Well we would have to check the inbounds to make sure they weren't pot holed or on the YMMV tab as someone complaining at something. Which I would think the large majority of them would be.
Ohh and we would have to make this trope stop being a YMMV trope so it can go on the main page since as a in character reaction trope it would no longer be YMMV.
A friend is someone you trust to help you move. A best friend is someone you trust to hide the body.We should keep the inbounds, but all current What An Idiot inbounds (and wicks) apparently refer to people's, not other characters', reactions to characters stupidity. We'd better cater to those inbounds to sending them to Idiot Ball than to a new character reaction trope.
So make What An Idiot a redirect for Idiot Ball and change the name for our new thing to Character Reaction What An Idiot?
A friend is someone you trust to help you move. A best friend is someone you trust to hide the body.Find a real trope somewhere or just cut the whole thing. We have too many audience reactions and subjective pages as is.
Modified Ura-nage, Torture RackIs it really that bad? I've been looking through the examples and it doesn't seem that bad to me.
EDIT: Wrong thread

Here's an example from Harry Potter.
You'd Think: Someone would say, "Hey! I've got an idea - let's use guns!" which would take care of Bellatrix, Yaxley, et al. Then throw a piece of dynamite at Voldemort. Sure, it might not kill him, but his body'll be gone, giving you way more time to find his Horcruxes.
Instead: Muggle offensives - and Muggles themselves, except for comedy, Voldemort's evuls, or stupidity fests - are completely ignored by the entire cast - even those with Muggle families. Guess they're not as unbiased as they'd like you to think...
However: They're schoolchildren who live in Britain. It's not like they'd just walk into an SAS base and nick a L 96 A 1 Sniper Rifle, which requires training to use effectively in any case. The Brits have a much bigger bias against firearms than Americans do. And the reason Muggles are ignored is that they tend to die horribly when faced with magic. Harry and co go out of their way to avoid getting Muggles involved, through most of DH.
Still: Not all of them are schoolchildren and there's nothing stopping them from getting guns elsewhere.
Something To Think About: If either side were to start using firearms, wouldn't the logic response from the other side be to start wearing body armor?
But: Well, respawned Voldemort maybe will use it. And with magic stealing anything, including tanks or aircraft, maybe even ICBMs is really easy. But the author preferred Medieval Stasis than Dresden Files.
The fact that this contains so many Justifying Edits, makes me question whether it should even be on the page. Not to mention the last sentence contains a blatant Take That! against the author.
And this is just one indication. Other subpages are worse.

"If you aren't him, then you apparently got your brain from the same discount retailer, so..." - FighteerNo, it shouldn't be on the page. That is a horrible example.
I'd rather think of banning these Still, However etc clauses, and to allow only You expect and instead.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanThe example posted above is just an indication, but things like that are all over the place. Even without those clauses, that entry should not be on the page, since it's not What An Idiot, but simply someone saying: 'the story would have gone better if they just grabbed a gun'.
Suggestions offered so far that I consider would fix the issue:
- Make the trope refer to in-universe reactions only.
- Move the page to Darth Wiki, or make it Just for Fun and clean up the complaining.
- Cut the page and make it a redirect to Idiot Ball.

"If you aren't him, then you apparently got your brain from the same discount retailer, so..." - FighteerCutting the page isn't an option - 570 inbounds. Redirecting it to Idiot Ball is my preferred one.
EDIT: The Darth Wiki one might work, too.

"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanExactly. Repair Dont Respond. I think the description is to blame here, asking editors to keep Justifying Edits to a minimum is effectively telling editors they are allowed to add Justifying Edits (everyone thinks their edits are absolutely necessary).
It doesn't say that anymore. I zapped it. The last thing we want to be telling people is that Justifying Edits are OK if they're kept to a minimum.

My Timing is Off can you please/in the future Zap Baby Got Back or other tropes they are talking about cutting. People are too quick to get rid of things/taking the easy way out.
Cutting is an option if there is no real trope being told. That just means five hundred and 70 inbound links are going to give people the wrong idea. Yes we have a lot of non tropes already but that's not a good thing.

Modified Ura-nage, Torture RackThe biggest issue being, while other non-tropes with a lot of exposure (ex. High Octane Nightmare Fuel) are listed as moment pages, this one is not. It occupies the space a valid trope would, while it's purely an Audience Reaction. This is not passable.

"If you aren't him, then you apparently got your brain from the same discount retailer, so..." - FighteerOkay, do we request a crowner then? 1 Cut page, 2 move to different wiki, 3 make into audience reaction, 4 merge with a real trope, 5 rewrite into a real trope. Give or take, vote?
Modified Ura-nage, Torture RackI'm generally against cutting. I dislike seeing examples go. So, I tried reading some of the examples to see if I could see any reasons to keep them. All I got was a headache. Too much of the stupidity comes from the people who wrote the examples.
I don't think the examples are worth saving. If someone feels up to it, sure, why not. Knock yourself out.
The Internet misuses, abuses, and overuses everything.I think we should.
A friend is someone you trust to help you move. A best friend is someone you trust to hide the body. It's already an Audience Reaction. Do you mean make it an in-universe reaction?
Yeah, sorry.
Modified Ura-nage, Torture RackAnd to shift the people's reactions to Idiot Ball?
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanI think the plan was make What An Idiot a redirect for Idiot Ball and change the name for our new thing to Character Reaction What An Idiot. If we decide to make the character reaction thing.
If not it would just become a redirect and I guess we nuke the examples. Well we would do that for either of these plans unless I misunderstood.
Yeah if we don't take an option that involves a general razing of the examples it will require heavy editing.

A friend is someone you trust to help you move. A best friend is someone you trust to hide the body.Along the way, are we going to axe all the Hoewever, Still and similar clauses already? There's no need for them to stay around.

Crown Description:
Currently, What An Idiot examples tend to read like Complaining About Idiot Balls You Dont Like. Moreover, the subpages are cluttered and filled with Justifying Edits. The following have been suggested as possible solutions:
Most of the current pages are just complaining. It wouldn't be a huge loss and it would let us keep inbounds.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. Dick
