Everything I read from Mcgregor's participation in the prequels strike me more as Awesome, Dear Boy than Money, Dear Boy, because I've read a lot of stories about how ecstatic he was to be on star wars. Like the famous adage people had to ask him to stop doing lightsaber noises with his mouth during filming.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."Is that substantiated? If so, it's the funniest thing i've heard in quite a while.
RE: Ewan McGregor
Why are we assuming that you can't do something for the money but still give it your all? That's what being a professional actor is all about after all. You do a part, and whether you love the part, hate the part, or don't care at all, you give it your all because that's what you're getting paid to do.
Something can be incredibly important to the history of a genre and still be very dull to read or watch, and a film that's fascinating because of its contributions to film making as a medium, might still be a lousy film.
Well doing it for the money means just doing it to get paid. Doing I it "for the awesome" means it's more the role itself that draws them, but they still expect to get paid. A Guy(or gal)'s gotta eat afterall.

I'm baaaaaaackYeah, according to him, that actually happened.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."I find it hard to believe Ewan phoned it in. Ill always remember the ROTS DVD commentary about how absolutely none of the final fight between Obi-Wan and Anakin was sped up or anything. The two actors just busted their asses and threw everything they had into the scene.
And it worked perfectly, IMO. Whatever passion the love scenes might have lacked, there wa a ton of raw emotion in that final duel.

I know some people complain about that scene but I still think it's one of the best moments in Star Wars history.
It's good but I still prefer "Execute Order 66". I love Ian Mc Diarmid's delivery of the line that much.
Art isn't something that magically appears and "True Art" isn't something done with complete altruistic intentions. There is always a relationship between being paid for a job and being invested in a product. Personally, I believe "Phoning it in" is evidence the person is not so good of an actor to begin with. That is different from being given mediocre writing and directing, as only a handful of actors can really rise above that.
Ewan McGregor has admitted he was not impressed with the final product (except ROTS) but he had an enjoyable time doing the movies.
Well you've got actors that don't like a part, but can act well enough that you don't notice, actors who can't do that, and actors who provide their own sound effects their enjoying it so much.
I'm baaaaaaackSorry but where are you getting that information that Ewan Mc Gregor wasn't happy with Star Wars? Every source that I have seen have indicated that he genuinely enjoyed the prequels and had a great time making them. He even would love to be part of the new movie - even in a small "hologram" type role.

Yeah, read carefully what I said. He enjoyed the process of making them and being a part of the franchise but was not impressed with the final movie. That is an attitude plenty of actors have about their work. It's not a matter of "Movie sucks, I hate it" or "Movie great, I love it" as there is an entire spectrum between quality of the movie and process of filming it.

I don't think Hayden Christensen is a bad actor, but I do think he was miscast. There are parts of Aot C and Rot S that call for dramatic intensity, and he can deliver on those, but for most of those movies the role calls for roguish charm and most of the time he can't deliver that. I think that's at least part of why Anakin comes across better in both Clone Wars series than in the films.
That said, put me in the group that says the prequels get too much hate, and outside of midichlorians none of the flaws are conceptual rather than in execution.
From what I've heard they had to do a few retakes because Mc Gregor was making light saber noises on set.

I'm baaaaaaackPulling out Sebastian Shaw's final scene in Jedi was a real dick move.
The guy's in the movie for what? Two minutes? They couldn't just let him have it?
Your momma's so dumb she thinks oral sex means talking dirty. For real. Lucas really doesn't care about other people's contributions to the franchise as long as "his vision" gets fulfilled.

I'd never heard that Ewan Mc Gregor phoned it in? Where did you hear it from? He seemed pretty well invested to me.
