All-Purpose Namespace Icon Thread: Sandbox.Namespace Icons

Go To

This thread deals with all issues concerning the icons used for namespaces and their buttons, including proposals for icons for new namespaces and bugs with existing icons.

When submitting an icon, the icon images should be exactly 16x16 png with a transparent background. A gif can also be used, but png is usually better. Also, the naming convention is important. It should be the namespace in lowercase.

I am compiling a list of namespaces that need icons, and icons for those name spaces. This would be preferred to be done quickly because I've convinced Eddie to hook them up when I get them complied. I will be editing the OP as we go.

NOTE: Use the link to the sandbox in the thread title to see what still needs to be decided on.

Subpages that still need icons:

  • Animation/
  • FanWorks/
  • Manhua/
  • Sandbox/
  • Timeline/

Subpages that already have icons hooked up (please note, this list has been collapsed into a note, so that the floating header post isn't huge)

Links to installation-ready icons here and forward.

For some reason, I really wanna use :v for Machinima/. Garrys Mod in-joke and all that.

But a more realistic suggestion would probably be John Freeman (for example) or a MJOLNIR Powered Assault Armor helmet (for a Red Vs Blue reference - for example), although I'm not sure how well either one would scale down to 16x16.

Neither are usable for 16x16

Yes. Using paint doesn't take long...

Plus it's obvious these wont be dicernible at all even without shrinking.

Yes, I am batch sending them in because of the nature of how they have to be put into the system. Like the new Bollywood one. Much better orange. Can someone give me a list of which other ones have been chosen?

[up][up] ...yeah, you're shrinking the entire image. I meant just the face. (I suppose I glossed over that, though. Sorry!)

I'll probably give it a whirl when I get home. I'm not especially confident in them, though.

[up] It looks like the second theater mask is the current favorite for Theater/, if that helps any.

Well, I did place a suggestion for the Comicstrip/ button earlier, and here is the button based on my suggestion. Will this work?

I now go by Graf von Tirol.

I resized John Freeman's head. I'm not sure about it.

I resized the Halo helmet. Not really feeling this either. I mean, I can tell it's the Halo helmet, but I'm not sure it's clear enough.

Also, I didn't really like how the Homestar icon came out - black background, one eye bigger than the other - so I took a stab at uploading it. Just added a row and a column of blank pixels to the upper-left.

[up] I've got the same problem over here. I tried with xkcd's hat guy and a Cyanide and Happiness' character. Neither worked.

Something felt a bit off about that one. Mostly, the neck there - Randall doesn't usually give much of one.

Still, using that as a base, I went ahead and tried to spruce it up somewhat. I have a transparent one and a non-transparent one (respectively). Not sure how well the transparent one will look on various background, but I tried to ensure it'd stand out as best as possible.

EDIT: ...bleh, and now a pixel in the top-left of his head is hard for me to not notice - makes the head look shaded. May have to tweak this further...

EDIT 2: Okay, took care of that, should be better. (For posterity, old transparent, old non-transparent.)

Flipped the arms around. This version is a bit cleaner than yours since I still had the original doc open. Having that many pixels right at that point really makes it look messy. It's part of the reason Randall's stuff shrinks badly. Too much going on at one point. Besides, the idea is to make an icon for webcomics in general. Not to make xkcd fanart.

I like shima's stick guy.

The words above are to be read as if they are narrated by Morgan Freeman.

Shadow Hog's stick guy is proportioned better.

The Tragedy mask for Theatre/ doesn't look quite right without the Comedy mask.

Rhymes with "Protracted."

By the by, just to clarify, I know there's a Web Original/ header, but there isn't a Web Animation/ header, correct? (If there is, Homestar'd fit better there, and we can use that computer icon for the catch-all Web Original.)

Instead of two masks, could be one mask that is half comedy and half tragedy.
