Hmmm... index titles should really have "index" in them to avoid this kind of thing.

You see, the thing is that Just For Pun would be better for an In-Universe occurrence, and A Worldwide Punomenon for the index.

I like Punny Trope Titles. Punny Trope Index sounds like it's an index for tropes about puns, rather than a list of trope titles that are puns.

Punny Trope Names has a sightly better ring to it, I feel, but I'd be okay with anything in that vein as a new title.

In addition to a rename, what about the current name? Making it a redirect to another pun trope would solve most of the misuse.
But I think it would actually make a better name for A Worldwide Punomenon. As it's not only easier to spell, it helps fit the "everything's better with" form of the trope. "We included the pun, just for pun!"

One of the suggestions I remember from over here
was to appropriate the A Worldwide Punomenon name for a World Of Puns in the vein of World of Ham.
I think this would work well with the above suggestion.

A final bump for a stale thread? I see that Worldwide Punomenon and Incredibly Lame Pun also have TRS threads open. I'm guessing this one is closely related to those.

Renaming it Punny Tropes would eliminate misuse.

I see this used on pages and forum posts as a general pun pothole. The problem is that it's not a trope. It's an index about trope titles that are puns. The proper pun pothole is A Worldwide Punomenon, or Incredibly Lame Pun for the groan-worthy ones.
I would show misuse, but as an index, and not a proper name just glancing at the related list shows it's on loads of work pages, that clearly have no context to list this trope.
