Gonna give this thread a dose of painkillers, and bring it back to life. Rockstar recently posted a video on the current technology they'll be using for Max Payne 3, most notably the RAGE and Euphoria engines (which I loved in RDR, mainly because I thought watching my foes tumble over like idiots was funny).

[[youtube:/watch?v=p3KK0Z-rzlw]]

Rockstar has also released the Special Edition of Max Payne 3, which is available from now until January 15th. The bundle will include the soundtrack, a book of artwork, a bullet keychain, exclusive DLC, and a 10-inch Statue of Max himself dual-wielding a pair of pistols.

Details on the Special Edition.

Seriously, I am keyed up for this game. Binging on Max Payne 2 probably hasn't helped, either.

The only way I'm buying it is if I can play as Max with his trenchcoat for the entire game instead of just one level. Otherwise, pass.

Seeing them bring back bullet time already got me sold. Maybe we'll be having two parallel storylines ala God Father 2, one in the present, and the other about how how Max slid into his current state or something.

I hated Max Payne 1 & 2. Max Payne 3 looks really, really good.

[up]How laconic. tongue

But I have to this, this is literally the worst character design I've seen this generation. What's the point in those advanced cloth physics if your design spends 90% of the game with a design that can't take advantage of them? I thought character design couldn't get any more boring than Nathan Drake, but they actually managed to top that.

no James McCaffrey no go.

edit: Wait. IMDB and Wikipedia say McCaffrey is returning for this game. ok, I'm slightly interested now.

Yes, Mc Caffery is returning, and is even doing motion capture work for Max. Dan Houser also revealed that he was sending scripts over to Sam Lake, so as to stay consistent with the plot of Max Payne.

As for his character design, I honestly think it's a necessary change. The man's a painkiller addict and a burnout, so why not look the part?

Because between "sense" and Rule of Cool, I'll take Rule of Cool any day.

The story already has a scenario that takes place in New York, so why does it even need to move? Why can't it begin and end there instead of a silly, jarring change of scenery.

[up]At least it's consistent. This looks like Max Payne's been taped to Kane And Lynch.

I'm just sick of how every time there's a decent character design in gaming, there seems to be this intense need to make it as boring as possible.

Hey along as it stays similiar to the gameplay and spirit of previous games I'll be happy.

Yeah, Sao Paulo is a pretty nasty place, too. Comparing it to Kane & Lynch seems hardly fair since those games mainly took place in Hong Kong. Also, with the new location, I don't have to worry about playing the same levels twice over (or in Ragnarok's case, three times). Also, forgot to mention that if you preorder from any Game Stop in North America, then you also get access to the Cemetery Multiplayer level, which apparently takes place near the burial grounds of Max's wife and daughter.

How is the new look "boring?"

It seems more like the opposite of boring - a welcome change from typical video game protagonists.

He's bald, and Bald Of Awesome is a really overused trope in video game character design given how much easier it is to render. And his costume is just a short-sleave/sleeveless shirt and pants. I don't care if it's a Hawaiian shirt, because the "average guy" look is also pretty damn overused in any "modern day" game setting. At least before he had the short trenchcoat to highlight the shotdodges.

Because the redesign frustrates me on account of the original being one of my favorites and there are no other characters like that this gen, while this is just a rehash of the mentality behind Drake and Cole. Plus, I think you missed the fact that Born In 1142 actually asked. I wouldn't have posted here again at all if not for that.

There's about as much in common with Uncharted as there is with Gears Of War and Halo.

EDIT: Whoops already posted. Sorry.

But, yeah. I really like the direction the game is going in so far. The gameplay looks top-notch and the story seems to match that. Story is beginning to feel like a transition to a more neo-noir feel, leaving behind the almost solemnly classic noir feeling.

In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.
