I've decided to go back t previous episodes and take a look at what ones are important and such for those who have been on the fence/appalled at the filler up to this point, and decided to go through what's worth watching and what's not:

Character Development

Only 4 of the episodes I'd say were really really obvious filler, most of the MOTW has some form of entertainment to be had. ( and roundabouts 4 "filler" episodes is pretty much par for the course for Digimon shows.)

They are shifting into high gear. Shoutmon X7 returns next week, along with Zenjiro and Akari and Beelzebumon. And Ryouma clearly knows something, since not only was he listening in on the conversation with Metalife Kuwagamon, but he had a little smirk near the end. We still know very little about him, so now I'm starting to wonder.

If Mimi and Ruki(who I'm surprised appeared before Takato) are any indication, the old school guys have kept their original devices. As Ruki said, they are not hunters. It looks like the originals may be playing the role of a Collected Big Good. Helping out only when the Hunters get in over their heads. That seems to be the purpose behind their presence back in the Volcadramon ep, but Kiriha was a benevolent Spanner in the Works on that one.

The scary thing is, this may be implying that there's a threat bigger than what X7 can handle.

Next, I find it interesting that they weren't able to hunt Metalife Kuwagamon, Something weird was going on with him obviously. Perhaps he was not a digimon native to that world, and could not be hunted.

Also, was it just me, or did that Giant Space Flea from Nowhere seem to be specifically targeting Tagiru and Arresterdramon? Trying to eat then, and then firing that shot. Although it did lead to Superior Mode. I've bitched about the kids Spotlight stealing, but in this case I don't care. Superior Mode is slick. I can admit it. In fact, considering that Gumdramon has been under a Power Limiter this whole time, is it possible that Superior mode is his true evolution, and regular Arresterdramon was just a place holding form?

Next week, the long awaited plot. I'm really hoping they find a way to keep going with the series. Things are finally starting to get interesting.

No 78 is episode 25 if you consider Xros Wars/Evil Death Generals to be season 6 and Young Hunters to be season 7.

Ah. I was trying to remember if last weeks ep was 21 or not. Still can't believe they broke the episode 21 pattern.

That's practically tradition since the first season.

Wait, what episode 21 pattern?

No, here in Latin America, Boy Hunter is labeled as season 07, so, instead of episode 22 we have 78. weird, because we never labeled Adventure 02 in that way :P

Well that's wrong anyways as I just checked wikipedia and the episode that just aired was episode 76/22 of season 7. 78 is episode 24 of this season.

Holy mother, cannot believe that every fansub here were wrong in that way O.o

Digimon Adventure episode 21: Taichi is sent back to the real world by accident. The end of the episode makes it clear that (Hi)Kari is supposed the be the eight chosen, which is confirmed much later.

Digimon Adventure 02 episode 21: Ken's backstory is reveal, and Wormmon is reborn. He's officially one of the good guys now, though it still takes a while before he joins the team.

Digimon Tamers episode 21: Juri meets Leomon for the first time, and we also learn that she wants to be a tamer. The latter would later become the formers partner.

Digimon Frontier episode 21: Duskmon (who we later discover to be Kouchi, Kouji's twin brother} is introduced.

Digimon Savers Episdoe 21: Ikuto fights alongside Dats against the digimon invasion. He would not officially join them until later, but that was the first time he fought with them instead of against them.

Digimon Xros Wars Episode 21: Nene is freed from Darkknightmon's control (well he kind of ditched her as well. Whatever) and would later go on to become a part of Xros Heart.

The episode 21 pattern. A new member is either introduced, hinted at, or flat out joins.

Except for Young Hunters. Pattern broken. I'm shocked.

WAIT A MINUTE, if Taichi and Mimi look younger, then...... how they will explain the thing with Daisuke, also Masaru looks like pre Finale and not like the Final Episode of Savers

@Chariot: I think Handsome Rob is referring to the fact that for most Digimon seasons, episode 21 tends to be the game changing Wham Episode.

I'm guessing Taichi and Mimi were grabbed sometime post Adventure, but pre Our War Game.

Masaru is harder to place, but perhaps he was grabbed sometime before the time skip that took place in the final moments of the last Savers episode.

Now Ruki is interesting, as I have no idea where she and Takato could be in their timeline (since Drama C Ds have rendered the second movie non-canon).

It's a mystery, but we are likely not supposed to think about it.

Indeed. Though most of those could be Hindsight based wham eps.

Wonder which version of Takeru and Hikari will appear, if they appear that is.

Goddamn, I completely forgot it was Saturday...I feel so embarrassed. I just finished the episode, and it was more awesome than expected.

Even though everyone that frequents this thread has probably already seen the episode or has read the main details, I'll still keep my usual thing in spoilers.

So, the episode starts off with a golden stag beetle showing up, and naturally this is a newsworthy event that draws in a lot of bug collectors(?) to the area it was reported - this includes Tagiru (who was chilling in the woods bored before he and Gumdramon saw a bunch of tents in the distance), Hideaki, and that annoying glasses-wearing kid from Tagiru's class whose name is Kaneda. The former two quickly meet up, and after the beetle makes and appearance they decide that there's probably a digimon involved; Kaneda overhears a bit and wants to know what they're talking about, but of course Tagiru and Hideaki just run off to Digi Quartz.

