Even Fake Interactivity would be better, I think.

Gentleman Troper!
The trope name is so much broader than the trope that it's misleading: the trope is not about all non-interactive things, but merely about things that appear interactive but aren't.

Fake Interactivity is good, though.

If this is about kid's shows, the name should reflect that. Fake Interactivity implies something that normally is interactive, when TV shows are not.

Hugs for everyone!
No, I would think Fake means it appears to be interactive, but it's not. I'm not quite sure how you could have fake interactivity in something that is otherwise interactive.

However I do think it's missing something in the title, because it absolutely must play on the viewer not knowing that the media isn't interactive.

Have parts that look like they are interactive, but are either not, or the interaction is minimal. Bonus points if the developers or marketers claim these parts are interactive.

Yes, I've seen that stuff before.

Come to think of it, I do remember some Shovelware that ended up doing that, or at least insinuated that there was far more interactivity than was actually in the final product. (One was a heist game that was like Myst, if Myst had exactly four puzzles)

By the way, should we move any of the description to the SelfDemonstrating namespace, or is it fine as is?

What's the basis for saying that the trope is underused? As far as I know, it's just not a very common trope. Especially since people on this site don't really focus on kid's shows.

As I mentioned in the Image Picking, I want to nuke the description. It's just annoying, to the point where I just close the page.

I agree with [up], though. I don't think it's an all that common trope. I don't think the name is the problem. Unless someone can come up with an [awesome]awesome[awesome] name, I don't think it will matter much.

Tsundere pet.
This is a thing, as anyone who has watched kids TV recently knows, but it needs a better title. Not Actually Interactive TV? Pause For Audience Response?

Calling someone a pedant is an automatic Insult Backfire. Real pedants will be flattered.

Fake Interactivity would seem like a supertrope at the very least; it is the basic concept that something promises interactivity without actually being interactive.

This would be a subtrope specifically dealing with its use in kids' TV shows. Oh, and the description does need to be made less self-demonstrating. Ugh.

Neoclassicism, AKA the Tinkerbell school of economics.
No objection to changing the description. We could maybe leave in one of those long pauses, but having 4 of them is just unnecessary.

I cut it down a little.

If this is specifically about pretending to interact with the audience, is it possible to throw a reference to the Fourth Wall in somewhere?grumble

Impermeable Fourth Wall? That is maybe too esoteric :)

Becky: Who are you? The Mysterious Stranger: An angel.
Huck: What's your name? The Mysterious Stranger: Satan.
Why are any of these names better than Non-Interactivity? I think it's kind-of catchy.

Also, I trimmed down the article a bit more. Now it's just 3 pauses, not including the stinger.

[up] Because "non-interactive" is a much broader term than this trope. For example, every book and CD is non-interactive.

Per request, the thread is unlocked and a blank page action crowner is hooked. I'll hit the snooze.

There should be no video game example. Those really are interactive. I think the main problem with the name is that it's ambiguous. Before I checked, I assumed it was for video games that were basically movies or story books and involved very little interaction. This is a real trope, but I don't like the name. Something like "pretend interactivity" gets the point across better.

The Wonder Project J example works.

AKA Grev
The Steamshovel Harry example doesn't, but moving it to But Thou Must spoils it.
Yes, I know, I seem bigger.

What would be the best way to fix the page?
