Stay classy,Westboro then again when did they ever have any class in the first place.

I don't know Mr.Camping is a pinhead about his predictions but Westboro is just a big fat bunch of buttholes.

westboro sounds more like insane than dicks in this case. their logic makes no sense.

if everyone who isnt chosen is going to die, then either westboro is in heaven or dead.

Westboro and Camping! It's a double dose of crazy! So, any news on Camping's reaction to his failed doom day?

The church also put up a huge pole outside its Kansas headquarters to count down the end of the world in a similar style to the ball over Times Square at New Year's Eve, according to the Bennington Vale Press.

The pole displays a life-sized crucifix with an effigy of Harold Camping in drag. Its descent is scheduled for 6 p.m. local time Friday.

I stopped looking up information about Camping because I was not happy with people reacting in pure mockery and extrapolating from this one event to attack a much greater group of people.

Like Seattle Athiests group. According to a source, they planned an after-Rapture party with no other purpose than to make fun of this event.

Seattle Atheists plan to hold a “Left-Behind” party, poking fun at Christians who believe Camping’s proclamation. They plan to watch the Christian movie, “Left Behind,” starring Christian Kirk Cameron, which tells the stories of people stuck on earth after the Rapture.

“Talking over the movie is highly encouraged,” states the Seattle Atheists Web site. “Let’s do this Mystery Science Theater style. In fact if you’ve seen it before, feel free to prepare yourself with in-depth, incisive commentary on the marked changes in Kirk Cameron’s hair since ‘Growing Pains.’ We’ll have popcorn and soda and all manner of terrible things to match this terrible movie. Bring your own bananas.”

This is not amusing. These people supposedly preach "freedom from religion". I would guess that they claim you can be moral and virtuous without religion and God. I don't agree with that, but if they claim it, how about actually showing it?

This attitude they hold, gathering just to watch a movie they oppose and mock it, does not reflect morality and virtue. This isn't helping or caring for anyone. This is trolling, not very different from Westboro's attitude.

They are being "moral and virtuous" because they're gathering to do something they enjoy and doesn't hurt anyone, as opposed to picketing soldiers' funerals.

To be fair, its not like the rapture is any less ridiculous than that..given outside american christians, the idea basically doesnt eist in worldwide christianity.

and if I cant be moral and virtuous without God, guess I should go on a drunken rape spree?

Left Behind is a piece of shit. That movie deserves all of the mocking they plan to do and more.

Also, Kirk Cameron's ego is something that needs to be made fun of. Even The Kendrick Brothers (directors of Fireproof) found him a nightmare to work with.

[up][up][up]Having an attitude of a troll when there are people that lost fortunes or lives over the rapture prophecy event doesn't sound convincing to the claim that they can live morally. I don't see what they're doing as anything but deliberately being disrespectful for the sake of mockery, something that's frowned upon even on Internet sites.

Westboro Church protests many things, but usually, what it does is technically just voicing opinions and often not legally prohibited. Otherwise, we would've seen its members convicted of criminal charges by now.

I would say these people give nonreligious people (actually trying to be nice and good citizens) a bad name over stunts like this. It's the same thing that Westboro does to Christians.

Legal =/= moral. And I'm still not seeing how mocking a con artist is on quite the same level as picketing funerals of murdered teenagers.

I do not see how making fun of Camping=disrespecting the people who got hurt by the guy.

Remember, these idiots drive, fuck, and vote. Not always in that order.

Also,

  • picketing soldier funerals = mocking people who died for their country, fighting terrorists
  • mocking Camping victims = mocking gullible people.
    • It's comparable to the Darwin Awards: It's blatant intellectualism, but it's mocking people over something you think no one should do, rather than something you don't have the balls to do.

@abstractematics, If you think the Darwin Awards are just as bad, then I respect your opinion though I don't share it.*

If you laugh at the Darwin Awards and not at this, then I hereby accuse you of hypocrisy.

I'm not saying that we can stop them if they want to poke fun at something and have fun in their social gathering. But publicly advertising that they're going to be trolls looks bad. I don't see why you would want to present yourselves as cynical and purposely mischievous.

Wasn't the Isaac Newton date supposed to be "no sooner than 2060"? In that case, it could be 22060.

The Rapture, or how to invent a bullshit idea no other branch of christiaity outside the US even knows about let alone believes in.

also, am I the only one who finds it offensive how they always believe "the end is nigh" when people have believed that since the ink was dry?
