Familiar Place, Unfamiliar World

Landing beside the short blonde and his annoying pet lizard, the Freeshooter glared at the latter as he said, "As if! I'm not playin' hot potato with an ugly little thing like you!" Facing towards the confused agents, he realized how much he felt like he was at home, with the notable exception of mass destruction and chaos occurring at this very moment.

With an irritated huff, he summoned his Arrowguns that were primed and ready to fire at his command. "Well, I for one, like to know what we're dealing with, so just point us where you need us and we'll handle the rest!" A quick reminder came up as he added, "I almost forgot! We'll deal with proper introductions later." Feeling nostalgic, he concluded, "For now, my name's Xigbar! X-I-G, B-A-R. Got it memorized, dudes?"

Baxter Building, Stairwell Brawl

Glacius reeled back, observing his failure. His icy shell vaporized, turning once again into flames, intending to heat the area as much as he could.

His hand extended, he shot more beams of fire out his digits, straight at the Water Elementals and, hopefully, through them too, at the hiding Wind Elementals.

Times Square

Greed smirked as Deadpool dissolved, spitting into the pile of sand that was once a mercenary.

"Heh, well fuck you too Red Guy."

At Zeal, he simply shrugged.

"It's why I hate most of these fucks. They just get in the way for both of us."

China

"About..."

Hol wheezed as he came to a stop, the rest of his statement at the tip of his tongue.

"...freakin' time."

His gladness at being given a break was interrupted by a sound, many sounds, a resounding choir of cat's roars. Hol looked up, and then wished he didn't. Chase Young had made his appearance, and came with an army. Hol simply readied the Emperor, and his tongue clicked as he took aim.

"Just one thing after another..."

But as he was about to resume sniper duty, something else caught his eye. Something that was, somehow, more attention-grasping than a horde of wild cats running down a mountain side.

A blue portal, out of thin air, spitting out a midget, one of Santa's elves, a jar, an eyepatched weirdo in a black suit, and...

...the next person who came out of that portal landed on a knee, his hand giving him extra support. He was dressed entirely in white, and his limbs almost seemed to glow. He slowly stood up, not paying Envy, the creature in the jar, any mind.

"Cats? That's new. Alright, I'll roll with it."

The man stretched, and held his arms outwards. Compartments opened at the sides of his arms, betraying their prosthetic nature, and brilliant blue blades of energy came out, lighting his near surroundings. Much the same happened with his legs, the blades extending from his shins.

"Zombies are one thing, but wild animals are another. Stay sharp guys!"

Just another day at work for Leondhart Victorion.

-As the agents make their final stand, Anub'arak sees through countless eyes the feline reinforcements, the alien girl being hunted down and the remaining Overlord heading towards her, and for some reason, a vibration affecting his more minute creatures. He spreads himself into a vast living cloak, poised to devour the remaining humans in a single strike... when the vibration intensifies, opening a rip in midair, spitting out a disparate group of humans of wildly different sizes and a jar.-

Zero emerged from the portal to find himself in an unfamiliar environment. Some people he recognized emerged from the portal. But everyone else around him were not recognizable.

Before Zero could really think to ask what was going on, a swarm of Bug-like creatures appeared and threatened them.

In response, he pulled out his Z-Saber.

Headquarters

Standing above them, arguing with his master, Tatu may not have been paying the close attention he should have as Gavrill's eyes slid open, her sclera half-red with blood but still very much alive, and wide awake as they zeroed in on him with laser focus.

"Hhhh-"

The prone monster's hand shot up and grabbed the red god behind the knee, tightened and twisted, and yanked him off his feet and down into Gavrill's welcoming arms: one wrapped around him and crushed him tight against her, the other drew back in a fist and slammed into Tatu's mouth over and over, mangling his jaw and sending teeth skittering across the floor.

"-hhhrrrrr-"

The sword lay to one side, completely forgotten by this point. Using it was the last thing on her mind, insofar as Gavrill's mind was involved in anything she was doing at this point. She grabbed the back of Tatu's head and pulled it close, pressing her face against his neck. For just one moment it looked as if she was kissing him... until she threw her head back, her teeth locked around his throat, tearing it from his neck and drenching them both in god's blood.

"-rrrrRRRRAAAAAAAAARRRGGGGHHHH!"

She gave an earth-shaking roar of raw animal fury, flinging him aside like a ragdoll, before emitting a pained groan and rolling onto the floor, injured but alive.

Tira-Overlord Tower

Tira broke through the window and into the room, glass shattering everywhere as she rolled to a stop and rose to her feet in a single motion.

Gavy! I'm here to....

She stopped as she saw Gavrill, Loki, and Tatu all frozen in place. Scratching her head, she approched Gavrill, waving her hand in front of her face.

Gavy? Can you hear me? Hello? She then knocked on Gavrill's head lightly, as if that would do anything. Then she shrugged. Ah well. Guess I'll get to kill him then. Sorry Gavy! She walked over and picked up a sword lying on the floor, which she assumed was Loki's god killing sword. Then she walked over to stand in front of the dark god Tatu.

I didn't think it was gonna be this easy. Kinda disappointing, but oh well. I'll get over it.

It's time for this nonsense to end. Goodbye, Tatu. And thank you. When I feed your soul to Soul Edge, I'll become unstoppable. In the end, you will end up just another tool for me to use. With that said, Tira swung the god killing sword, aiming to decapitate Tatu at the same exact time as Gavrill was attempting to rip Tatu's head off elsewhere.

Johnny - Chinese Democracy

"Man, I fuckin' hate bugs."

