Looking through the tropes, a LOT of character tropes are still in the main list. We should weed those out while we are at it. Solid examples from the A's:
- Action Girl should just have the "at this point, the only recurring female characters who aren't Action Girls all live in the Carpenter household and somewhere between the ages of eight and eighteen." part on the main page with everything else on the characters page.
- Affably Evil
- Amnesiac Lover
- Anti-Villain
There are others that are half character-half event (or an event associated with a particular character) that I am not so sure about, but those I am sure of.
Yu hav nat sein bod speeling unntil know. (cacke four undersandig tis)the cake is a lie!I know. But I don't want to cut them out wholesale. I want to eventually sit down and combine what's listed here with what's on the Character page. Hence wanting them in blue-font. I just don't have time right now. 8(
I'm just saying that this is a good time to go over/deal with them as well. We are already going through all the tropes and have a sandbox page to make changes to. Not that hard to add character tropes to the list of things we should be looking out for/correcting.
Yu hav nat sein bod speeling unntil know. (cacke four undersandig tis)the cake is a lie!Is there still interest in creating recap pages, or will these be superseded by the book-by-book trope pages? I don't mind creating some basic summaries if not.
Go ahead and do the re-cap pages.
Though I will say this: in the tradition of other recap pages, we should put more than a summary of each book on them. It should be highlights/important things that happen on a chapter-by-chapter basis (the Doctor Who recap does episode-by-episode). This way, someone can glance through them and say "ah, that is the order that the events occurred" or "so I should be looking in that chapter if I want to re-read that particular event/conversation."
Summary: The book pages should have "summaries" at the top of their pages, but the re-cap pages should be more detailed.
Yu hav nat sein bod speeling unntil know. (cacke four undersandig tis)the cake is a lie!If we've got whole work pages for the individual books, you might as well use Synopsis/ instead of Recap/.
Rhymes with "Protracted."OK. Since we're starting with nothing except the dead links, I'll start filling them out in a haphazard fashion—probably getting down basic summaries of each book, since we don't even have that, then fleshing them out iteratively. If anyone wants to pitch in, please do. I just want to have something there instead of a bunch of dead links in the "recap" section.
Moved to Special Efforts, since this isn't really a case for the TRS.
Waiting on a TRS slot? Finishing off one of these cleaning efforts will usually open one up.I think that there should be a page for each book, and also one for the whole series. Any trope that shows up in more than one book should just be on the series page; any trope that shows up in only one book should be on the page for that book; and character-specific tropes should be on the character page.
This needs some more cleanup. I'm looking through the trope listings, and there's several spots where examples are misplaced. Like in the Cold-Blooded Torture entry for Dead Beat, the second level bullet point is referencing stuff that happened in White Night, and there's a few others like that.
If nobody minds, I'm going to start moving the Moment, Nightmare Fuel, and those sorts of pages. You know, turn the Heartwarming. The Dresden Files into an index, move all the moments to the individual books, etc. They're already properly separated, so it shouldn't take long.
Aren't those in their own folders already? The main reason we want to move the tropes is because of how many spoilers there are if we just leave them all on one page. With each book having its own folder in the sub-pages, I don't see why we need to separate those as well. It might be easier to re-direct to the main versions of those pages than to create a ton of new ones.
Then again, this is the first time I've been interested in this sort of major re-organisation, so I don't know what has worked/not worked in the past.
Yu hav nat sein bod speeling unntil know. (cacke four undersandig tis)the cake is a lie!Well, three things.
- They weren't in folders (though that could have been changed), they were just under separate headers.
- Some things (CMOF and CMOA) were already in the format of having a separate page for every book.
- I finished doing it an hour and a half ago.
Well, I'm not going to go through the effort of changing them back.
Yu hav nat sein bod speeling unntil know. (cacke four undersandig tis)the cake is a lie!Uh, not sure this is the place to voice this, but I think I might have broken the WMG page adding a couple of theories—the folders don't work anymore, and I can't figure out why.
Oh my... it really has gotten that large.
Don't worry about it. One of the limitations of this site is that whenever a page gets too big, the folder system on that page breaks. Usually this means it is time to split the page, but in the case of a WMG page, we should just review the page and delete the ones that are repeated/not very good or well thought out.
~looks at page~ Though that might be a bit difficult in this case... there really are a lot of lose ends and bits of unexpanded on information out there.
EDIT:WMG.The Dresden Files Sandbox page created for working on the clean-up. I know I don't want to just start deleting stuff on that page "willy-nilly". This will help keep some order for the clean-up.

Yu hav nat sein bod speeling unntil know. (cacke four undersandig tis)the cake is a lie!We could move the WMG's to their individual book pages.
How? They are WMG's because they haven't occurred yet.
I guess we could move the Apocalyptic Trilogy related ones into their own page (those three should probably be their own page anyway because they will probably be one overall plot), but the others that I skimmed don't really fit with any particular book.

and are both good ideas.
We have a plagiarism problem on the pages for the individual novels. Most of the descriptions are cut-and-paste jobs from the jacket. Or the description on Amazon, or whatever. That's obviously not okay. Anyone up for fixing it?

Rhymes with "Protracted."I'll start on Cold Days.
EDIT: Cold Days done. Are all the other descriptions copied? Because with their snarky writing style, it's hard to tell if we wrote them or he did.

Okay folks! Check out the Sandbox page for the Dresden Files! The sandbox has the book listing and A and some of B separated out. Please follow the instructions! Should help us keep organized.
If y'all want to do that, I may start consolidating the Character tropes. There is a lot of overlap and redundancy to take care of.
Also, be aware both the sandbox and the attached Google Document have abundant spoilers. Tread carefully.
