Anyone remember when Tim Burton did new stuff? Not just remakes or unnecessary sequels?
Now he's taken to remaking himself. Wonder who Johnny Depp will play in this one...
EDIT: Huh, no Johnny Depp. Surprising. Also, according to The Other Wiki
A movie being pushed for release for almost a year? That's never a good sign.

It should be noted that stop motion takes a truly insane amount of time and effort to animate, they could be using that extra time to put finishing touches on the final scenes.
I am kinda on the fence still about this. The original worked because it has a simple premise: Take Frankenstein's most famous scenes, and re-do them set in suburbia with a kid raising his dog. It's simple, and it works as a short because it doesnt outstay the welcome of its gimmick. I am curious how Burton will lengthen that story to abour 3 times its length without it feeling stale or padded out or repetitive.
Will he just try to convert the entirety of the novel using his gimmick, rather than just the most iconic bits? Not sure that's the way to go.
Yeah, just like that dickbag who remade his short film into District 9. Lazy douche.
The reason alot of short films get made is because the people who made them wanted to make actual films and couldn't get the money to do it. Not Burton has the money to do what he wants, so good for him. I'm not as excited about this as I am for Paranorman, but I'm one of the 6 people who enjoyed Corpse Bride, so I'll probably enjoy this too.
Plus it comes out on my birthday!
Ooh a trailers out now? Sweet!

"If you're out here why do I miss you so much?"I've got to rewatch the original short now (I have the Special Edition Nightmare Before Christmas DVD which is on it)
Looks fun and Tim Burtony like usual
I'm on Youtube Reviewing Things Cause I can.Haven't seen the orginal short but this looks fun! Might see it.
Persona 3 Portable LiveblogI've seen the original, and I'm totally excited about this film.
Fantastic Weapon Generator!Haven't seen the original either, but I will totally go see this. I love Halloweeny stuff. Plus, the dog design reminds me of Family Dog.
"Proto-Indo-European makes the damnedest words related. It's great. It's the Kevin Bacon of etymology." ~MadrugadaWell at least Vincent will never be made into a movie, but this looks like a great return to Tim Burton.

6? Add me in for 7. Honestly, besides the abysmal Planet of the Apes, I just don't get all of the Tim Burton hatred that goes around the film scene.
^It's funny you should mention Vincent since the animation here is so damned reminiscent of it. It's giving me goosebumps regardless of how stupid the trailer's ending is (the movie better not have that kind of an ending Stinger). And keeping this in mind, my hopes for his stop motion Addams Family movie just shot up.
http://www.longcriercat.deviantart.com I'm thirsty. Got any ink? Resident Pen Ward antagonist.Don't be so sure. I didn't think Frankenweenie would be turned into a movie either!
Wait, general consensus says Corpse Bride is hated? That's news to me.
Anyway, my friend made a joke a while ago how anything Tim Burton signs off on instantly becomes 80% more marketable. I'm having a really hard time finding an argument against that.

He and Depp were the sole reasons Alice in Wonderland was successful. Don't deny it.
That said, Frankenweenie looks miles better than Alice. And that movie is what got me interested in Burton's work in the first place. The fact that he seems to be going back to his roots with this is a plus as well.

You are displaying abnormally high compulsions to over-analyze works of fiction and media. Diagnosis: TV Tropes Addiction.Really? But Alice wasn't even that good... I hope you got around to watching some of Burton's genuinely good stuff. Like Big Fish, which is probably my favorite of his.
Well Vincent Price is dead and I don't think Tim would want to make a movie without his idol/friend.
Also known as Achillesforever6 of Lordkat.com fameI've seen Pee Wee's Big Adventure, and I keep trying to watch Corpse Bride but I always get interrupted.

Looking for some stories?Alice was... OK. I don't think it was brilliant, but it wasn't a bad way to spend an hour and a half.
"Proto-Indo-European makes the damnedest words related. It's great. It's the Kevin Bacon of etymology." ~MadrugadaIt wasn't up to Tim Burton's usual standard, but it was about average for Hollywood. A somewhat enjoyable popcorn muncher.
Not Three Laws compliant.I wanted to love Corpse Bride, I loved the characters, sets, premise, even some of the songs, but the story felt predictable and drawn out.
Nightmare Before Christmas was the same length, and felt like SO MUCH happened. You saw so many different places and characters and crazy events...Corpse Bride has so little content in comparison and not much of a climax.
bogleech.com for my writing, comics and cartoons.I feel Corpse Bride suffered from being a bit more of an emotional storyline rather than an episodic plot. With Nightmare, we're introduced to a character thats a schemer and makes plans for himself, ultimately changing the world around him. With Corpse Bride, the central protagonist is much more of a reactor, so his plotlines are much more centered around the people next to him. Which isn't bad, but unless you've got some grand schemer who can get the plot going, you're left with a character that does a lot of wandering.
Anyway, Corpse Bride was emotional and it definitely fit the story much better than doing something like a Nightmare Remake. That's what Coraline was for.

I'm surprised that this doesn't have a thread yet, but here's the trailer for Tim Burton's remake of his 1982 short film.