That was all Johnny said before he got to his feet and stabbed his rapier into the swarming mass of bugs.

Normally, that would have done sweet fuck all to a swarming mass of bugs, but thankfully the rapier was magically electrified. Thus as he slashed it through the mass, it acted as a giant-ass bug zapper.

China

"Very well," Chase stated with a nod, staring at the new events unfolding below. "I still have a few... surprises left in store for our unwanted guests. Speaking of which, would you like to see a magic trick?"

And then he snapped his fingers.

"I'll take care of this."

A bandaged hand reached out to pick up the jar where Envy resided from the snow, and soon the homunculus would find himself being stared at by two eyes, red like blood. However, it only lasted for a few seconds, for there were more interesting things going on around.

Lune glanced at the scenery around her, and what she saw... thoroughly confused her. There were soldiers, there were bugs, there were jungle cats, a kid with tentacles floating overhead... and also a mounting that had a large hole shaped in the form of a beast's mouth. An imposing being appeared in front of them and immediately threatened them, and behind him, the army of jungle cats... huh?

The army of jungle cats had at some point been replaced by an army of humans wearing some old-fashioned armor and wielding equally old-fashioned weapons. Ancient weapons, actually. It didn't matter either way, because her business wasn't really with them, or with the cockroach lord, or the floating tentacle kid. She was after one person, and only one person. And the sooner they found that person, the sooner the whole ordeal would be over and the sooner she'd be away from that disgusting group of people she was stuck with.

Let the others deal with the insects. She'd go straight for the big game.

"Here," she called, picking up a bottle from her bag and tossing it to the first SHIELD grunt she spotted. "If someone fucks up, open the lid and aim at the enemy, and the bottle will do the rest. And don't even think about dropping it."

Seeing that Johnny was already attacking the mass of bugs, she promptly took off, flying straight up for a handful of seconds, and then heading straight towards Chase's lair with Envy's jar still in her hand, leaving the rest of the Champions, Seekers and SHIELD to deal with the charging warriors by themselves. However, a few of the archers in the back of the army noticed this and immediately stopped the charge, preparing themselves to try to shoot her down with arrows.

Urza - Kahndaq

Observing Icarax's entry into the battle with Dio with satisfaction, Urza continued concentrating on keeping that enemy on the defensive. All he needed was a moment of weakness to end this fight. As for Amon...he sent a series of quick mental commands to his artifacts, modifying their instructions.

Two scorpions moved in, and their broad pincers reached out for the ravening incarnation of Carnage and snapped shut with a scything motion that could shear through half an inch of Phyrexian armor plating in seconds. The twin rotary guns on each now spun up with a slight whine of machinery and opened fire, spitting a high-velocity fletchette storm. As a final touch, through the pincers' metal, blue-white sparks crackled and a powerful electric current stood ready to course through their target, if they had connected, of course.

Jack - China

Jack exited this latest portal with the same unhurried walk that was his usual way of travel. That lasted about as long as it took for him to observe what lay on the other side. A great battle, two sides, and there were humans on one of them, soldiers by their look. Which side to choose? There was never any way of knowing which side was right in a war, if any ever was. In such a case, all he could do was aid his fellow humans. Whatever they may have done, they did not deserve slaughter at the hands of the biting insects and panther warriors. He could do nothing against the swarm, but against the great cats, he could stand. His sword hissed quietly from its sheath and then he was gone, sprinting across the snowy ground towards the besieged human soldiers. If he was quick, he might be able to get between them and their attackers, at least those of a feline persuasion. Then they would see the power of righteousness.

Baxter Building - Level 9

Haures' red claws missed Sokka by a hair's breadth, and the smoking holes they left as they hit the floor instead showed what fate the young man had managed to postpone. But he wouldn't have another chance, because Haures was already preparing the next attack-

"Halt, Haures."

The Summon hesitated, but followed orders. For the time he was summoned, he was bound to Menardi's commands, and to him it was the same whether the manchild lived or died.

"Explain yourself, Seeker. You have but one chance to convince me, or you will return to being Haures' chew toy. I suggest you speak quickly, for I am not extending this grace to your friends."

Baxter Building - Stairwell

Indeed, in the stairwell, the blizzard continued to rage unabated as Sokka attempted to bluff Menardi. However, this was soon to change. Glacius' heatwave was quite effective in raising the general temperature, and the wind elementals had to slow down their winds in order to not let the fire go out of control. The blizzard had been entirely negated, and without the freezing winds, the temperature was slowly returning to normal.

In the opening that followed, Glacius' lances of fire cuth through the freezing air like sunshine through morning fog. A pair of water elementals in their icy shapes were immediately reduced to clouds of fog, the lifeforce keeping them operational shattered, and the wind elementals that had taken cover behind them met the same fate. Only a handful of water elementals remained, and even fewer wind elementals.

But the elementals knew no fear, no hesitation. Even as their numbers were cut, the survivors adapted and changed their tactics accordingly. They would fight to the very end, with whatever means they had at hand. And so, the water elementals reached for the very essence of their defeated brethren, shaping and manipulating the vapour that was in the air. A vortex of bubbles, a veritable maelstrom of frothing water, descended upon Glacius, blocking off his blasts of fire and threatening to devour him and those close to him in the dynamic deluge.

