Isn't Sargon of Akkad some Nu Atheist guy or something? I remember someone tried starting a thread about him and it got locked after a while.

Yeah, he's one of those edgy "politically incorrect" atheists in the vein of The Amazing Atheist and Thunderf00t who bitch about feminists. He was also heavily involved in that hashtag.

What is Sargon's beef with Jim anyway?

Jim's an "SJW," I guess. Sargon and his crowd have been banging the drum about "censorship" of Japanese games in the west, so Jim Sterling calling crap on the DOA nontroversy got them mad.

Jim's raised some heckles from people due to some of the stuff he's said, like how editing isn't censorship or that one Steam Greenlight trailer he called out for having a slur in the title.

I usually refer to the more radical idiots who act like everything is sexist as being SJ Ws. Jim seems more in the middle.

But this Sargon fella sounds like a hypocrite and an idiot.

Jim's only one insofar as his politics are left of the US center-right and he disagrees with the game industry maintaining a Status Quo Is God approach to demographics (which is frankly a bad financial strategy in the long term anyway), which is all it takes to be an SJW for some idiots. His politics are actually quite mild as far as leftist games critique even goes. And Jim's not the type to be a dick to people first then come up with What Do You Mean, It's Not Political? justifications for it afterwards, nor is he a Blood Knight, the way "true" SJ Ws are.

He is. During the midst of that whole... debacle, even Totalbiscuit who was kinda-sorta-maybe on his side said in terms that he tried to make as diplomatic as possible to people of that persuasion that Sargon was a conspiracy nut.

I'm not particularly fond of Sargon myself, but I was wandering why he was throwing all this vitriol all Jim. Looking over his material, he comes across as kind of an asshole.

No one with a shred of human decency would like Sargon.

Some person did, which is why they started a thread on him.

Everyone begged to differ.

It's almost like politics is a touchy subject, or something.

Anyway, probably should drop this before it gets heated...

I've been getting into Jim's work bit by bit. I recently watched the video for the early access version of Slime Rancher and oh my fucking god I can't handle the cuteness. It helps that it, y'know, actually looks competently made.

Sargon of Akkad isn't the only one who dislikes Jim Sterling. And he's probably the mildest of his critics...

Anyway, good episode this week.

I'm actually rather sympathetic to people who want to support the Symphonia port so that Bandai will make more ports. Given how Bandai typically treats non-Japanese countries (i.e.: ignoring their existence), it's easy to think that the company would look at bad sales and say, "See?! That just proves that the Tales series is dead in the West!". Thus, the need to appease them, since bad ports is better than none at all.

But in a way, if people buy more and more bad PC ports, doesn't that reward the devs for doing a shitty job in the first place?

It's not like they need evidence that quality JRPGs sell. Valkyria Chronicles (which had a damn good port) was a huge success on Steam.

Koei being called out was a bit funny.

They deserve it for the hack job ports they made in the not so distant past, but their recent ports have been somewhat competent and that is actually a bit unnerving. Samurai Warriors 4-II isn't the most fleshed out port in the universe (button prompts are still vague iconsrather than actual buttons) but it works. 60 FPS, texture quality of the PS 4, and not having to map the goddamn gamepad when you launch it. Apparently the same holds true to the very recent release of the Arslan Musou game, and this shit is so out-of-character it is almost wrong but...I'm not complaining.

The episode wasn't a brand new angle on the whole debacle, but it didn't need to be. It was just gratifying to hear someone verbally trash stupid PC ports. It's a shame Namco Bandai fucked things up, since their other PC ports as of late haven't been disgustingly bad, but it is still good stuff.

This week's class concerns Cat Simulator as it brings us a taught tale of failure and misrepresentation.

Those flabby fleshlight innards, though. It's like he tore someone's anus and rectum out of their arse, and wields it as a trophy .

It's still depressing to know there won't be any more Final Bosman - for a good while, if not forever...
