Err my post started off saying "In Canada..." I thought people would know it was a berserk button of mine that the Tories were slashing benefits for veterans and disabilities for our soldiers. But in any case, even in America, are they not cutting veteran benefits to pay for operational costs as well? I remember some fuss over VA hospitals having to cut back service.
Soldiers always get shafted for the pretty toys. That was the problem with the cutbacks of the 90s.
Final Fantasy, Foreign Policy, and Bollywood. Helluva combo, that...Fucking twisted sense of neoconservative priorities.
Flag-wavers can burn.
USAF713 on his phone or iPod.DAMN THAT NEOCONSERVATIVE CLINTON!
Sex, Drugs, and RationalityHe was, really. Basically every President since the Cold War began has, if not in ideology than in action.
It's like how the Democrats are really mid-Right, not mid-Left. There is no non-neoconservative party in the US, just "kind of neocon but at least in spirit they denounce the practice" and "totally and shamelessly neocon."
I am now known as Flyboy.I think dems are more Neutral Neutral then anything else. The republicans are a bit more then Mid-Right on average.
I'm baaaaaaackWho was that British person who said our left was like England's right, and our right is Genghis Khan?
I'm a skeptical squirrelI don't know, but I like him now.
I'm baaaaaaackReminds me of a line from The Lady's Got Potential from Evita describing Peron's party: "they were slightly to the right of Atilla the Hun.."
As for presidents all being neocons since the Cold War, part of the reason for that is institutionalism and political momentum. Only a fundamental shift in reality (like the fall of the Soviet Union, say) can really change its direction, and even then it takes a few years.
Final Fantasy, Foreign Policy, and Bollywood. Helluva combo, that...Well I mean democrats are basically more right than the tories in Canada, so it's hard for anybody to call them non-conservative. I mean Obama's practices have all been clearly conservative including military action. It's only Americans that can possibly say he is left-wing.
I think we've seen a hard shift right not because of any Cold War philosophy, but relentless demagoguery. This running against the government bullshit will only end in totalitarianism. Especially since we've approached the stage where only a despot could rule these corrupt idiots.
I'm a skeptical squirrelDemocracy is to hard built into us, we'd never accept it. And neither would the Army, Navy, Air Force,Coast Gaurd or Marines. No one could take power like that here.
I'm baaaaaaackFunny, the Presidency has been slowly gathering more and more power to the point that the only real check on the office is an election. But then when the election system itself is potentially broken, its not too hard to get a despot into power.
Final Fantasy, Foreign Policy, and Bollywood. Helluva combo, that...Citation Needed. Congress has been gaining more and more power but the President in comparison to them has lost power.
Are you kidding? What citation needed? The Imperial Presidency idea is common knowledge, particularly in national security and foreign policy.

Final Fantasy, Foreign Policy, and Bollywood. Helluva combo, that...The President is an Emperor in foreign policy and military matters, and a patsy as soon as we get into domestic matters, where Congress represents tyranny by a minority: the rich, the haves, the bought and paid for, the moralizers and the dictators.
I am now known as Flyboy.Being in charge of foreign relations has ALWAYS been the president's job. Him starting wars without the approval of congress, notsomuch. That really needs to get reinged in.
I'm baaaaaaack
Exactly. I was just trying to tell him Nuclear are usually cheaper.