Meanwhile, the wind elementals abandoned their unreliable cover, rather seeking the freedom of the open air before the certain death of Glacius' lances of fire. From their position up above, they sought out the rows upon rows of icicles that had formed on the walls and steps, cutting the ice missiles free with their razor-sharp blades and sending them cascading down on the other Seekers. Not satisfied with this, however, they mixed their own near-invisible weaponry in with the barrage, sending off Jupiter throwing knives and astral stars of celestial force. There was no time for conserving Psynergy; they had to finish off the intruders before they managed to turn the entire situation around.

Teridax

Slowly, Teridax lowered his hand. The gesture was futile, and all pretense of peaceful war was cast aside with the downward droop of his arm. The Alter would see him now, adorned in some cloth like material. It's sheen was like glass polished with oil, a vibrant black that rejected the sun's rays and spat them out in dizzying rainbow circles. It cast no shadows upon the earth below; floating there instead, like a misplaced shadow, an accidental smudge on the canvas of the world. A voice issued from it, deeper and smoother than what the Alter fancied.

"Be no hasty to lay judgement upon another. For as you judge so you..."

At that exact moment, the supermarket exploded. The dust cloud that marked it's death bloomed into the air, casting a shadow over the central hub of Saranac town. The sound of it traveled slower, the air being a lazy messenger; but eventually the boom came, and washed over Teridax like a thousand icy waves. If this was his parade, it was hailing. Slowly, like molasses crawling through a leak in the jar, fear began to bleed through the air. It came in little puffs, like Teridax was somehow still desperately fighting for control. But like a wounded animal in the jaws of a croc, he was to bled to death. Fear came dribbling out in a constant stream, coloring the psychic air that both of the Makuta's breathed.

"Damn you."

The facade was breaking. All the pomp and self assurance dissolving like chocolate in a bowl- an egg that would break under the iron heel of superiority. Teridax felt this; and felt upon his heart the heavy sole of failure.

"Damn you!"

The Makuta quailed. His victory gone. For a moment he lingered, his gaze drifting over to the burning supermarket. The Seekers had won and his chips were on the table. Suddenly he turned, a puppy struck with the spiteful boot; and fled. Down he flew; down, down, down to his base. Mira was still a little way off he saw, but that did not matter. His need for survival dictated he place something in between him and his dastardly copy from another world. Into the base he flew, his haste tearing a hole in the ceiling. The ground opened up to receive him, the metal parting like the seas of old.

Saranac

A strange thing happened when the supermarket went up in flames. The seekers, like any true action hero, would only realise after a count of a few seconds. There was silence. As the ash settled, the absence of gunfire settled with it. And from that moment forward, not a single shot was fired. Like cut puppets the civilians lurched to a stop, their forms frozen. Maria, Zuko, Iroh and Chaika would find themselves walking down streets full of living statues, suspended in thought and gesture by a sudden loss of purpose. Guns pointed aimlessly at the pork marked walls, knives dangled useless from motionless fingered.

Someone coughed.

The spell broke and the crowd drew breath as one.

"What..."

How come...

"Why am I holding a gun?"

Guns clattered to the ground, Axes and knives hitting the floor like unwanted jewelry.

"What's going on?"

"My son, have you seen my son?"

"I'm bleeding!, I'm bleeding!"

"Dear God I think he's dead."

"The hell happened?"

Then, as quickly as the paralysis broke, the streets descended into chaos. Men shouted, women screamed, children bled- like the little girl Zuko had met earlier. She sat there, a red puddle under her feet. She would never get up. Again.

Fletcher:

The image of Teridax flickered, like something sent through a bad line. Yet static filled as he was, the smile upon his face was still evident. It was the kind of shy smile a stalker would give when talking to his crush; the kind serial killers gave when they were reeling in another kill. It was a sick smile, unique in it's shyness.

"One day I will travel the multiverse again Fletcher Renn. Maybe tomorrow, maybe after ten thousand years. But I will. No prison lasts forever and no seal is unbreakable. No earth will keep me, no universe will contain me. One day, I will travel the multiverse again. And when I do, I will pay you a visit; be it when you're old, or when you're young. Maybe you'll have children by then- wouldn't that be fun? I've spoken long enough. Goodbye Fletcher, see you round."

With that the phantom faded, blowing away like cigarette smoke. It left Fletcher all alone in the alleyway, bat in hand. The civilians had dispersed, some to lick their wounds, some to mourn their dead. Snow drifted lazily to the ground, icing the edges of the streets in a dirty brown mush. A steady dripping sound echoed down the narrow alleyway as melted snow dribbled off the tin roofs onto the cobblestone below.

Suddenly, without sound, sight or smell, a figure all in white exploded out of the window next to Fletcher. A steel fist, clenched like the hand of God, whistled through the air towards the teleporter's face.

It was Teridax's Winter Soldier.

China

Absolute, utter chaos. New arrivals on all sides. A total, lawless melee.

Something needed to be done.

Riesbyfe drove lance and shield into foe after foe as she pushed her way through insects and undead, towards Hol Horse. As it stood, the feckless cowboy was Plan A. If it had been the time or place for it, the knight captain might have shivered a little.

With one final forwards lung, Riesbyfe made it to Hol's position. She bent over, leaning close to him.

"Hey!" She said, voice low and sharp, "the generator is still within your teleport range, right? Grab the most destructive weapon you can get your hands on, get over there, destroy it, get back. Now, while the Overlords are distracted by the new arrivals."

Then she stood back up, straighter than before.

"Seekers, SHIELD!" She bellowed, "If you can still fight, if you can pick yourself off the ground, we're going all out! Hold nothing back! We will not, cannot, allow this to fail! If you're too wounded to fight, take cover and keep yourself alive."

