If I wasn't a Zelda fan, I would have no clue what was going on. This image in no way illustrates the trope. It's just hands holding up the triforce. The caption doesn't help either. What do you think?

Yeah, it should be pulled.

Motion to pull

Doesn't make any sense if you aren't already familiar with it.

Also, I'm cutting the caption for pointless lolcat speech.

+1 to pull; not only do I have no idea how that's supposed to tie to the trope, the quality's horrible.

Support pull due to bad quality and unfriendliness to non-Zelda fans

Five votes to pull, no objections. Pulled.

How will we picture this?

A common source of these is April Fool's issues of popular gaming magazines.
This bit in the description sounds like a promising place to dig. Any Nintendo Power scans or whatnot?

Rhymes with "Protracted."

I can't link to the picture directly, but open the page and you'll see it.

[up] It seems like it would be easily mistaken for an image from SSBB, which does have Sonic in it.

You must defeat Shen Long to stand a chance!

If it were possible to convey that famous Electronic Gaming Monthly April Fool's gag that served as the direct inspiration for both Akuma and Gouken in Street Fighter into a picture for this site, then we'd be good to go.

Problem is, the text is hardly readable as it is.

[up] That would work for an Image Links pic, though.

I think the ideal image would be this one: [1]

Add a caption about how it "obviously" says "L is real 2401" which is "obviously" a clue to unlocking Luigi, and you have an example that everybody will get.

[up]That could work if you include a link in the caption to one of those "L is real" hoax sites

Maybe give it an on-image thought bubble like "What does this say ... 'how to unlock Luigi'?"

[up][up][up] I have absolutely no idea what is going on in that Mario pic.

The ULOZ that it's referring to is what the inscription says.

Hm. That's okay. Just okay. Is there something that's more obviously a source of video game urban legends?

I still don't get it. Having never played a 3D Mario game in my entire life, I just do. not. get it.

Having played Mario games isn't necessary. The inscription is illegible; there is an urban legend about what it actually says.

I think that is sort of weak, but maybe something like that could be stronger.

If somebody can find a more illustrative picture, that's great. But I think the Mario 64 screenshot with a good caption is probably the best we'll come up with. It's one of the most famous examples of this trope, and even, if you've never heard of it, the right caption can convey that players interpreted the blurry text as a hidden message.

"This writing under the star must be a hidden clue! I think it says 'L is real 2401'...or maybe 'I buried Paul'..."

A hidden clue! I think the inscription says, "L is real 2401". Or maybe "Paul is dead".

Looks good. I will suggest linking this article to the "L is Real" text to provide more context
