No custom title, only one wikilink, no indexes? Wow did that never go through any YKTTW I know of.
An Ear Worm is like a Rickroll: It is never going to give you up.Actually, given that it only has one example, we should just cut that page and then re-YKTTW the trope from the beginning.
Would you be up for that?
Fight smart, not fair.Like scissors cuts paper.
An Ear Worm is like a Rickroll: It is never going to give you up.Is it still used seriously some of the time? If so, it should be moved to Undead Horse Trope.
edit: I moved it. It seems like it's still taken seriously in some cases, despite how often it's parodied.

If it's still played straight along with being played with a lot, that's Discredited Trope. Undead horse trope is something that... well the page is written as "it should be dead but isn't".

I'm on the internet. My arguments are invalid.I am not sure if it fits in any of the "horse" tropes. Yes the typical Rocky montage is sometimes parodied, but these parodies are more often homages instead of disdain for a overused trope. Just being parodied doesn't make a trope a dead trope.
Having some kind of Training Montage is not out of place in a work when someone learns new skills or prepares for a fight. I don't think it is a dead trope, its a valid part of storytelling.
No, this trope is still alive and well. It's parodied occasionally, but it's played straight far more often. I've seen it played very seriously in recent media. It's a good way to show a character learning something and a passage of time. It really fits better in occasionally parodied trope, which is living.

Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickUndead Horse Tropes are living.
And looking through the examples, saying it's parodied "occasionally" is an understatement.
Ah, good point and this line from that page fits this trope very well: "The majority remain necessities for genre and narrative reasons for which non-cliched explanations have yet to be able to provide a suitable alternative."
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickPutting music to the montage is usually parodied today, but there are plenty of training montages even today that just show snippets of a person training in between dialogue. Technically Kill Bill has a training montage by that idea. "You're the Best" montage is technically something a little bit different, but The Karate Kid did have a regular training montage without the uplifting music.
Even the ones that don't have catchy music tend to have mood music. It's just unless it's really catchy your brain tends to filter out the instrumental background music in your memory.

This is in no way a Dead Horse Trope it is very much alive and well. (Hell chapter 239 of Negima gives a 4 page spread for one.)
Sparkling and glittering! Jan-Ken-Pon!I agree.
In general, people are way to quick to declare things a Dead Horse Trope. I've seen all sorts of stuff listed there that has shown up plenty of times in media produced in the last few decades.
And on that note, I question the validity of Undead Horse Trope, as it's basically a form of Tropes Are Not Bad.
I'm on the internet. My arguments are invalid. It seems that Undead Horse Trope is mainly complaining about tropes someone dislikes. And people think, that being parodied or played with sometimes make a trope invalide/dead/undead...
I agree that this is not an Undead Horse Trope. It's still very much in place.
"If you aren't him, then you apparently got your brain from the same discount retailer, so..." - Fighteer"Subversions are common enough to be their own tropes, yet the original trope, even if it's the Oldest One In The Book, is still in active use and isn't even (universally — opinions vary) seen as cliched or corny. It would be a Dead Horse Trope, except it isn't actually dead. It's Undead."
If you disagree that this describes the trope, fine, but can you guys at least base your arguments on what the Undead Horse Trope page actually says? It makes it pretty clear that the tropes on the page aren't dead or invalid.
It makes it pretty clear that the tropes on the page aren't dead or invalid.
Calling a trope undead strongly implies that it should be dead and this devaluates a trope a lot.
If a trope is alive well used an valid we don't need to put a mark on it because it is sometimes not played straight.
Discredited Trope is the one you're probably looking for.
Rhymes with "Protracted."So create a TRS thread on Undead Horse Trope.
Is there a reason this thread is still here? Anything left to do?

This seems done. Locking. Good work.
Crown Description:
Vote up for yes, down for no.
Might as well use this space to call attention to the fact that someone made Youre The Best Montage, which could also be confused for Training Montage. Reading it, I find that it's describing a different type of montage that we don't have yet, and should be renamed to Tournament Montage or some such. If need be, I can make a TRS or move it myself.