She turned to the hole in reality that had opened up, which, frankly, probably should have been more surprising and distracting than it actually was. Maybe she was just getting used to this. After one bizarre adventure after another, there was only so much that could surprise her.

"New guys! Hope you're on our side. Which, if you don't like the idea of letting the world go straight to hell, you are. Or close enough. Either way - help us, or get out of the way. No third option."

Saranac Lake

Once upon a time, the lakes of Saranac were natural formations. Fish swam, people rowed and reeds grew; and now, while the reeds stubbornly persisted, the former two had long since evacuated. The Lakes themselves, while at a glance seemed normal, were now something else entirely. The ground rumbled in a poor imitation of an earthquake; the earth growled like a wounded animal. The facade of the lake began to slip. The waters boiled, writhing in agitation as if the very idea of staying in the lake was offensive. Then the lake began to drain, the water slipping away to be stored in vast underground vats. Mud that had not seen the sun in many a year now caked and cracked under the afternoon glare. Then for a moment the torturous rumbling ceased; a few fish fumbled feebly in the sludge.

Suddenly the earth heaved and there opened up in the ground a great fissure. Smoke, black as the night, poured out of the wound like blood; and with it, came the locusts of doom. Great angular ships rose up out of the gloom, gigantic monoliths with oily smooth sides, lit from beneath with an ethereal blue light. Out they came, titans emerging from their prison. Out they came, in pairs at first, but increasing in number as the crack in the ground widened. But they were not alone; around them swarmed dozens of smaller, lighter, human aircraft- like bees around a nest. A dull hum filled the Saranac air, rattling the window panes and shaking the trees. It was like a great cloud, a storm on the horizon.

The ships lingered in the air for but a moment, then on some unseen command, they took off as one into the sky and were quickly obscured by the clouds.

China

If the Crypt lord thought his forces thought his forces sufficient for the task at hand, he might have been forgiven for his folly. The Seeker response was desperate and the champions were slow to the uptake. There had been no counter attack, no heroic charge, no battle cry, no victory inducing speech. Instead, the champions had found themselves fighting tooth and claw with an army drawn straight from the nearest horror novel. Bugs and felines, an unlikely duo, united in duty against a rag-tag team of the best killers the multiverse had to offer. It was a very one-sided affair, but both parties were eager to prolong the action. That is, until a man dressed in a stiff looking military uniform stepped out of the breach.

A gloved hand was raised, the thumb and middle finger pressed together with intent to kill. The gesture lingered for a split second, displaying to all the world the power of a well gloved right hand. Then, like the clock of doom striking midnight, the two fingers slipped past each other, the fabric between producing a hushed snapping sound- innocuous, and completely harmless.

Then the world burned. Fire blossomed red and vary degrees of orange all around the seekers as the air around them simultaneously combusted. The explosion flowed like a river, the fire like a mighty stream, engulfing the grotesque army that surrounded them. Cat and bug burned alike in the flames and the stench that came from their deaths rose to the heavens. But the fire did not stop; it burned on, it burned until the bugs that had dared to raise their spikes against the seekers were ash; it burned until Anub'arak's greeting party rested upon the ground as glowing cinders and drifting ash. And when it was all burned and done, the man walked forward, his black coots crunching over the charred earth.

Colonel Roy Mustang of the State Alchemists met the gaze of Captain Switzerland, a wiry smile playing at the edge of his mouth.

"And just when I thought I'd seen it all."

Zeal, Times Square

"They do, don't they," Zeal said, turning to the current battle in Los Angeles. "Tatu should have killed Loki and Gavrill by now."

Battle in China

"KIKOSHO!!!" Chun-Li yelled as she fired a powerful energy blast at the oncoming hoard of cats. From his vantage point, Chase would instantly know that this woman was Chinese... A Chinese warrior of another world. Chun-Li walked over to Riesbyfe.

"We have many things to discuss, but after we've secured this battle... at least, if you are the Seekers of Sifuri," Chun-Li looked at the army of cats, again. "Tatu's Forces, I assume?"

"Alakazam! Psychic, now!" Sabrina yelled to her Alakazam as he blasted more of the oncoming hoard of cats.

Meanwhile, B.B. Hood continued shooting the oncoming hoard of cats, before noticing that they had gained more members. "We have back up?"

It was then that Roy Mustang set fire to the huge army of bugs.

"We have back up," B.B. Hood concluded after that particular attack.

Maria, Saranac

Well, they were able to destroy the generator at least. It appeared that Teridax was leaving the battle via a giant ship though, and she could not really do anything about it. However, it did seem some military forces, either Tesseract's or Vaas's were trying to fire on her. Maria merely teleported from rooftop to rooftop, trying to get the military force to waste their bullets and get closer to them while staying on the rooftops. She was also keeping an eye on them in case they threaten either the other Seekers or the civilians who were freed from Teridax for now and were currently panicking.

Baxter's Building

Whatever story Sokka was about to cook up, it didn't compare to what followed. The wave of red flew over them, and the swordsman drew in a sharp breath, instantly looking into Menardi's eyes. "You felt that, didn't you?" He said. "I felt that. That is what I was talking about. And if you don't let us through- if you don't stop attacking my friends- you're gonna be next."

No, that wasn't enough. He had to make Menardi want to believe him. "He needs you right now. We should be the least of your worries." Sokka raised his hand, his claws sliding back into his wrists. "All you need to know is... that wasn't us. We didn't know that... that it could even be done. We're not the true enemy."

