Oh hell yes, I love Just Cause 2.

Let's hope they add in some more variety to the missions (more stuff like the main missions instead of that phone booth crap) and get better voice actors - listening to Bolo Santosi and her attempts at being seductive was painful.

Come on, I'm still playing through Just Cause 2.

[up] Actually, Bolo Santosi's voice acting is one of my favorite things about the game. We need more horribly acted characters to interact with.

I'm hoping they make the game a more refined experience, even though that's an incredibly nebulous statement.

What I mean is that initially, I loved JC 2. Massive countryside to explore, lush forests and gigantic mountains, cars that explode in great balls of fire...

and then I noticed how often I was crashing.

So I noticed how slippery every single car was, how the brakes were useless besides the handbrake, which always turned you to the right, even though you're turning the wheel a hard left. Then I realized how useless it was to try to fight the police from a car, because you couldn't fire from inside the car and trying to fire from atop the car was very risky because one turn and you've flipped over on a tree.

Then I realized that there was no way to reverse in a plane on the ground, that the plane weapons were relatively useless, that there was no yaw. And on motorcycles it was bad too! Equally bad brakes, and no way to fire behind you at all.

I found all of these flaws in very short order, and I just couldn't get past any of them...

So, I hope they fix all of that in the next game.

^You don't get in a car, silly, you buy a Helicopter and fly over everything.

Then again, I can drive land vehicles fairly competently at speed. Hell, I mastered the off-road vehicles.

[up]No, you use the parachute and grappling hook. Really, the only ground vehicle worth driving were the tanks, but it'd be ncice to upgrade the handling for everything else too.

What I hope for the next game is something less shallow, I think. It's like, after I finish the story missions, I don't feel much incentive to blow other shit up for some reason. And also, even though Panau was massive, there were hardly any interior locations.

And as a Malaysian, I honestly didn't think Bolo Santosi's accent was that off. The voice acting sounded funny, sure, but some people here really do sound like that, or worse. Here's an episode of Phua Chu Kang, if you're willing to watch something 24 minutes long, and listen to how the titular character (you'll know who he is) talks:

It's actually a Singaporean show, but it doesn't feel foreign to me at all.

^Yeah, the grappling hook and parachute are nice, but when you need to get to the other side of a mountain, you get a ride.

[up]True, that reminds me, the helicopter and jet controls in JC 2 are way better than in any Battlefield game, even 3. Very easy to move them around, and you can still manually aim your weapons at targets.

Speaking of weapons, I loved when you got your hands on a chopper that was armed.

JC 2 was a ton of fun for like, 12 hours. after that there wasn't much to do but grab a jet and ram it directly into a building that looked at you funny.

[up]that.

I tried my damndest to get 100% completion, doing a little bit every day.

I got about 60% done when I started seeing all the flaws and I sold it.

I preferred the first Just Cause to the second and hope they do a sequel more like that. With things like having the grappling hook not be a rubber band so that you can keep parachuting after a car for a long while, and being able to control vehicles from the stunt position.

I agree with Enku. Tightening up the gameplay should be their number 1 priority.

Am I the only one who actually enjoys it? I don't find it that hard to control and I'm only using a mouse and keyboard.

Its not that I didn't enjoy it. On the contrary, I think it was quite good at times. But it was very unpolished.

Minor thread hijack: I just downloaded the Just Cause 1 Demo for kicks off Steam, and to my great surprise, it actually works. I've had to pass up lots of good 3d action/adventure games in sales because they wouldn't work. Anyway, I've read it isn't very well-received, but I quite enjoyed the demo. I guess I'll wait for a sale, but I really want to play it now....does it get very repetitive?

I've played the Just Cause 2 Demo on Xbox, to be honest, I didn't think it was that much more amazing, except for the grappling hook. But I guess Demos are misleading?...

[up] Don't care about Mercenaries (Because I've never heard of it, I'm picturing an FPS?...) and we had GTAIV, wasn't that great. I really like the demo for this though, but I guess it depends how much more enjoyment the full game gives over the demo....anyone have an opinion?

^Mercenaries was another destructive sandbox game (third-person, probably) that was made by the defunct Pandemic Studios and published by EA.

Also, I never played the first game myself, so...

Well, the collectibles are marked on the map, but it's repetitive. The "liberation" missions are basically "go here, kill bunch of people, repeat two or three times, change flag". Still, can be pretty fun if you like mindless destruction (and the sense of speed from the 1st person view is something I still remember)

You also don't need to do anything to unlock the agency missions and deliveries don't cost anything but are limited to: 1 armed SUV ,1 motorcycle ,1 one armed boat and a small helicopter. The grappling hook works a bit differently: it can only attach to vehicles, it doesn't slingshot you but forces you into the parachute where you can adjust the length of the line and be dragged after moving vehicles and while parasailing(?) the line can be infinitely long while shooting it it's limited to a few hundred meters and is affected by gravity. It's also a weapon and not just a hotkey.

This is great! I'd been waiting years for a game like Just Cause 2 to come along, and it did it with great style and panache. What I'm hoping for the sequel:

  • Even more over-the-top shit and references to 1980s action movies.
  • The ability to fire weapons while in a vehicle.
  • Some slight modifications to the grappling hook, so it's even easier to do super-awesome tricks with it.
  • Maybe a Bullet Time meter?

Well, I'll get it super cheap in the Winter Sale if I can then. I really want more games like it for my Laptop. I just don't want to regret it if the Demo is pretty much as good as it gets :/ Is the world map it takes place over really big at least?
