Being able to defend oneself is almost certainly a mark of competence. As is the inability to do so and requiring others to rescue you a mark of incompetence.

Yes, and? There are five pages in the first thread and 4 in the second one, both covering a lot of ground. What's the relevant part? Or are you suggesting that because we've talked about it before, we can't do better?

Sorry, no, and was still looking for the thread that picked the current image; mostly linking to previous discussions as an FYI. Would kind of prefer that months of discussion didn't change course in a few days following one post with no suggestion for improvement, tho. Don't think a crowner is warranted, not without more than one option or at least more discussion.

I think the Sonya picture is good myself. Unless there are any other suggestions it gets my vote.

I find the current pic better than Sonya. The latter looks more like a case of Bathe Her and Bring Her to Me.

Well it's just two people standing there. The police woman isn't doing anything that makes her seem strong, and the woman in the skirt isn't doing anything that makes her seem weak. It's JAFAAC.

The police woman is the one looking ahead, gun in hand, and the other one looks nervous. I see a very clear difference in strength.

"I don't see it" is not what Just A Face And A Caption means. Really dislike seeing that phrase tossed around inappropriately, which is a lot.

Difficulty in creating crowners has been an issue for some time, but there is a brief how-to guide on Everything You Wanted To Know About Changing Names.

How To Pick A Good Image also discusses how the crowners work.

Crowners

• When multiple good images are proposed for a trope with no consensus on which one should be used, create a crowner by copying this URL, replacing the "InsertTropeNameHere" in the url with the name of the trope, then pasting it in a new browser tab. Then click "Yes, do it" when asked to create the crowner. Link to it in the Image Pickin' thread, and holler for a mod to attach the crowner to the thread.
• The purpose of the crowner is to decide between multiple images that are all equally illustrative of the trope. If an image has been determined not to illustrate the trope (or to illustrate the wrong trope), don't put it on the crowner.
• Crowners are generally left open until voting slows down. All crowners must be open for voting for at least three "business days" — e.g. if the third day falls during a weekend, the crowner is left open until Monday, as forum traffic tends to slow during the weekend.

I think I was the one that put in the page quote (if we're talking about the Yu-Gi-Oh abridged) which references the idea of proving women can be as capable of men by comparing women against other women. I realize that is sometimes, but not always, the train of thought when this trope is played straight. Can't think of anything else off the top of my head though...