China

"YES, MA'AM!" The SHIELD soldiers yelled, mounting an all-out attack against Chase and Anub'arak's forces. Now, they had found that the bugs didn't exactly like fire- which made the flamethrower wielders have a heck of a time as they showered the area with whatever flames they could conjure up. Fire that was soon joined by Colonel Mustang's own explosions.

"Took you long enough, Bastard!" Edward yelled over the rubble, brushing the snow away with his foot before clapping his hands and touching the ground, transmuting thick cages out of the rocky floor meant to entrap the larger bugs.

"Screw you too you little— GAAAH!" Envy yelled as he braced for impact, just as Edward kicked him back, away from the mess and into a pile of snow that would surely hold him back (and, as an added bonus, shut him up for a while). "Hey!" He snapped at Lune, glaring right back at her. "Open me up, bitch!"

"Geez," A black parka wearing man spoke from behind Lune, loading a clip into his pistol. "Phrasing much?" Sterling Archer asked, looking around with unbound glee. "Hold on, are we still doing phrasing? Or did we drop that in the last portal we went through?" The smooth secret agent suddenly shivers, as the cold winter sky turns red. "... is it Mother Nature's time of the month?"

Headquarters

There's a single moment, a frame of a film, where Tatu's eyes widen, and for that brief moment, true human fear can be seen on his eyes. Outside, Tira's sword doesn't even hit its target- in an instant, a flash of red light consumes Tatu's throat, as pieces of his skin and body start to disappear, leaving behind nothing more but gaping maws and growing pools of blood. The mad woman is the sole witness as Tatu, still completely frozen (like everyone else in this room) is seemingly consumed by the air itself, his body growing weaker and weaker as invisible blows land with powerful echoes.

Eventually, the scene resumes, as if someone had accidentally cut out an entire scene, and the people in the Headquarters start moving again. Gavrill now stands over a frozen Tatu, bits of his flesh hanging from her teeth. Loki stands idly by, unsure of what to say, unable to conjure even the weakest witty remark to lighten up the situation. The god tries to get back on his feet, crawling to where the television had been seconds ago, raising a hand to a master that had long left him behind.

"How... how could you kill me?"    He asked, weakly, foolishly trying to cover the giant wound in his neck with his hands, which soon become drenched in his own innards, the pulsing red light getting slower and weaker by the second.    "I'm immortal. I'm a god. I can't die."    Tatu repeated, a child assuring to himself that the monsters in the closet were nothing but clothing, a soldier frozen with fear trying to pull his own guts back into his body.    "Oh God. I'm gonna die."    His body slumps to the side, splashing some blood around, as the light fades from his body.    "I can't die. I had so much to do."

The former god's head hits the floor, his body incapable of moving, but he still breathes. Eyes fill with a prelude to tears, just as his own body crumples, all life withering away from every skin and muscle, an once strong flesh turning into the decrepit corpse you'd see in a museum.    "Is that... you?"    He mutters, a smile tugging at the corner of his lips, mouthing the word 'uami'.    "I thought you were them. I thought you were her. But you were never there, were you?"    He whispers something no one will ever know. He looks into Gavrill's eyes, incapable of forming even the simplest of reactions.    "I don't want to die,"    he cries.    "I don't want to"

The red skies around New York falter for a moment, a sign of another defeated generator. But suddenly, they change. Their color remains the same- blood red- but their viscosity is different. No longer is it a tinted window covering up the true sky. Now, it's as if the moon itself was dripping blood, as if every star had been wrenched out of its life. A tiny whisper reaches Gavrill's ear...

i'll see you all soon, gavvy wavvy

A wave spreads across the planet, taking the red skies with it. All across that pitiful sphere, comatose patients let out their last sigh, diseases spread throughout the innards of helpless children, cancerous mold sprouts inside every single piece of edible food, plants wither and die within instants as trees fall to the ground, smashing animals along the way, as if the flora and the fauna had entered into a pact, one meant to keep them from seeing whatever was coming towards them. And at the same time, every Overlord, every Seeker feels it within their own bones (but not the Champions).

Tatu's final breath is heard throughout the land. The Nomad is dead. Tatu is no more.

Kahndaq

Halfway through his flight, Amon somehow turns thinner and sharper, dodging the bullets and the pincers by deftly dancing in mid-air with inhuman accuracy. Before the gun can aim in the right direction (and essentially turn Amon into Swiss cheese), the symbiote host tries one last attack, stretching his arms forward in an attempt at stabbing right through the mekboss' chest. If it fails, then Amon will try to at least use the mekboss as a shield from Urza's own attack. One way or another, he has to escape this alive.

Saranac

The Alter didn't need to speak a word. His lesser copy's escape (followed by the sudden death of all life in the sky) was followed by a tiny smile. Someone in this universe had accomplished that which he had never managed to do. With Tatu dead, and with his copy scurrying from him, victory was waiting... begging to be dominated by him. The Alter didn't give any of the soldiers a shred of his attention, even going as far as to grab a few of them and bash their skulls without turning his face to glance at them.

When he was close enough, the Alter flew into the copy's base, fists clenched around the ego and glory that this unspoken victory had given to him. "Where are you now, child? Where have you scurried off too, like a rat learning its true place? Like a lizard afraid of the light? Show yourself..." He whispered in a sing-song tune. "Show yourseeelf..."

——

"Did we win?"

Zuko had asked this question out loud, but he wasn't sure why. Truth be told, he knew why. He wanted reassurance that victory was still at hand, that this dismaying sight in front of him wasn't confirmation that they had failed. Weren't they there to protect these civilians? To save them from the clutches of the Overlords that had taken over their lives, robbed them of their own free will? Yet... what kind of saviors were they, if victory had to come at the cost of the lives of so many?

