The metaphor for me is more like this: following a strange man in a trench coat to a van with promise of candy, only to find out that the man is actually your grandpa picking you up to take you to a surprise birthday party at an all you can eat desert restaurant.
At first you are suspicious of it, but later find out its better than it is expected.

You know you can be very vulgar, by your own admission at that! But you can also be very sweet! AWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!
Also this movie hasnt made much money after all it seems. Im half glad and half sad, because while Im glad that it wont lead to less high budget movies getting made due to its success, I really wanted it to see succeed because it seemed really out there, original and that its just a good movie overall.
Discord: Waido X 255#1372 If you cant contact me on TV Tropes do it here.On the other hand, it has still made Dreamworks money, (62 million at the box office to a budget of 35 million, from what I could tell), so at least it isn't a Box Office Bomb. Domestically, anyway. 58 of that 62 million was made in the US/Canada.
"Lucian, don’t be afraid, we’ll make it through this."The interesting thing is that Boss Baby which is a cruddy movie was more successful than how well the Captain Underpants movie is currently doing. It's times like this that makes me wonder how the populace can have such bad taste in movies.
Who says it WON'T lead to more low-budget animated movies being made?
Any chance this could lead to an animated series if we don't end up getting a sequel?
It's good? Oh man, now I have to go see it.
... At a late viewing, where children are less likely to be. Honestly, that was a big reason I wasn't going, I didn't want to deal with kids.
Oissu! This would be great as a series!
I took my 4-year old to this. Not bad at all, and if anyone's offended by a kid guffawing at the top of their lungs in a showing, I'm not even sorry, but that was my kid. She loved it.
Reminder: Offscreen Villainy does not count towards Complete Monster. It's a kids movie (presumably) in the middle of the day, that's to be expected. No one should get mad at you for that.

Oissu! They put in Flip-O-Rama in it
I loved it
Enjoyed the movie. I saw it a week after it was released. Not only was the Flip-O-Rama awesome, but the Here We Go Again! ending is just as awesome.

My favorite part about the flip-o-rama part was when they "ripped" the page. I didn't read the Captain Underpants books (I was an adult when they came out), but I remember flipbook-style pages from other works from when I was a kid, and those suckers always got ripped. Especially if it was a copy from the library. That was a pretty funny nod to reality.
Reminder: Offscreen Villainy does not count towards Complete Monster. When they're walking on the pages, the shoeprints left behind are the same shape as the hand guides from the original books.
(Those hand guides were awful and I never used them.)
Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.I found the Flip-O-Rama scene to be a case of Reality Ensues. It also did a good job, as many fans of the book complained about how they would rip their pages attempting to do the Flip-O-Ramas.
Meh, I followed the hand guide when I was a little kid. I stopped following them now, as my hands are too big *tee-hee*.

Well, if they still use the same cheap pulp to make kids books today as they did when I was younger (I remember seeing it tons with Choose Your Own Adventure books, with how often you'd flip back and forth between pages on those), I have to imagine rips were everywhere.
If there's one thing I know abut kid lit, it's that they either go overboard with the paper stock (usually, for the really nice illustrated ones) or cheap out to an incredible extent. And Scholastic always had a habit of using the cheap stock.
Reminder: Offscreen Villainy does not count towards Complete Monster.Saw the movie online (couldn't find time for the theatre). As somebody who loved the books as a kid, the movie was everything that made the books great and more (especially in the animation department; it's amazing given the relatively low budget for a Dreamworks movie)
If the film gets a sequel, who should be the villain? I nominate either Wedgie Woman or the Cafeteria Ladies from Outer Space.

"Detecting trace amounts of mental activity. Possibly a dead weasel or a cartoon viewer"I'd like that too, but whatever they'll come up with for making either one happen if they were to do so is beyond me, since Edith's basically a composite of both of the characters which became those villains (and the hypno-ring's been broken).

There's a Halloween special on October 8.
It is getting an interactive special premiering February 11th.
Latest blog update (November 5th, 2022).That's pretty cool
Here's the trailer for season 4. It comes out July 10.
It was like my childhood tapped me on the shoulder in the grocery store and then took me out for a lovely unexpected lunch. AND it picked up the check.
This metaphor is weird but it's all that describes how pleasantly surprised I was by this movie not only existing, but being good too!
Despite my screen-name, ranting to you about One Piece is not my top priority.
