I'm pretty sure people still care about Mobile Suit Gundam
"If there is a hole then it's a man's job to thrust into it" - Ryoma from New Getter RoboIsn't there a pretty big Hatedom for modern animu in the Anime community?
These are the words that shall come from my mouth. I shall be known for speaking them.Doesn't mean they're interested in anything older than 1990.
Yeah, unwritten rule number one: follow all the unwritten procedures. - CamacanWell I mean those who consider the 60s through 80s as the Golden Age of Anime.
These are the words that shall come from my mouth. I shall be known for speaking them.80s animes don't bother me 70s or earlier however.... (It also depends on the series there are a lot of 90s stuff I don't like.) But it depends on the person.
My brother refused to watch Zeta Gundam because he didn't like the Art Style.

Sparkling and glittering! Jan-Ken-Pon!There's a portion of the mecha fandom that's obsessed with the 80s, but most people just don't seem to be aware of the older stuff
No One Has A Memory Over Twenty Years Old?
I'd guess part of this is due to these anime falling out of circulation before the internet became widely used and thus being overlooked by a lot of the fandom, or because the older art styles aren't as... shiny? as the newer series. Or something.
Well, Lupin III is one of my favorite animes.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gFmGNqji4u0I like the older series, but then I was around for some of them.
Dude, Captain Harlock. Also Ronin Warriors.

SPATULA, Supporters of Page Altering To Urgently Lead to Amelioration (supports not going through TRS for tweaks and minor improvements.)Japan doesn't split animation be country of origin.
I have always loved older anime, even though I find some of them too... cheesy (Dragon Ball, I'm looking at you). I particularly loved Slam Dunk, Sailor Moon, Yu Yu Hakusho (renamed Ghost Fighter in our country), Detective Conan, Voltes V, and Daimos.
Modern anime? They're just following this formula:
- 1. Make a story, I mean, ANY story.
- 2. Add Polygon Ceiling and Fanservice.
- 3. ????
- 4. PROFIT!!
There's too much Fanservice that has nothing to do with the plot that following through the story is pretty much a Mind Screw in itself. Might as well invoke Rule 34 and make a Porn with Plot. No, really.

I agree with you there on a lot of the new anime coming out lately.
SPATULA, Supporters of Page Altering To Urgently Lead to Amelioration (supports not going through TRS for tweaks and minor improvements.)Part of the problem, for me, is that old anime are just ugly. I am not talking about art style, the image definition is just bad if you are used to the current standard. Everything is kinda blurry in comparison.
I disagree, I feel that a lot of the older anime is much higher quality animation, more frames and such, than a lot of the crap anime out today.
It's mostly the coloring and the style thats a bit off.

SPATULA, Supporters of Page Altering To Urgently Lead to Amelioration (supports not going through TRS for tweaks and minor improvements.)^^More of a watercolor style, you mean? I feel like our aesthetics have just changed a lot over the past few decades. I mean, when Level E came out people called its art style dated. And I was like... really? That's dated? Just because it's not completely stylized?
I really liked Slam Dunk too... <3 It made me want to play basketball, but sadly I was never any good at it. I used to practice dribbling by myself in a corner of the field if we didn't get to play basketball during PE and train myself according to what I saw on that show. Ah, youth.

I didn't mean the animation, exactly. I mean the image itself. It is blurry. Nowadays, even the animes with crappiest animation (like weekly long runners) have a good definition.

Older anime were around before the Internet so less people care.
The end. Can I go home?
Always, somewhere, someone is fighting for you. As long as you remember them, you are not alone. No, you have to stay here.
I do hold that stories transcend medium, but I probably wouldn't consider watching anything from the eighties. The art styles aren't exactly appealing and in terms of story, plot device, characterisation and overall values (the make up of a show) in most cases we have moved on.
There are always exceptions that transcend their times, but it would have to be a pretty strong recommendation considering I still haven't even close to seen all the stuff from the 00's.
This applies to all media really.
"Nullius addictus iurare in verba magistri, quo me cumque rapit tempestas, deferor hospes."I'm pretty sure old everything suffers major disadvantages in popularity to current things just by being not current, and the obvious issues of being "dated", whether it be animation wise in this case or just Seinfeld is Unfunny
Actually considering the rather acerbic tone many anime fans (or maybe just the most vocal ones, who knows) take to anything new, I would find the more interesting question "No respect for Newer Anime?"
Als, I wouldn't consider the opinions of YouTubers in this...
"Nullius addictus iurare in verba magistri, quo me cumque rapit tempestas, deferor hospes."
Newer anime fans either don't show much care for anime/manga before the 90's, or they forget anime/manga existed then.
One Youtuber has based Sazae-San for its artwork, calling it lame and outdated.
Another Youtuber was not impress about and actually laughed at the fact that Astro Boy was the founder of Shounen Anime.
And then, I found out about these.

That "Top 100 Anime" list I believe was in 2006.
