Battle page

Crop is similar, aspect of BoB is weird.

I prefer the image on War Elephants to be on the Beast of Battle page, and a replacement with a more traditional elephant on War Elephants. The suggestion in OP works.

Edit: Actually, I went ahead and changed the image on Beast of Battle. Same image, only without the awkward aspect ratio. This does not mean it should stay there if it's agreed it should be changed, naturally.

I foresee this rapidly switching to an IM on Beast of Battle rather than War Elephants. I say keep the picture for War Elephants because this trope is a lot more specific than Beast of Battle, which encompasses all animals and would thus be easier to replace.

[up] Yeah, I came to that conclusion myself after seeing [up][up], which is an excellent picture for that page.

Question: Is War Elephants a direct subtrope of Beast of Battle, or just related?

I would rather that War Elephants have a picture of actual elephants (not mumakil) and Beast of Battle have something that isn't a pachyderm.

Mumakil actually are elephants. In the books they are described like so.

Real elephants don't get that big.

Mumakil are "oliphaunts," an extinct creature explicitly larger than extant elephants.

Trivia: The US Special Forces manual for the use of pack animals has a section on elephants, right after the chapter on the llama. Unfortunately the main thing is says is that due to their endangered status, military personnel should not use elephants.

[up] That's better than the original. Although I like the suggested Beast of Battle He-Man picture. Both ought to be changed.

Lol! Poor oliphaunts. Get pointed out because of duplicate. Both get changed. evil grin

The Movie!Oliphaunts are crappy anyway. Tolkien made them as elephants, not 6-tusked mutant freaks. (No natural elephant could possibly have more than 4 tusks.)

I have to admit, [up][up][up][up] is a clearer, cleaner pic than the oliphaunts for War Elephants. Battle Cat works fine for Beast of Battle for me.

I support post 12 for War Elephants and He-Man's cat thing, or whatever that is, for Beast of Battle. Replace both Oliphaunt images.

Unless we can find a hilarious enough Dino Riders pic. I have found a few. That would be a separate thread, but I'm dumping urls here so I can close these tabs.

If you want to start a new thread for Beast of Battle, go for it. I remember the Dino Riders...had a few of 'em IIRC, they could use a little more love.

Well, #12 seems to have a majority, though it's not a large thread. No objections, though, and the thread is old.

Catbert's suggestion in post 12 is the best.

And that manual you referenced is pretty awesome, by the way.

Alright, I'm gonna run with #12 for War Elephants; it's up and tagged, and a note about it is added to the Real Life folder's note about Hannibal. Start a new thread for Beast of Battle or just change the link and title of this thread and keep going here?
