Does Not Illustrate: Yaoi Guys

The current picture on Yaoi Guys is a holdover from when it was the main trope for Boys' Love material. That was a long time ago. We've since revamped it to be about BL couples in non BL-works, so now the picture (from Boku No Sexual Harassment) no longer fits, 'cuz that's about as BL as it gets.

How about Yuki and Touya◊ from Cardcaptor Sakura? Cute, canon, and hopefully noncontroversial.

It's not possible to tell whether or not that's a BL series or not. Unless it's a group photo I don't think there's a real way to show "these are the two "bonus" gay guys of the series".

Well, they're a well-known couple from a well-known (non-BL) series, so I though it might help get the point across. I'll try to see if I can come up with some sort of cast shot that shows the "couple but not leads" aspect.

In the meantime, can we at least propose a motion to pull the existing image on grounds of being misleading?

Yes, please remove the current pic in the meantime. It's an Official Couple from a Boys' Love series. Totally not what the trope is...

Since it's from an actual work, could we move it to the Boys' Love Genre page, replacing the current unsourced pic?

Also, I think that an image fully demonstrating the trope to the effect of "everybody in series straight except these two" would make the image too damn cluttered - that would have to be a bunch of straight couples plus one gay one. They would all have to obviously be couples and all clearly visible despite how hella cluttered it would be.

I think it's better to just settle for an image that just illustrates the trope - any legit example of a yaoi couple would do.

I still like Yuki and Touya◊, since they're a fairly well-known example of the trope. But "no picture" would be OK too.

I'm still going for no image. Unless it's a lampshade or something. To people who don't know either series both of the images are just two men hugging romantically - they're just as good as each other in that regard... which isn't much.

And like I said, in my opinion any image that clearly shows that those are two guys and they are in love will work.

^Images do not necessarily have to explain the trope. They can be just an illustration to it. Mere illustration > no image.

Hmm... how about the twins from Ouran High School Host Club?

Here's a pic of them doing their twincest act while in a cast pic◊, showing that their yaoiness isn't the main focus of the show.

The problem is that they're not actually a couple, it's Faux Yay.

To me, it's just like replacing the current one with one the exact same, except with unexplained context.

The current one is only bad because it isn't a strict example. It aptly demonstrates that yes, those two are gay.

A picture that aptly shows "these two are gay, everybody else is not" would be perfect, picture that just shows a gay couple from a non-BL work is not perfect but still fine.

I see that, though I still disagree.

I'm fine with the Yukito and Touya pic because although you can't get the "bonus gay characters" vibe without anyone else in the picture, it's drawn in a shoujo style (hallmark of the trope), they're both Bishōnen and have a vague seme/uke vibe, and it's obviously homoerotic but also not so explicit that you don't wonder if the artist is just playing with your expectations and delivering a bit of fanservice. All of which fit the trope. Basically, more points in favour than against, from my perspective, but the first issue is a bit of a sticking point.

As for moving the current image to the Boys' Love page, I'm certain we could do better, but that's a discussion for another thread.

OK, the image currently on Boys' Love Genre has been identified as Cafe Lindbergh, which is officially BL and therefore fine and can stay. Anyone object to swapping out the current image on Yaoi Guys for Yukito and Touya, in the absence of anything better?

Bigger as in "less cropped" or bigger as in "higher resolution"? It's already 395x600 pixels, which is probably too big for the page anyway.

Higher resolution. The photobucket image is showing as 158px × 240px and rather heavily artefacted. Is it just the site at fault?

Resolution seems to be correct, but yeah, definitely heavily artifacted.

But! I dragged that image into Google Images's search bar (love that feature, btw), and found this◊. Same image, higher res, less image-shrinking artifacts.
