So a website wanted to make a little christmas charity drive. Nothing complex just having some members donate money to buy presents for kids and give money to families in need. Then this happened. Personally I think Pay-Pal is in the wrong here for locking an account for vague reasons but others might disagree with me Here is some points about Paypal being wrong.

Paypal does this sort of thing all the freaking time, but I found this tidbit particularly amusing:

PAYPAL: I haven’t seen that PDF. And what you’re doing is not a worthy cause, it’s charity. ME: What’s the difference? PAYPAL: You can use the donate button to raise money for a sick cat, but not poor people.

They're in a nice little state of limbo where they have all the profit of a bank and none of the (lol) responsibility of one.

Furthermore, I think Guantanamo must be destroyed.

I think the reason you can help the sick cat but not poor people is that it's easier to launder money if your claim you're giving it to people. If that's not true, I have no idea why that policy should exist.

Mm. I'm not sure how to take this. On the one hand, money laundering is a big deal; on the other hand, it's kind of a dick move to not let charities do their thing.

~shrug~

They'd be better off simply trying to verify the authenticity of the charity's operations, but I grasp that PayPal probably lacks both the time and ambition to do such...

This sort of thing is why I don't use Paypal under any circumstances.

They're secure from the buyer's side, but from what I've seen, their primary means of income is refusing to give the seller the money.

"Paypal is at it again" is an example of a deceptive/inflammatory thread title. It invites the reader to go looking for a sensationalist story without giving any idea of what the story actually is. It also prejudices the reader against Paypal by implying that they are doing whatever "it" is repeatedly.

A better title might be "Paypal's policies regarding charities and money laundering". In fact, I'm changing it.
