It doesn't matter if the quote mentions that game. The picture just doesn't show the trope properly. Even when I could make out the explosion, the top picture doesn't show that the boss is beaten. Ryu is just crouching one frame, and then standing the next.

I'm on the internet. My arguments are invalid.

I'm gonna say Keep Until Better Image Suggested on this one...it's not so horrible that it needs to go immediately, but I'm sure we can do better. Even a stick figure drawing of Alice shooting Bob and Bob exploding would work.

I'm gonna vote to pull; I had to stare at the picture for like 30 seconds before I could make out the explosion, and even then it doesn't really look like the boss is exploding.

I don't consider it a good image either, I just left it there because I was already launching someone else's YKTTW and was hesitant to make changes I wasn't sure about. In hindsight I agree that the image should be pulled.

Someone able to get some screens from the original Power Rangers? It was a Once an Episode thing there.

Just thinking out loud but could use a dungeon boss from Zelda 3 maybe? They blow up something purty.

What about this from Kirby Super Star Ultra? He gets sliced in half, then just blows up. I don't know if counts as a spoiler (it's an optional final boss and an unexpected character return), but it's all I got.

If that doesn't work I could possibly find some examples from the anime. It happened to most Monsters Of The Week so I can probably get it spoiler free.

I remember how, in Bomberman Generations, every single boss in the game always explodes after being defeated (suitable, given that it's a game about bombs). The explosions are pretty clear. A 2-framer would be needed, first showing the boss beaten, and then the boss exploding as Bomberman looks away in a suitably dramatic fashion.

Still need More Dakka, and it's about time to start a real WAAAAAGH.

Here's another version of the Kirby one. The colors are brighter but I couldn't get a similar screencap of the explosion.

[up] That's not bad, but I think I'd prefer an actual explosion as opposed to whatever that is.

[up] It is an explosion. You can tell when it's animating, but I couldn't get the video to stop on anything other than this really strange looking frame.

I strongly suspect it only resembles an explosion if you have work knowledge. We're much better off with a regular explosion; that speaks to all the punters.

It's explosion-y enough for me.

If I could find a higher quality version of this frame— or alternatively of the one from post #11— would it work, or is it just a no-go on the Kirby one?

It just struck me as a good example because he's visibly split in two before the explosion.

EDIT: This?

I think that's clearer. But I suspect we can do better still. For reference:

I like that one. Also, it's reminded me that Samurai Jack was built upon this trope, they won't be all that much better than this in clarity but it's an option anyway.

I'll go grab some caps.

Perhaps something of dodongos from Ocarina Of Time:

[up] That could work. I'd forgotten about those.

[up][up] It's from the anime adaptation of Kirby. I guess I don't have enough fandoms.

[up][up] The different camera angles in those Zelda pics don't indicate that it's the same monster that was just defeated, and barely connects that it's the same area of the game.

I like the Kirby anime picture.

incidentally, I too immediately thought of the Power Rangers when I entered this topic.