"Did we win?!" He demanded from anyone who could listen to him, as he fell to his knees near the little girl whom he had assured not so long ago. Not even the red skies could draw his attention away from her, as he tried to take her away from the puddle of blood, drenching his own clothes in the process. His quest against his father was nothing compared to this... yet this was the kind of turmoil he'd have to deal with as Fire Lord. He had to put up a face, he had to put up a glare, he had to look strong.

But Zuko couldn't.

Sky, charging star... Oh wait, wrong series

Sky muttered when he saw that Amon missed his attack. He decided to try again and charge at Amon in order to keep him unfocused and off his balance.

Sasuke, his awesome moment getting interrupted

Sasuke was about to do his handiwork on Black Fire when he saw the incoming projectile.

Just what I need. A distraction.

He sighed and used his ninjato to intercept it while he threw four shurikens meant to hit Blackfire's head,

"Exit muna si Polgas. Ang kailangan dito ay si Dobermaxx!"

Overlord Tower

Before the villainous trio could do anything to celebrate their victory over the dead nomad, a sudden whine filled the room. With it came a portal, a circle of blazing white light bursting though the fabric of reality, swirling and shuddering with instability.

Out of it came a figure. He was ancient, millennia old and every year of it was visible on his face. He was clad in clothes of the same harsh white as his portal, and he leaned heavily on the cane he used to walk. He was tall, as tall as Tatu had been, and though they are faint his skin still holds the lines of his people.

Though they have only ever met four between the three of them, it is obvious that this man is of the same race as the Nomads.

As the portal snapped shut behind him, he made his way across the room, paying Loki, Gavrill and Tira no heed. He strode with a purpose that did not befit his wizened visage, and made his way above the now-decrepit corpse of Tatu.

"Still not too late." he murmured, more to himself than the occupants of the room.

He kneeled, and placed a hand on the mummy's head. The other dropped his cane, and dipped beneath his robes, producing a clear crystal ball.

The harsh white light flashed from under his palm, before turning dark with a red underglow. The hand clenched into a fist, keeping the darkness firmly inside, before it was pressed to the crystal ball, which filled with the black and red light.

Tira, with her experience, would notice what the figure had just done: taken Tatu's soul.

The elderly god stood slowly, and looked down on the trio. His features were not friendly, but they weren't scrunched up in rage either. Instead, there was a mixture of relief and pity that stared down upon them.

"Your actions nearly doomed us all." Said Yee, his tone stern, as if he was talking to unruly teenagers instead of a Norse God, a living weapon and an insane assassin.

Tesseract - Saranac

And almost as soon as it began, the new gunfire stopped. The figures down the road (and the six confronting Armani and Mordin) let their weapons hang around their necks, and threw their arms up in surrender.

From behind the Seekers, Tesseract emerged, his palms open and at his sides.

"You can feel it, can you not? Tatu is dead, most likely at hands of one of our own. Or potentially one of your own. Gavrill and Loki made their true allegiances clear earlier."

He stood awkwardly, in the middle of the crowd of people, looking at the Seekers around him.

"I suppose I could avenge him. But if I were to avenge every casualty of war, the world would be forfeit. If it is one of us Overlords who committed the deed, I must ask for the chance to defeat them. But if it was your Loki and Gavrill... then it was a fair kill."

"Congratulations, Seekers, you have won the day. If you wish to detain me, do so. I only ask for a chance to kill the traitor, if there was one; for me and my forces to be treated in accordance with the Geneva Conventions; a pardon for those I have pressed into my service; and for no harm to come to my daughter and my cat."
Fletcher - Also in Saranac, but not anyway with eyesight of any other Seeker or Overlord

The punch sent the blonde boy staggering to the side, but he quickly regained his footing. A grin, bordering on the manic, spread across his face. The feeling of Tatu's death came over him, but he didn't care.

He was getting what he came here for.

"Finally." Fletcher said, punctuated by a spit of blood.

Seeing no need to give up good weapons, Fletcher kept the wooden bats in hand when striking. The baseball bat in his right went on an upwards slash, aimed to bat away the Winter Faker's metal arm, while the hurley in his left made a hard jab forward, towards the assassin's white clad stomach.

Tira-Overlord Tower

Tira experienced a moment of pure, utter glee when the dark god had finally died. Finally, it was over. She was free from his control. Free to leave this pathatic planet, free to serve her new friend Gavrill in whatever way she wanted, free to....

Tira's thoughts were interrupted as another man stepped out of a portal in front of her. Her eyes went wide as she swiftly made the connection and figured out this man was another one of those things. Whatever Tatu was, this was another one of them, this much was clear. Then he reached down to Tatu's head, and....

Tira fist clenched in anger around the god killing sword she still held as Tatu's soul was suddenly taken from right in front of her. She twitched in anger before raising the sword, pointing it at the Nomad.

NO! BASTARD, HIS SOUL IS MINE!

Tira wasted no time responding, as she charged the Nomad and attempted to impale him on the god killing blade.

I'M SICK AND FUCKING TIRED OF YOU ASSHOLES INTERFERING IN MY LIFE! GIVE ME HIS SOUL NOW!, AND LEAVE, OR I'M GOING TO HUNT DOWN EVERY ONE OF YOU DAMN PEOPLE WHEN I'M DONE HERE AND SLAUGHTER YOU ALL LIKE PIGS!

