May I ask why?
Can't it be both? It was like that for a few minutes (I assume while you were switching between them) and it looked fine.
My guess is to reduce clutter. So far, I like it. It'll take a bit to adjust to the "new" way, but it's nice so far.
Woah, this'll take a little getting used to.
Put me in motion, drink the potion, use the lotion, drain the ocean, cause commotion, fake devotion, entertain a notion, be Nova ScotianProbably could use a headline
Just include both, without the links you can't open new pages from the dropbox.
Eh. Maybe I'll grow to like it, but it seems like it was much better the old way— Much easier to tell which namespace was which at a glance, and plain more noticeable in general. I suppose it does help to draw attention to alt titles, but the text is too small to draw attention to the dialogue box and I have a strong suspicion new users (and old ones who don't frequent the forums) will ignore or miss it entirely.
EDIT: Also, what said. Can't open in a new tab from a dropdowm.

They lost me. Forgot me. Made you from parts of me. If you're the One, my father's son, what am I supposed to be?I can see the logic of hiding the tearjerker, heartwarming, fanfic, et al, but I think it is a mistake to hide the links to the discussion page, YMMV, and Trivia in a menu like that. It's just going to make people forget they exist and we'll end up with YMMV and Trivia entries on the main page. Plus it might make people forget about the YMMV and Trivia tropes entirely and those sections could end up withering away.
I'd certainly change the colour of the 'Subpages' string - it seems like it's a part of the alt titles.
The Other Wiki could really use Laconic entries. Not the most noticeable thing ever, is it? Also takes a bit longer... it's certainly less cluttered but trickier. In addition to the YMMV/Trivia things, it marginalises character pages. :/
Avatar SourceChiming in with agreement that all possible subpages need to be accessible through here, whether they exist or not.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"I can see how it might be preferable this way for some people, but it's also rather less so for others. Perhaps a compromise? We can choose things like whether spoilers are hidden; I don't see why there can't be an option in our profiles for buttons vs. dropdown.
Ok I really like this new system, it actually covers all subpages instead of the ones deemed worthy of an icon.
Easy to use too.
I disagree that we need to show all possible subpages. There are some odd namespaces / subpages out there that exist because the work would monopolize the main page any other way but that doesn't mean every work needs one of those pages.

Sparkling and glittering! Jan-Ken-Pon!Marginalized character pages, unclear, oh, I don't like this one bit. Perhaps the previous way was cluttered, but it was clear what you were clicking on and it stood out.
"Oh, dear. The toad, the monkey, and the dog have all screwed up."Headline in with link to discussion.
I don't like marginalizing YMMV/Characters/Discussion, but on the other hand this is kind of nifty. I found subpages I didn't know even had their own namespaces. Looks more elegant, too.
This makes it possible to easily acsess namespaces that don't icons made for them.
I like that.
Put me in motion, drink the potion, use the lotion, drain the ocean, cause commotion, fake devotion, entertain a notion, be Nova ScotianHmm... would it be possible to have say, the buttons for the ones that have them and the dropdown menu off to the side with "...and [x] others" listing those off or something? Or do as we do with spoilers and folders and choose to show them either as a dropdown or otherwise (preferably buttons as default for the reasons I gave in this post?
They lost me. Forgot me. Made you from parts of me. If you're the One, my father's son, what am I supposed to be?I like the idea of being able to switch between them as a profile option.
It's a lot of work to maintain two separate versions of the headers. I'd rather see it condensed, with the various Awesome X icons still showing and the pull-down next to it for the other subpages. There's a certain amount of vertical space inevitably committed to the combo box anyway, right?

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Profile option switch seconded. The drop-down menu should also be made more noticeable.
Sanity? Why would I need a useless thing like that? Now posting as Motor-Runner.I'm not sure that the Awesome/Whatever icons are as important as, say, character pages. :/
Avatar SourceChiming in to support "show all pages, existing or not" (although non-existing pages could use a visual indication).
Also, IMO, Main/ should go before all possible pages.
And since we're already capitalizing the display of all available similar pages for a trope or a work, what about adding internationalized pages as well? They've been artificially separated from the English articles since, like, one year ago without any clear advancement towards a solution.

Fanfic Recs orwellianretcon'd: cutlocked for committee or for Google?I would like to point out that the Discussion entry does not link to the correct page. For instance, take Main/Tropes. It will link to Discussion/Tropes, when it's supposed to link to https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/remarks.php?trope=Main.Tropes.

The namespace buttons have gone away on purpose. Access to the subpages is now done with the drop down in the alt title bar.
