Charlies Angels has been rebooted in a new TV series. I have watched 3 episodes, and so far I like what I'm seeing. Here's why:

1. This reboot has taken on a Darker and Edgier tone compared to the series in 1976. How so? Well, the first episode starts out with three Angels named Kate Prince, Abby Sampson, and Gloria. Early on in the episode, poor Gloria gets Killed Off for Real via car bomb. Fortunately, the Angels get a replacement in the form of Eve French.

2. Alfred Gough's Word of God has stated that he is trying to avoid being campy or retro. He seems to be doing a good job of that so far. In the third episode, for instance, the Angels find a flower that the Internet has no information on. A group of bad guys wear this, and one of the Angels says that maybe they're dealing with an evil florist cabal. Guess what? This group is involved in a Scary Black Man's sweatshop business, and the man also reveals that those flowers are heroin on steroids. As proof, he shows them this one reporter he captured, made an addict out of her, and is using her as a guinea pig for the stuff. Yes, it's an evil florist cabal, and it's not nearly as campy or retro as it sounds.

3. John Bosley is once again Charlie's second-in-command and representative. Bosley is Badass in this series, with his being a tech-savvy hacker and able to fight and use a gun.

4. The three Angels are definitely flawed and are so not Mary Sues. Kate was a cop who took bribes and really had a Jumping Off the Slippery Slope situation. The second episode has her dealing with her ex-fiancé, and the third episode has her dealing with the reporter who exposed Kate as a Dirty Cop. Eve is a street racer who had to handle a child slavery ringleader as a child (her friend Gloria was in the same situation with Eve). Abby is a thief and she has yet to get an episode devoted to her.

It is going to be interesting to see what direction this show will go in.

...Well, OK.

This reminds me of the time I wrote off She-Spies. It turned out to circumvent as many cliches as it fell into.

This show just got cancelled, which REALLY sucks! That's what ABC gets for putting it on alongside The X Factor.

Saw last night's episode with Erica Durance.

Um, I saw one episode. It was rubbish. The leads were crap, the writing was cliched and the whole thing felt silly. No surprise its gone.

I heard that Charlies Angels got the plug pulled on it. I feel sad! sad Well, I'll admit that it had flaws. But hey, what's wrong with watching a flawed, silly show every now and then? I wonder if this show qualifies as an example of Too Bad To Last.