Yee - Overlord Tower

The wizened scientist watched the madwoman come, and when she made to make her strike, his cane lashed out, deflecting the katana into the floor.

If he got into an actual fight with her, he had no guarantee of winning. His power was nearly gone. All he had to rely on was his supply of white, what little he could salvage from Omega's corruption. He had to end this with words, and his observance of the multiverse drew upon what he hoped would be the correct ones.

"Girl, I know not how you defeated Tatu, but I trust he had not been at his fullest when you did so. You have seen what power he has wielded, you have seen how he has neutered your god in the blade. I have been creating wonders since before he was a suckling babe."

"Strike at me once more, and I promise you that your Soul Edge is forfeit."

He was lying, Loki could probably tell, and he silently hoped that Tira would not. But hope was nothing if not acted upon.

"You cannot take Tatu's soul, for it is needed to defeat Omega, his master. Without it, Sifuri cannot be reformed." Yee spoke truthfully.

Desco - China

Desco could sense it without understanding exactly what she had sensed. But something was deeply wrong with Mr. Tatu and she had to go back. She was tasked with killing all tratiors, and she had left with him frozen along with two enemies Loki and Gavrill. If something is wrong it had to involve them. So Desco didn't bother to pay attention to what Blackfire or Chase were doing and opened up another chaos portal back to where she left Tatu. Her panic and everything of course, went straight to Schala's mind as well but she didn't worry about what Schala wanted to do for the moment and the portal she entered immediately closed behind her.

Desco - Into the thick of the plot!

She popped out as Tira raged against an unknown figure standing next to a lifeless Mr. Tatu. She couldn't sense any power within him. Was he dead? Why was that guy standing next to him while Tatu's enemies were standing next to Tira. Was Tira allied with them? Desco didn't know what to make of it and she shouted into the room, "What happened!? Desco sensed something really wrong and Mr. Tatu looks dead! Desco can't have that, he still needed to give Desco her power back and then some!" The could probably feel as Desco gathered power within her.

Zeal, Times Square

Zeal looked up to observe the blood-red sky and felt the wave of red wash over her and sink into her very bones. She looked rather surprised, and turned to look at the headquarters.

"I... Lord Tatu is dead!" Queen Zeal declared Greed as she was in utter shock, looking very uneasy at what had just happened. "Greed, stay here while I see what happened."

How could Tatu be dead? He was akin to an actual god! Not the so called gods that Loki and Amora were, but an actually multiversal god. How could Loki, Gavrill, and Tira even threaten him, let alone kill him?!

Zeal, Headquarters

Queen Zeal flew in through the same 'entrance' that Tira had made. So it is true... Tatu was dead, and... the one currently over him looked to be of Tatu's species! She noticed Desco got there first, and put her hand on the young demon.

"Desco, get my daughter and your clone, and wait outside with Greed," Zeal told the young demon. "If I need help, I shall call for him and you, okay?"

"I am Queen Zeal, a... I suppose, former general of Lord Tatu's given the current situation," Zeal admitted to Yee, ready to flee if needed as she was unsure even she could take down one of Tatu's species. "Explain and I may be merciful."

Like before, Loki could tell Queen Zeal was bluffing and unsure that she could even beat one of Tatu's species. In reality, Queen Zeal wanted to know what the heck was going on.

Maria, Sanarac

Maria felt the wave of red wash over her and sink into her very bones. And then Tesseract offered his surrender. She teleported to in front of Tesseract.

"We... accept your terms of surrender, Overlord Tesseract," Maria said to Tesseract. "Researching our enemies over the past year in preparation for the battle, you were the most benevolent leader of the Overlords."

"I cannot even fault you for serving the accursed Tatu," Maria said, spitting as she mentioned the name of the Nomad. "For all I know, you and your fellow Overlords were likely pulled from your worlds against your will and forced to serve him."

"However, something is very, very wrong," Maria said to Tesseract. "My guardian beasts have never been this ill at ease before."

The Battle in China

B.B. Hood a felt the wave of red wash over her and sink into her very bones. Both Chun-Li and Sabrina looked confused at B.B. Hood's suddenly stopping.

"Okay, that's bad... Very bad!" B.B. Hood said cryptically. She knew Tatu was dead, but wasn't that what they were aiming for? They did not even know it could be done, but someone did it. Oh God, did someone do it!

Meanwhile, Schala used Des-X to smack away the shurikens aiming for Blackfire and picked up the Tamaranean's body to carry. As she did this, she called out to Desco mentally.

Desco, we need you here! I know you are worried about Tatu... I felt it through you, but we need you here right now so we don't lose the battle! There is far too many to fight here and they are decimating our forces!

Tira-Overlord Tower

Tira suddenly jumped backward as the Nomad made his threat, grabbing Soul Edge protectively.

What? No! No you can't do that! You can't take Edgy away from me again! It's not......it's not fair! She yelled as tears started pouring out of her eyes. Why do you big meanies get to push us around? I diden't want to be here! I hate this stupid planet, I hate almost everyone else he made me work with, I hate it all! I just wanna be with my new friend Gavy! I was gonna try to use that soul to power up Soul Edge, but now I just wanna give it to Gavy as a present! Why do you get to have it, you just came here 5 minutes ago, and I was stuck here for a year! What gives you the right to have it? This Sil-pari thingy sounds stupid, why do I care about it?