They search together for a bit before splitting up; and it seems that someone is watching them. We then see Ren and company hunting a Pico Devimon, and they talk a bit about Astamon (I think he might be Ryouma's only digimon) and the same 'person' is watching them, but only Ryouma seems to notice...

The next day, a rather obsessive Kaneda confronts tagiru about what the hell he was doing, but he gets rescued by a passing Yuu and Taiki. Outside, Taiki and Yuu attempt to explain to Kaneda that Tagiru's target isn't the golden stag beetle or whatever, while Tagiru promptly books it behind his friends' backs. Kaneda chases him to the area from earlier, where Tagiru and Hideaki are meeting up to go back into Digi Quartz.

Predictably, Kaneda ends up following them. A bit of talking later, the beetle makes an appearance, and Kaneda shows off his pro-level bugcatching skills. It turns out the beetle was actually some sort of spy robot sent out by Metallife Kuwagamon. Dobermon and Arresterdramon fail to beat him, though, and he kidnaps Kaneda.

Taiki and Yuu are understandably angry. Ryouma's group appears, and say something that I don't quite understand (perhaps they wanted to regroup back in the human world?)...Taiki agrees, but Tagiru and Hideaki seem to be more keen to try and find Kaneda themselves, and Yuu ends up following at Taiki's request.

Back with Metallife and Kaneda, it seems this digimon isn't particularly hostile. He explains about the digimon hunt, but he seems to say that he can't be hunted or something...he's spotted by Yuu's Starmonz, and is quickly beaten by Arresterdramon and Tuwarmon. Tagiru apologizes to Kaneda for the trouble, and the latter seems concerned for Metallife...Tagiru tries to reassure him by completing the hunt, but for some reason it doesn't work. Metallife seems to regret it, and gives an explanation I can't quite understand (he may already have a master?) while Ryouma looks on.

From what I can tell, there's some other Hunter involved...and what seems to be some sorting of rising sun behind them turns into an energy beam which kills Metallife, to our heroes' great surprise. A loud roar and the ground begins to shake...that great face thingy shows up! it seems to be at least part of what Metallife was talking about...I think it's called something like Jaaku no Sonzai? It seems to mean 'Wicked Being' or something along those lines, assuming that I heard correctly and the online dictionary I use is accurate; it's definitely not a digimon.

Whatever it is, it makes a very high-pitched noise that hurts our heroes' ears a bit...Taiki and Ryouma's group show up, evolved partners in tow. Ryouma seems to suggest to Taiki that they should attack it? Not sure, but Taiki then has Tagiru get Kaneda out of there, and the thing attacks by shooting some weird tendrils at them. The digimon move as it attacks again, but the thing manages to tie up Tagiru and Arresterdramon. As it reels them in, Tuwarmon and the others try to attack it, only to get rebuffed.

And then Big Damn Heroes. Taichi and Masaru (both looking different due to the different artstyle, but Masaru more pronounced) show up and save Tagiru and Arresterdramon, then manage to knock down the face thing for a bit. It recovers, though, and shoots a beam at Arresterdramon - he seems to only barely hold the blast back, until Taichi and Masaru give him some encouragement. He flashes back to the various bits of partner character development he and Tagiru have had over the course of the series, and that causes the Kinkoji to appear on his tail.

Awesomeness Ensues, and Arresterdramon Superior Mode is born. He promptly explodes the shit out of the 'Wicked Being' as everyone else looks on in justified awe. Masaru congratulates him, but he and Taichi leave before they give Tagiru their names. The Watchmaker and Clockmon, who had apparently been watching from the trees, make their exit unnoticed.

Somewhere else in Digi Quartz, we see another one of the things falling, presumably to Zeke Greymon and possibly Mervamon (though she and Nene look a bit hurt). Kiriha/Nene is teased a bit, and then HOLY SHIT MIMI AND RUKI. It seems they also helped defeat the second face thing, though their partners were both in their child forms. They also have their original digivices (Mimi's is glowing green, signifying her crest-induced evolution!) and Ruki explains that they aren't actually hunters...I think she says they should go to Japan as well.

Back home, everyone is wondering what that was all about, and Taiki remembers Kiriha's parting words from the last time they met. Ryouma is lurking in the trees behind them, and is the only one to see a weird bit of color flow across a bit of ground...he is most definitely up to something, or at least knows more than he lets on.

Joke Xros is Metallife not fitting into Chibi Kamemon's helmet and shell properly because of his antlers. Preview is epic - more team ups between then main six hunters; Akari and Zenjirou return, as do Nene, Kiriha, and Beelzemon...and, of course, XROS 7!

Because the girls in question are Nene, Mimi, and Rika. And while I like Zero Two Mimi better than Adventure Mimi, Kiriha is still one lucky guy.

Holy shit, Mimi and Rika here too? Well, I could buy Rika showing up but Mimi? I guess she's considered more Bad Ass than Sora if she could make it here first.

Thank the Digital Gods for that. This potentially great thing coming out of this bad series still doesn't make everything that came before it okay, but it had better deliver in order to make the wait for it the least bit justified.
