Necropost! I just saw the pre-order announcement on Steam. "It won't be on PC" they said, "We don't have the resources" they said. High Moon, you liars, I love you.

If you've got a 360, I know that the demo is out as of... Today, actually.

I never played the multiplayer of the first game, but I played a bit of the demo last night, and apart from one really crappy host that disconnected (the migration didn't take too long, which was nice), it was certainly fun. The team deathmatch map had a really campable room that whole teams liked to chill in, but if you could organize your own team, a combination stealth attacks and vehicle fire support could definitely take the position. This definitely isn't the kind of game where going solo is going to win you many points, as the health and damage levels are tuned pretty well to making 1v1 fights nice and even, but having 2v1 fights be near impossible for the outnumbered side even if they are far more skilled.

The customization options are really cool looking, too, though I haven't unlocked much to play with yet. What's interesting is that you level up each class separately, which certainly gets you to try things out.

I've played a bit of the first game's multiplayer on PC and it's fun. It's not something that would displace my standbys, but it's pretty good.

Played the demo. I'm ecstatic and dissapointed at the same time.

The single-player campaign looks amazing. It's tighter, and the levels are built around the character you are assigned. Characters only have one ability that's more personalized to who they are, meaning even just the two levels they gave you played very differently. The characterization of the Transformers is both still spot-on and still hilarious, and the new models are even more expressive and colorful. You get both a regenerating shield and standard health bar, which works great.

On the other hand, the multiplayer. It's slower than before, and you only have one ability which removes a good deal of the strategy. The shield/health bar also doesn't work as well as it did in the campaign. I don't know. Maybe I just need to play a few more rounds to get used to it, but it's just not as fun as before. Also, I'm actually dying now instead of getting killstreak after killstreak and dominating the leaderboards [lol]

[up] Sounds like the multiplayer is just the singleplayer with the map(s) opened up. There are no more scripted events to add spice and terrain can't be tailored to maximize the utility of abilities.

Anyone ever play a demo for a game, and it makes you go out and buy the game before it? I played the demo for this, went to preorder it, and bought War for Cybertron. (Stuck on the very last boss, Trypticon. :( )

I've played the demo, and I like it. The MP isn't as good as before because it's so hard to hit people with melee. otherwise it feels suspiciously similar to Halo. It even has energy shields.

Was just going to bump this thread, as the game is out next week!

UK gamers can get a G1 pack as a preorder bonus from Gamestaton - G1 Optimus in SP and MP, and G1 Megatron and Shockwave in gun/blaster form respectively in SP.

Is it just me, or is Heavy the most powerful class again? The Scrapmaker is a beast of a gun, and I haven't seen anything in the other classes to match it.

Don't know. The Heavy was the big gun in War, but I got much better mileage out of the old Leader and Scientist classes.

The reason the Heavy is so good is the weaponry it can wield. Winning any offensive engagement in Fall of Cybertron is mostly dependent on how long you can keep shooting at the enemy.

The Scrapmaker deals a ton of damage and keeps firing for a long time. It destroys shields and can hit people from across the map. You can hide from it for a little while, but odds are it will find you before you can regenerate your health.

That's why the Heavy is the best class. It may not be as capable of defense like the other classes, but the best defense is a good offense and I would argue that there is no better an offense than the Heavy's.

The heavy soldier was just a Skill Gate Character. Use of it dropped off at higher play levels when people started discovering the whole "Guns do not equal everything" gamestyle. Really, the only thing keeping it competitive is whirlwind.

[up]I suppose you have an example of this? As far as I can see in Fall of Cybertron, the "Heavy" is the best.

Talkin' bout the first game. Haven't played enough of fall's MP to make any judgments yet.

It does bug me how some people disliked the first game (Lookin' at you gamspot) because guns where de-emphasized. "There's not enough ammo" my ass. You have melee attacks, special abilities, alternate forms and secondary weapons. If you run out of gun ammo and still can't kill anything, it's your own damn fault.

As far as I can see in Fall of Cybertron, the "Heavy" is the best.

Well, here's the thing. It's still early. Strategies haven't yet had time to develop, strategies that could render the Heavy obsolete.

If your entire judgement of a metagame is from small bursts of personal experience, you're doin' it wrong.

Not enough online players for War on PC. Just sayin'.

Will probably get Fall at some point, after I play the hell out of CS:GO and Mists of Pandaria.

Is there a rundown of who's playable in the single-player? Other than obvious ones like Optimus and Megatron and Grimlock.

EDIT: Found a list on Wikipedia.

We know that Grimlock, Bruticus, Blackout and Jazz will be playable in the campaign, just from the trailers. Bumblebee too.

Metacritic has the game at 82, giving it basically what I was expecting: improves upon the previous game and has some nice set-pieces but not necessarily one of the most in-depth and dynamic games ever made. Both positive and mixed reviews say that your enjoyment is largely based on how much you like the Transformers name.

I love it. The story is cooler if you like Transformers, but the gameplay is pretty awesome. It reminds me of Halo, actually.

Over all, it's a good game. I wonder if they'll ever make another one, considering this one ends with both sides going through the portal to Earth.

Any further sequels could possibly take us to the B-list players, the various sub-factions duking it out throughout the galaxy.
