Have a Cow, whydoncha!

I am full well aware that Ziva no longer on the show is a Base Breaker in the fandom, Why take it out on someone just picking up the show?

Always the afterthought

Yeah, really, she left? That's too bad....

NCIS is a great show to watch when you are in the mood. I like to catch whatever episode happens to be on then. I mostly watch for Abby, though. She is fun.

I think avoiding base breakage was why they made Bishop as different from Ziva as possible. If it failed that's too bad and can be attributed to Fan Dumb.

Yeah, everywhere I go i see the Bishop hate, which is what I was trying to mock. I like her, and while some of her first ep's might have had her close to wesley territory (they tried to use her too much) I think they found her place in the plot now.

My family have been fans of NCIS since it spun off from JAG and followed it from episode 1 until now almost religiously. That said, my mom is ex-Navy and she loves pointing out how much of the show NCIS would never actually be involved in. I love Abby and Ducky. Not totally sold on Bishop yet but I'm still giving her a chance.

That said, I'm curious to hear the thoughts from other troopers who might be more experienced in this sort of thing than me. Do you guys think Gibb's qualifies as Lawful Neutral? I only ask because his own personal code, "The Rules," seems to trump any laws he's supposed to obey or anything else he has to do? He's an investigator sworn to uphold the law but is supremely dedicated to his own specific code and thus won't obey every law he comes across unless they don't conflict with his rules. Thoughts?

I think he qualifies for LG, but veering to Neutral Good.

Compare to Pathfinder, where its explicitly stated for Paladins that if "Good" and "Lawful" clash, Good is the choice to be made.

Following his own rules over the laws of the land is actually Chaotic, but since you can't jump from Lawful to Chaotic without taking a stop in Neutral land...

Well this explains why nobody seems to have added Gibbs to the list before. There is definitely some room for discussion here. I was thinking about it due to this quote from the page:

"An important thing to note is that Lawful Neutral characters follow their own personal vision of order and law. This order may be defined by the laws of their current location, or it might not: Lawful Neutral characters will not obey every law they ever encounter, only those that are part of or do not conflict with the code they themselves obey. They may perfectly rebel against authority if they disagree with this authority's laws, and still be Lawful."

But I could see the arguments you made there.

No Lawful Neutral can be interpreted as strict adherence to any code and note that he doesn't just follow them himself but promotes them among his team. Gibbs I consider to be Lawful Good who, usually, when forced to the choice will choose the Good. Perfect illustration was the episode where he helped Franks smuggle in women from Afghanistan. He struggled with it, he really did but in the end helped his mentor.

Which could be construed as him following the rule about not screwing over your partner. I understand the lawful good argument but how does encouraging the rules for the team move him out of lawful Neutral?

I think the issues here is that The Rules are his way of bein "good" not being a faithful code he lives by.

He uses the rules to codify what he believes, the rules don't command what he believes.

If anything, Gibbs is Lawful Evil. He's committed at least one extra-judicial homicide that we know of (the bastard who killed his first wife and only daughter) and seems to treat the more pettifogging rules of his agency with contempt. Especially the ones regarding physical harassment of his colleagues.

He just seems to work on the side of the angels.

I mentioned his fostering the rules as a counterargument because I thought someone was suggesting he was Chaotic Good.

[up]That was more a chaotic act than an evil one considering the guy was a gangster responsible for the death of his wife and kid. Plus it's one that he's been getting karmic blowback for ever since.
