Do note that this trope isn't limited to live-action. Drawn works, video games, etc. are also within its purview.

![]() This trope is about when you cast someone to play god specifically because they don't fit the typical presentation of that god. It's the same logic as affirmative action. An actor is cast as god not because they're the best person to play the part, but because their race or gender is different from the people who normally play that part.
I don't think "affirmative action" is an applicable term. This trope involves a decision made for artistic reasons, with the goal to make a statement to or impression with the audience. Affirmative action exists to enact social change. Totally different goals.

![]() I don't think Divine Race Lift would work. It's inevitable that this Trope is going to be full of examples of the Judeo-Christian God, and the Bible doesn't say anything about his race.
The trope is about media representations that subvert the most common representation (which for the Christian sky god is usually a white male human). The Bible is only one source; arguably that's an example of this.

I got the page, the rest of the wicks, the quotes page, Renamed Tropes and the FAQ discussionThe system doesn't know you right now, so no post button for you.
You need to Get Known to get one of those.
At issue:
The reason we are renaming this trope is to stop the misconception that this trope is exclusively about a god not being white and/or male.
This trope is about a deity portrayed as a different race or gender than their standard portrayal for example the Abrahamic god as a black woman or the Hindu Goddess Shiva being a white male.
This trope is NOT restricted to the Judeo-Christian God. Names must be able to cover ALL deities from ALL religions.
