I don't like fics that take characters form other works and just drop them into a Grail War.

To me that's not in the spirit of the Fate series.

Look at canon Heroic Spirits.

King Arthur was not a teenage girl, Charles Babbage was not a giant robot and Alexander the Great likely wasn't 7 feet tall.

But that's the point, legends change and permutate over time. The legends we know now don't necessarily represent what they were in their original form.

Now think about media today. Will the characters in the shows we watch be looked at in the same way 100 years from now?

I think an interestin' exercise that Fate fics can provide is how a character can be reinterpreted or misinterpreted over the course of time.

I wouldn't say you're that spot on, but there's definitely something to it.

Say, are there any good fics with a genderswapped Gilgamesh in them? Preferably ones where Gilgamesh is the only character from the Fateverse that got genderswapped (not counting the Fateverse's canonical genderswaps, i.e. Artoria and Jack the Ripper are still female)?

Considering Goku is supposed to be based on Sun Wu Kong, porting a perfectly identical Goku to his canon self is already as much if not even more of a variation on the original fictional template as Arturia is to King Arthur.

I'm fairly sure that there's nothing more deep to the historical inaccuracies in the Fate series than They Just Didn't Care, Rule of Cool, Rule of Sexy and Rule of Funny.

I mean, at this point, most historical and even mythical figures left wouldn't fit into the Servants roster without a massive power revamp anyway.

Of course they won't, but fortunately, the servant system includes an innate power balance enforcer.

It's not a 'fandom' thing. It's just a fanfic thing. It happens. It's not even uncommon for this kind of thing to happen. You'll find plentiful Harry Potter fanfic where Magic is a living being for the author's self insert to screw.

@IANCE: Sorry, but that's incredibly bad. I understand a bit of how HP's magic operates, but why would anyone want to do that!? It cheapens the fact that it's supposed to be a non-entity, like a force or something. I felt the same about the whole bit about Alaya as well. There shouldn't be a need to write that sort of thing, and using the Multiverse theory is a weak excuse for writing it as such.

Again, I apologize for my frustrations. I've gone a bit mad due to back-to-back plays of both Dark Souls and Bloodborne. Needless to say, I'm a tad peeved...

Actually, I meant to agree with you. I was just simply referring to the fact that those ideas are pretty dumb. I might've gotten us confused there for some reason. Anywho, I feel better now.

Working on the second sub-chapter of Lost Memories before Chapter 3 is complete for "Lost Memories".

I decided to start here instead of "Covert Operations". To those who don't know it, it's a Persona 4/Golden fic, but has crossovers similar to LM.

Hollow Order updated again. Caesar sacrifices himself by letting the Beast of Revelations eat him alive in order to position himself to do the most damage possible when turning Crocea Mors into a Broken Phantasm to enable Shielder and their mooks to retreat and buy a little more time for Germanicus (Caster) and Kerry to pull out what they hope will enable them to defeat Mother Harlot. (and ROMA Alter)

And you just know that when Mother Harlot actually gets released, it'll be Nero and as such completely and utterly devoted to the protagonist, jossing that Mother Harlot pretty hard.