China

-As a wave of fire washes over his extended swarm, Anub'arak swiftly returns to his original form, the replacement of the lost insects pushed back to a less hectic moment. His claws slam into the ground, spikes erupting upwards to snare the grouped enemies and sending a large primate into the air, but before he can close in, a discomforting feeling engulfs him. It does not seem to originate from their current foes, but from further away.-

Tatu...

-There are now too many uncertainties in this battle, save that they are outnumbered and probably leaderless. Perhaps the devourer has succeeded in her coup, though she must have had help. Wings buzzing, the crypt lord seems to sink into the ground before disappearing entirely.-

Fall back to the fortress!

Kahndaq

Whurrrh!

-The mekboss' pincer arm closes on Amon's extended body as it impacts, the force of the blow knocking him over and breaking through armor and skin.-

Gots ya now, niddy!

-The mekboss brings his gun arm down, still firing depite the lack of range, instead trying to impale the symbiote on its spikes.-

Saranac

-Iroh heads straight for his nephew, who appears close to a breakdown. Before he can act, he grabs Zuko and hugs him tightly.-

In such battles, we must content ourselves with surviving, Prince Zuko.

Baxter Building - Level 9

As the wave washed over the world, Menardi reeled backwards as if she had been hit. And she knew, with a certainty that nearly crushed her mind, that Tatu was dead. That her saviour and benefactor, her liege that she had sworn her undying loyalty to, the godlike being that had extended his hand to her in her direst hour of need and given her a freedom unlike any other, was dead. And with him, all her dreams and ambitions, her new purpose in life, were gone. There would be no deityhood for Menardi, nor any armies to command. The gifts and conquests gained with his support, all gone. Once more, Menardi had nothing.

"No..."

She shook her head, muttering to herself. Haures looked at her, confused.

"Nonono...it wasn't supposed to be like this..."

All of a sudden, all her crimes caught up with her. All the lives on her conscience, the weight of her actions crashing down on her like a stack of bricks. Actions done in the pursuit of godly power, excused by the promise of making do later. The goddess Menardi would make good what the human had sacrificed.

"I was supposed to break the chains of fate...gain the power to change the lives of those suffering..."

A tear ran down Menardi's cheek, though it was anyone's guess whether it was from sadness or frustration. But her mixed emotions soon turned to guilt. Tatu had warned her of traitors, but never had she even considered them to be capable of killing him. In Menardi's mind, he was invincible. Unconquerable. Immortal. But someone had killed him.

"I should have been there...I should have kept him safe...I should have done something..."

Menardi punched the wall, and subconsciously the Philosopher's Stone reacted. The whole building shook as if struck, dry paint falling from walls and plaster dust from the ceilings. Even the heavy vault doors groaned softly. Menardi opened her right hand and looked at the Stone, then at her left palm. She had been granted three gifts from Tatu. The first was her life. The second the unlimited power of Alchemy in the palm of her right hand. The third the lifegiving spark that she channelled through her left hand. She had owed him so much, and now there was only one way to repay him.

A look of determination was lit in Menardi's face, and with her black sleeve she dried away the tears. There would be time for tears later. With a wave of her hand, she conveyed the order to all her elementals to stand down. With a second motion, Haures was dismissed, leaving only the twisted clawmarks in the floor behind.

"...I suppose you'd prefer to kill me, and I can't say I wouldn't deserve it. But if you spare me now and let me have my vengeance on the killers of my saviour, I would add my significant powers to yours. I would even throw away all my conquests, because they were all taken for the sake of Lord Tatu, not myself."

Menardi looked at Sokka, seeking to meet his eyes...if he dared. Because her eyes were lit from within with the blaze of fury, and beyond that the spark of a madness born of despair. The dragon within had been awakened, and its rage would not be denied.

"A brief moment ago, I had everything. Now I have nothing, no purpose in life except one. To utterly destroy Lord Tatu's murderers, and see that they pay for it with an excruciating death. Tell me all you know of this true enemy, and we shall fight together. Tell me nothing, and I will seek him out myself."

Baxter Building - Stairwell

For a moment, the whole stairwell lurched, the previously sturdy steps shaking with Menardi's outburst. Then the elementals sprung into motion, halting all their attacks mere inches away from their intended targets. The frothing spiral disappeared into nothing, undone by its casters, and the airborne missiles all stopped in mid-air, caught by the invisible hands of the wind elementals. Ordered to halt by their mistress, the remaining elementals were rooted in their positions, unmoving and devoid of the hostility that they had showed only a moment past.

Johnny - China

Johnny leaped back from the fire that engulfed the swarm, the move carrying him away from the spikes that Anubarak shot from the ground.

"Fucking hell, Mustang! You nearly roasted me!"

At Chun-Li's mention of Seekers of Sifuri, Johnny perked backed up, and looked in the other group's direction. He pulled a short piece of copper wire from his pocket, and pointed it at the Seekers. Suddenly, all the Seekers in China would hear him whispering in their ears.

"Uh, hey. Sup. I'm Johnny, I'm the guy who just came out of the portal and started stabbing the swarm of bugs with a rapier." He waved at them. "Anyway, uh, we're here to find a guy named Tatu? And we'd kinda appreciate some directions. He's a... nomad? Remnant? Celestial? Yee used a lot of different words. He's a god-kinda guy, and we gotta convince him to stop working for another god-kinda guy named Omega, because Omega is gonna destroy, like, everything. All the multiverse. And Tatu is one of the five god-kinda guys that make up a super-god-kinda guy called Sifuri, which can kill Omega, and we've already convinced Nne, Tano, Moja and Mbili to do the fusion. So if you can point us towards him, that would be great. Just whisper back, that's how the spell works."
