[up] Of those, I like #2 best...I'd favor it over the Vader/Maul pic.

Just for the record, Vader vs Maul is from the AU, and it is considered canon.

Well, it's from Star Wars Expanded Universe, so make sure you point it at that, rather than just Star Wars.

You know, I don't like the tag "Whoever wins...we lose". I mean, the Predator has basically been preying on humans for millenia and them winning does not change the status quo much. Aliens on the other hand...

I thought this trope was the Good guys make / convince one evil group fight another thus weakening both usually devolving into a Mêlée à Trois?

Bump. I'm still liking Alien Vs Predator. Is it crowner time?

Sure

I still oppose AVP. Aliens aren't evil. Coz they aren't depicted as sentient in the films. They are animals. You'd not call a grizzly bear evil. Is it dangerous? Yes. Evil? No. Coz it's a fucking animal, and animals are incapable of moral judgement.

I might as well put an image of a bear fighting a badger. It'd fit the trope as well.

Well, that's probably nitpicky. The name says Evil, but the trope is more about Villains, Antagonists, and/or Characters Portrayed In An Unsympathetic Moral Light. "Neutral Hungry" isn't necessarily a disqualifying factor. Plus, it's such a great tagline. smile

[up][up] I'm gonna repeat myself: the alien that Giger designed for the original movie was the personification of rape itself, so the whole "aliens are animals" argument ends up being kinda nitpicky. That said, I'm still for Vader Vs Maul.

[up] And I'll repeat myself that unless you put an interview with HR Giger on the picture itself, most viewers don't know that. They'll see something that's no smarter than an animal. Heck, might as well put the T-Rex chomping on the Raptors from Jurassic Park.

[up]Uhm, no. By that logic, a person who doesn't know absolutely nothing about what an alien is supposed to be is not going to see neither an animal or a rapist, but rather "a monster". Which, 9 time out of 10, is an evil thing. Also it doesn't change the fact that being Mr.Rape makes it an example, no matter if it doesn't look like one to someone.

No, I mean someone who has seen only the movie, and not read any interviews from hr giger. Which is most people who'd reconize a xenomorph on sight.

My point is, next to no one knows of the "mr rape" thing. So intent or no, its Fan Myopia to expect that people do know it.

That would work better if not for the fact that it looks like they're shooting each other with squirt guns.

Also, pretty much the same thing is being used in Even Evil Has Standards (like, one panel away from that).

I personally think the image we have now works fine. I mean, it's Demons vs Monsters, and you don't need to be DND fan to get what's going on in the picture.

Joker/Red Skull and Vader/Maul aren't this trope: it is not just any bad guy versus another bad guy, it is specifically Villain Protagonist versus Villain Antagonist. Like Gru versus Vector. Alien versus Predator.

[up]AVP is not the example then. Since there's actually protagonists. The humans.

And FYI, the Vader / Maul thing IS an example, since Vader is the protagonist of the comic.

[up]The Villain Protagonist stuff has nothing to do with 90% of the examples and is likely to be purged by TRS, so that's not really relevant anyway.

Hm, I guess I meant "main character". There can be multiples. Seems like AVP is a classic example of "evil on both sides of the conflict". Possibly Vader/Maul fits but it feels like a What If?.

Also: hi! :)

I did kind of expect more hello's. Maybe I should have waited three days before whining! :)

Also I like #2 on this batch of AVP suggestions (smaller because I think a big image on a short article looks bad):
