Maybe they just saw the Disney movie and assumed that it was an accurate take on the story.
My Twitch.Seems unlikely, given that Mero specifically mentions the whole losing the man at the end and I think the turning to seafoam thing. If they were watching the Disney version they wouldn't be tragedy freaks, they'd just be hopeless romantics.
Dost Thou Desire the Power ... Glove? It's so bad. Then yeah, no excuse for why Mero thinks the ending was a good one for the mermaid.
My Twitch. Its clearly a deeply ingrained culture thing that's been going on for a long-ass time.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Hans Christen Anderson is a bad influence on mermaids.
Did we ever get chapter 36, even?
It's been fun.Yes & I just realized by reading between the lines again that Mero's daddy may have ran off with some random human chick. WOW! Not that the queen is any better & is in fact way worse ya gotta wonder if the Merfolk society is on the verge of collapse when being ruled by despair-junkie idiots who Junko Fucking Enoshima wouls approve of. My god I hope karma bites her in the tail-fin.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Rather annoying if you ask me. I would have prefered it to remain a trait specific to Mero. =[
Flippé de participer à ce grand souper, je veux juste m'occuper de taper mon propre tempo.I thought it was more idiotic how the chapter treated Mero getting over her tragedy fetish as a big character growth, but then immediately reverted it because Status Quo Is God.
My Twitch. It's a bit more complex than that. She didn't get over her tragedy fetish per se, she just realised that she didn't want to be the one who got the losing end of the stick.
She's gone full on NTR fetish now.
Yeah it seems like she wants to be the wife now considering she stole Kimihito's first kiss & wants Mia to join as the mistress instead. Better than her tragedy fetish as its clearly shown to just be a typical if weird sexual fetish.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."The problem is, for the most of the time in Real Life, you can't just simply change overnight. You change slowly, reinforcing your new belief little by little.
This manga isn't super invested in making the monster races complex. They have a load of animalian traits and a hat.
Hell, the harpies even all look the same.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersThat's fair enough, yeah. Oh well; I consider this the first step toward the legendary harem ending. If one mistress is exciting, surely six must be unbelievable.
It's been fun. This is a totes realistic manga with its characters, gais. What with how Ms. Smith doesn't get herself fired with her Bunny Ears Lawyering or how the monster girls would be deported/arrested for 2nd degree attempted murder.
(Yes, 2nd degree attempted murder actually exists. A lawyer friend told me all about it and how weird the law works)
My Twitch. It does well enough with the characterization, I'd say. The situations may not be realistic, but the characters are consistent enough.
It's been fun.I just found the whole big "I'VE GROWN!" change in Mero amounted to near nothing, because the author wanted to keep his tragedy jokes.
My Twitch.I just realized that the ending to this arc picked the most realistic choice possible. Cause what's the gang supposed to do? Topple a monarch in charge of a large kingdom? Imagine the political bullshit especially from the human world that would happen. They basically decided to wash their hands of the whole issue realizing things are quite literally too big for them to handle especially since Mero will most likely leave if her mom's found out to be an insane psychopath. It helps that its implied that no one in the group really forgives her or thinks of her positively anymore. The merfolk society will prolly collapse on its own since both its king & queen are shown as massive incompetents.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."That does kind of remove Mero from the running, though, unless she decides to abdicate entirely and let the mermaid kingdom fall into anarchy or settle into republic.
It's been fun.Poor King.
Being a monster guy sucks.
RealidadeSo Mero's entire culture is built around one of Hans Christian Anderson's works. I'm also pretty glad nothing major happened like a political uprising. There's drama and there's unnecessary hang-ups on the narrative.
Could have brushed over it for comedy.
"When the truth came out, the queen was overthrown. Due to belief in her magic, Oct was elected to replace her despite protestations... from her. She spends the majority of her time arguing with her subjects and weeping."
Or "When the truth came out, the queen was overthrown. Princess Mero had long amscrayed back to her homestay house and nobody wanted those two fish guys in charge. Oct refused. The mermaid kingdom was wracked with chaos. Until a normal crab sat on the throne. Now the oceans are at peace."
Forever liveblogging the AvengersKing Crab. I get it.
My Twitch.
Hell yeah it is. Seriously why the fuck do they keep romanticizing the Little Mermaid. It is most defiantly not a pleasant experience.
