Well let the whales take the citizenship test, if they do better than say...Tea Party Members give them their rights!
"You can reply to this Message!"Wow, they'll never realize that animals are not people.
On the one hand, as a former Hindu I'm sympathetic to the idea of animal rights.
On the other hand, it's PETA. The way they frame the issue is monumentally stupid, which since they use "the court of public opinion" would make them wrong even if they were right. Trying to frame animal captivity as a 13th Amendment issue makes it look like they're a bunch of clueless white do-gooders who see black people and whales as equal.

“Love is the eternal law whereby the universe was created and is ruled.” — St. Bernardwould it be....legally unwise to assemble a chorus, go into that courtroom and start singing "So Long and Thanks for all the Fish"?
"You can reply to this Message!"THAT was funny!
It was an honorWell, the more absurd one gets, the harder it is to take them seriously, and the closer they get to become society's laughingstock. Just hope that noone gets hurt in between.
The words above are to be read as if they are narrated by Morgan Freeman.What.
Man, just when you think PETA can't get more absurd and asinine... Hell PETA is the only group that can use naked hot chicks in their ads and STILL not win any widespread support.
Apart from the Evony guys.
The words above are to be read as if they are narrated by Morgan Freeman.I'm sure even Evony manages to rope in a few misinformed and ignorant individuals.
I stopped being surprised by PETA's shenanigans a while ago.
But seriously.

Oh, I wanna see where this goes next! Go-Go Enslavement dressed girls in front of Sea World protesting? Naked women in front of Sea World? Or perhaps, if Sea World is smart, next to the whales protesting? I mean, wouldn't that kidna sky rocket their profits? "Come to see whales, get half-naked activist for the same price!"
This is hilarious. First of all, PETA is bringing the suit in the name of the orcas. The orcas themselves are the plaintiffs. Did they ask the orcas for permission to do that?
Well, if orcas should have the same rights as human beings, then only the orcas themselves can bring the suit. Did the lawyers get a consent from the orcas before bringing this lawsuit? Did they consent to this representation or the pendency of the action? Do they have a contract with the orcas to provide them legal representation?
Suppose the orcas are property. In that case only their owners have standing to bring a suit concerning them and the suit should be dismissed.
On the other hand, suppose the orcas are people. In that case, somebody has brought a lawsuit in their name without their consent, and the suit should be dismissed.
What we obtain too cheap, we esteem too lightly.I never quite understood the PETA-hate. On the Sea World issue, I agree with them. I personally find it extremely distressing that such places exist, what to talk of the fact that there are so many people that visit them. Using laws that are about human slavery may look silly, but at least they are fighting for a just cause.
Because they are hypocrites who kill animals.
Any links? Please elaborate? (Sarcasm?)
Well, Go-Go Enslavement girls in front of Sea World isn't that much of a stretch. They might actually do that.
Fanty, PETA does euthanise animals. It's not quite for the lulz, but they've never made this a secret.
Honestly, while I may have been hearing about them from the more biased sources, PETA distresses me. It's a very sick mix of naivety and violence—akin to religious extremism, but with an even more skewed sense of perspective. Their links to Bono-style activism just makes it worse: it's hard to resist the temptation to think of these celebrities as blonde airheads lazily assembling their "hip" philosophy and ethics. I don't think even their nude photos make up for that.

The words above are to be read as if they are narrated by Morgan Freeman.Well, even if they do euthanise animals, focusing on PETA is still an Ad Hominem. Nobody seems to be talking about the issue itself.
Thats because PETA is the only one bringing it up.
Thorn@Its a Pass the Popcorn event on what next dumb thing will PETA do or advocate.
Well, I fail to see how Sea World is making whales work without pay.
Now, if PETA were arguing for better treatment of the whales at Sea World, they might have something subjectively arguable instead of objectively not happening.
If you want any of my avatars, just Pm me I'd truly appreciate any avatar of a reptile sleeping in a Nice Hat Read Elmer Kelton booksOh, if it's a sober pop philosopher discussing the possibility that this is "slavery" in a newspaper column I'll take it more seriously. To be fair, yeah, we're just (I think) rambling about PETA, not the issue itself.
Yes.

Seriously, they are making this constitutional.
