What the heel Dr P?

Here I am digging the unique taste that it has over normal colas and it drops this bomb. I signed up for IJBM (which I loathe) JUST to talk about this. Why is this still I thing in a year higher than most peoples monthly salaries? Just look at this video:

That's offensive to everybody. I have a penis just as much as the next guy but seriously, fuck Dr Pepper. I'm getting a coke.

I never was too fond of Dr Pepper, but yeah that commercial is balls-to-the-walls fucking retarded.

Looks Dr. Pepper's doctorate ain't helping him here.

Part of me wishes that video is someone's shitty idea for a parody.

This is why marketing execs shouldnt design advertisements. You get the feeling they were trying to badass up a diet drink and instead succeeded in coming off misogynistic.

Dammit Dr. Pepper, you were my favorite soda! You used to be classy, not like that douchebag Mountain Dew. SMFH.

[up]For all we know, they could have meant to make a misogynistic commercial, because they knew it would earn notoriety and piss off women, who would then drink it in defiance. Not saying that would actually work.

The sexism in the ad is just over-the-top enough that it might be Ironic, but sexism in commercials is so rampant that I'm not willing to give them the benefit of the doubt here.

Currently taking a break from the site. See my user page for more information.

See, if this was inversed, we would claim it was sexist agaisnt women for sterotyping them.

I think it's walking the thin line.

Yes that's the point. Glorifying masculinity and femininity is fine but glorifying masculinity at the expense of femininity is abhorrent. This add is just rabidly manly it's actively anti-female. Compare this to the Old Spice commercials and see why these aren't getting an Emmy any time soon.

It is? All I thought it was doing was embracing action movies.

See, this would have been a brilliant ad if it was a parody, but I just don't get that vibe from it. If they weren't being serious, they've fallen into Poe's Law.

I am now known as Flyboy.

It's not embracing action movies.

It's explicitly saying it's not for women.

Except for 4/1/2011. That day lingers in my memory like...metaphor here...I should go.

Think of the reverse. They would get in trouble with feminists also, for stereotyping women also.

Yeah, that's what makes it so offensive; not only does it enforce gender identities but it actively antagonizes the two kit's just a horrible horrible thing.

I'm really not seeing how making an ad like this would win them much favour even if it was a parody. Who would the parody be aimed at? Men? Women?

-My idea for a commercial rebuttal-

Show all manners of men and women drinking a soda and handing it off to the opposite gender.

The slideshow stops flipping onto a woman holding the can who says:
(sweetly) "We can all drink it (yelling) BECAUSE IT'S A F*CKING SODA."

I'm seeing a cool tongue-in-cheek ad that plays off the Coke "self-suing" aspect where they have the "ad exec" who came up with this idea getting beaten up and/or offed by all the other Dr Pepper employers. "Look we fired that guy, Okay?"

Let's make a TCG!
