Yeah I don't see how the girls are too good for Raku. He's not a bad guy at all.
And it's impossible for Marika and Onodera to be too good for someone.
I see that for damn near every harem series and I don't quite understand in a lot of cases. Aside from plot-mandated skull-thickness (a genre convention - you kinda have to forgive him for that), Raku seems like a reasonable enough fellow.

Pretty much. I don't think they're too good for Raku, but man, I just can't handle how spineless and indecisive he is at times. It's not his fault because of this manga's overall nature, but he is utterly tedious to watch whenever he's flustered over having to confront his feelings, particularly Onodera. Putting aside whether they'd be good as a couple, it's mind-numbing to see how little they progress even after getting so worked up over the lock or what each other feels.
God, just be honest. Screw the others, be selfish! If you have feelings for one another, and would place them and your relationship over that childhood promise, then go for it, don't just worry incessantly over it. It would be harsh for everyone else, sure, but it'd be honest, and spare them (and the audience) some suffering.
But it wouldn't be Nisekoi if they made any meaningful progress, so such a thing will never happen.

Raku is fine when he isn't near Onodera.
^ Well, he has made it pretty clear he's not interested in Marika and he's somehow failed to notice that Tsugumi and Chitoge like him. If they did, he'd probably give Tsugumi a direct rejection and get all confused around Chitoge. "oh no what is my current relationship with her i think i like her maybe but i definitely like onodera is chitoge my friend or is blah blah blah" and so on. Which is probably what'll happen.

So the whole arc led nowhere? Can't say I'm surprised.
Same can be said about the manga.
I suppose. I think it's kind of sad that even Haru has better chemistry with Raku.
Chitogemom episode! I though this one happened quite a bit later in the manga. Though I was also surprised to realize the first season never got to Paula so my memory of when things happened in the manga might be totally off.
No, the anime is definitely jumping around story points. It doesn't help most of them can be filler.
Not really, Christmas arc starts in the next volume after the play. They skipped one or two filler chapters but that's it.
Anyway, I watched the episode and it was awesome. This is still the best arc of the manga and it shows here. Also, I almost forgot ho ridiculous Chitoge's mom is.
Tsunderemom really looks a lot like Senjogahara here. And I forgot that Hana knew Chitoge owned that book before Onodera did. Ha, take that Onodera.

are the openings of the anime still needlessly melancholic?
Secret SignatureThat reminds me.
The first opening.
While I absolutely LOVE the music, I hate the visual. It's so painfully bland.
I'm a (socialist) professional writer serializing a WWII alternate history webnovel. The episode was great, very emotional, a good conclusion of the arc. They compressed some things towards the end, but that's okay, since they weren't that important anyway.
Was this the first mention of Chitoge's book?
I really love this arc, it's by far the best one in the whole series. Chitoge's mom is awesome, Raku is at his best here, there are actual emotional stakes here, and we learn few new things.
Unfortunately this is as good as it gets. Rest of the season will be nowhere near as good, especially with goddamn Haru on the horizon. I'm not even sure if I feel like following it.
The new opening is actually pretty upbeat.

So what's the problem with Haru exactly?
She's a complete bitch early on. Later, she mellows out and becomes more interesting than her sister at least, but then she's kind of superfluous.
Even during her "total bitch" period, she's still more entertaining than her sister.
Watching paint dry is more interesting than Kosaki.
Kosaki is still more interesting than her counterpart Sairenji, but that's damning with faint praise.
Then what the heck is this "Sairenji" supposed to be? A paper doll?
The To Love Ru girl, which fits because all of the comparisons between both series made over time through Nisekoi's lifespan.

Haruna Sairenji does absolutely nothing in To Love-Ru until a ways into Darkness when she's informed that the circumstances allow for a case of Marry Them All (even then, the girls in Darkness have their focus chapters pretty spread out, so it was a bit before she did anything with that). Prior to then, she had a mix of shyness and not wanting to fight her best friend over a guy.
Oh, and then she tries to take the offensive regularly, but she can't keep up with the antics and thus can't find a good point to step in.

Plus the whole "My wife that Haruna is based on is a bitch."
Assuming the To Love Ru author isn't exaggerating about that.
Kosaki really doesn't seem to be well liked around here. Is it because she keeps Raku from realizing Chitoge's feelings for him or something?
She isn't really funny and her jokes just repeat.
She's bland, unfunny, had no development since the beginning of the manga, has no chemistry with Raku and basically exists only to serve as a roadblock.
I'm honestly just indifferent towards Kosaki.
It pretty much has to be true, or they wouldn't have ended such a strong-selling series so suddenly and then moved it to their sister publication.
Haruna actually has another excuse on top of the real life stuff:
Much like the childhood promise in Nisekoi, To Love-Ru is effectively over once Rito and Haruna resolve their case of Cannot Spit It Out, since Rito's only reason for resisting the harem plan disappears.

You know, it's kind of a dick move for him to ignore the pendant. It doesn't just concern him and Onodera, it concerns three other girls.
Ha, take that Onodera. That'll teach you to get your hopes up regarding plot relevancy.
