Now all we need is the raw footage and audio from the Star Wars Holiday Special, and it will be... well, not good, but at least our ears won't be bleeding.

I'd really love it if in-universe Chewbacca had the Wookie equivalent of a British accent.

Well, in The Empire Strikes Back Notebook (the official published screenplay) it just says "Chewie barks" and stuff like that.

In The Making Of Star Wars featurette, however, George Lucas claims that Chewbacca had actual written lines, for the sake of pacing and tone, and to give the other actors something to respond to.

But in Ask Me Anything With Peter Mayhew (an online Q&A session), Mayhew says that he ad-libbed most of his spoken lines. Chewie has the final word (or growl) in ANH, and Mayhew says he said: "Thank you — Dismissed!"

So now we know.

I've been told a good number of the "officially published screenplays" are actually transcriptions. Some interns get paid a lot of money for watching the movie and writing it into a screenplay format, and they throw in some "artistic modifications" so that it feels a little different. You'll notice too that the script seems to follow the exact scene transitions. The reason is that the scripts are often subject to be rewritten throughout filming and they don't bother printing out the entire screenplay for every revision, most actors have them in a three-ring binder and a revised scene will be slipped into the best spot along with a different color paper. You can only imagine the rainbow that had to be the Lord of the Rings screenplay.

I do hope the events of Battlefront 2 find their way back into canon. That was a good game.

So apparently the elderly Rebel Trooper seen in ROTJ is Captain Rex.

Uncertain if this is an April Fool's prank or not.

I wouldn't trust it on principle.

Is he? The actor in ROTJ and his model on Rebels have fairly dark skin.

Well, like. His skin is the same color as the Rebels all around him. So I'm assuming he's white?

I was really hoping for a Mean Girls joke there.

Maybe that's why Finn was accepted fine among the Resistance, because he wasn't the first Imperial trooper to defect.

Imperial troops defected a lot in Star Wars history though, most rebel pilots in ANH were once imperial pilots or trainees.

At least in the old EU Han himself was former Imperial.

Doesn't one of the Rebel team announcers in the new Battlefront have an English accent? Fan theory has it that it's because he's an Imperial defector.

English accents are used for Coruscant. A lot of them were Imperial (since they reaped all the benefits from the suffering Rim), but it's far from a requirement.

I thought English accents were from the Core in general, unless you were from Corellia.

Also yeah, a lot of disillusioned Imperials filled out the Alliance ranks, in the old EU at least.

There were a number of Outer Rim worlds that were part of the Republic. Rodia, Mon Calamari, and a ton of others.

[up][up][up] It seems to be fairly commonplace in the New Canon as well.

For example in Lost Stars one of the two main characters defects from the Empire to the Rebel Alliance, and winds up running into someone he knew from the Imperial Academy who also defected to the Rebel Alliance completely independently of him.

That was Luke's plan as well, before everything went to hell. Biggs did it, and more recently so did Sabine and Zare Leonis.

Zare was never actually with the Empire to begin with, he was trying to find out what happened to his sister (who really should have been made into an Inquisitor instead of whatever it was they did with that plot).

[up][up][up]That's probably not uncommon because, even those they were Imperial institutions, they were the best places to study if one wanted to become a pilot or an officer.

Luke (and Biggs) planned to defect to the Rebellion the entire time? Huh. Didn't know that.
