My books are written in portuguese and, since I didn't truly finish them, I couldn't translate them yet.

I decided to make a test with Google Translator with the beginning of the first chapter of my third book. It had both good and weird parts. Then, I decided to put each translated paragraph in translation party, just for fun.

This is the result:

Please try to imagine a human being. Do either. In fact, in your case, those who read this, it is not so bad at that point. He and I live in a very strange disk space in the form of the human mind is not the right idea.

So humble and kind, intelligent, and many like him. childhood of her, including the complete event, DAT, son of general type is, he also, in addition to the life of his human on the planet, change the program of your life has been completed in 12 years has been raised would have to be. More often in bizarre accident, began to occur with certain people around you. After all, kill all who lived with him.

Very traumatized, and welcomed him, attempted to contact other friends. They are similar, and died within a few days. Circumstances of the accident so completely unpredictable. Obviously, he did not accept that it might be a coincidence. "I was not able to accomplish something that you are trying to understand the causes of these accidents you for your VE.

I know a man until a few years after the accident, the bank did not have anyone available. She feared for the fate of the people around you, living alone is very difficult. After long deliberation, he finally discovered what it was a curse.

津秋, and now he is part of the people before the accident involving the account specific conditions sufficient to prove that there is a chance to meet the more points required for each of them.

Her despair is immense. He tried several times to think about some of his anger and suicide, life must go to find a way to remove the curse of his motives. He is fully aware of the success in life, he was unable to pay a high price in order to try to prevent accidents.

Her personality changed completely. If you do not respect the neighborhood, he was not cold, indicating that people are reluctant to close, attention was no longer humble.

If possible, it is necessary to survive in the same way you interact with others, it was necessary to investigate a curse on it, can be separated as much as possible. His interaction with the minimum requirements for the accident, seeking a balance of attitude, sometimes it was more suffering for their moment.

As virtually indistinguishable from normal accidents that occur at low frequencies, the results are displayed in the disaster. Many people, most of his compassion for the case of a mixture of curiosity, I hate that feeling of fear.

He found the cause of this curse, and could not lived this way for several years. He has his own day, had received a serious dilemma, and his motivation have been removed gradually.

He just insulted, rejected the disgust many people were watching. She pursued him, you will be asked to explain their attitudes. Accident, for her, she survived. Her accident while he was aware that the more frequently encountered, tries to protect her.

Since they have you, I want to remove the curse or necessary to protect other people you never heard the end of the example, he does not need you to hold it there I did not know that. If you need to defend his position before the end of the trial is 0 again, it's not, not, she can attack the victims whether it is passive in nature it is It is often possible, I have been known to know the meaning to life, not her case.

She loved him, and his main task is to protect the rest of the day and III, and I love people, if necessary, they spent just unpopular. It is, I do not want her to die, but it is not, yet he said.

Yes, cruel and brutal, both died in a tragic accident. His curse has plagued some of his life.

He is doomed.

All who love him will be destroyed.

Now, let's see if there's anyone who can find out what this is all about.

I thought it started out not too bad. Then I got to the second paragraph.

Seems less My Hovercraft Is Full of Eels and more of a grammar thing. Why is there a random Chinese character?

Translation Party goes back and forth from English to Japanese until it reaches an equilibrium. Most likely some word was untranslatable both ways.

My favorite part is probably "津秋, and now he is part of the people before the accident involving the account specific conditions sufficient to prove that there is a chance to meet the more points required for each of them. "

Note that "he", "you", "I" and, in some cases, "she", all refer to the same person.

By the way, that first paragraph is supposed to be "Imagine a human being. Any will do. In reality, this being was not human, but those who read this probably are. The true appearance of this individual cannot be normally conceived by the human mind, for the universe where it lived was extraordinarily different. "

I put a paraphrased quote from something Shakespeare through it, "they shall hold their manhoods cheap while any speaks that fought with us upon saint crispin's day". I got "They fought to protect their manhoods cheap Crispin Latter-day Saints, please contact". Snerk. I love it when these translators come out with stuff completely out of nowhere, like the Latter-day Saints here.

I plan to write a scene in a later book where a character's Translator Microbes break down, resulting in some automatic translator-fueled Zero Wingrish. Does that count?

[up] Good idea. I also have Translator Microbes in my second book, but they become useless after a while because the most powerful aliens learn to speak our languages.

[up] Translation party failed to translate that one back, for some reason. It keeps translating between Japanese and English until it reaches a point where the translation no longer changes or enters an infinite loop.

You know what's even more fun? Putting Old Norse poetry through Google's Icelandic translator. Some parts of þrymskviða (the one where Þór wears a dress) suddenly became incredibly phallic, and instead of putting a cap on his head they put a glans on his head.

what the hell translator

By the way, this is the official translation I came up with (I'd be happy if someone rated my translation skills. English is not my first language):

Imagine a human being. Any will do. In reality, this being was not human, but those who read this probably are. The true appearance of this individual cannot be normally conceived by the human mind, for the universe where it lived was extraordinarily different.

As a humble, intelligent and kind person, many liked him. His childhood was filled with events common to the lives of children of his species, however, as he reached the equivalent age of twelve terrestrial years, his existence was completely changed.

Strange accidents, increasingly frequent, began to occur with certain people around him. Eventually, all who lived with him died.

Extremely traumatized, he tried to contact other acquaintances, who sheltered him. Similarly, they died within a few days. Completely unpredictable accidents in unlikely circumstances. Obviously, he could not accept the possibility that it was a mere coincidence. He sought to comprehend the cause of those accidents, but failed to reach a conclusion.

As the years passed, new accidents occurred until he could no longer be accompanied by anyone else. He decided to live alone with great difficulty, fearing for the destiny of those around him. After pondering for a long time, he finally realized what his curse was about.

He had considered several possibilities as many fit the necessary criteria, but, at a certain point, specific individuals involved in the calamities were enough to determine which one was true.

His despair was immeasurable. He even thought about committing suicide, however, his fury motivated him to keep on living to find out a way to vanquish his curse. He was fully aware that his life would never be normal, therefore, he paid a high price in an attempt to prevent more accidents.

His personality was entirely changed. He no longer displayed humility or respect for his immediates, but indifference, coldness and, to those who tried to approach closer, contempt.

He sought to be as independent as possible, but, regardless of his will, he had to interact with others to survive and to investigate his curse. Those were the moments when he suffered the most, looking for a balance in his attitude which allowed the minimum interaction without triggering any accidents.

The result was evident: casualties were less frequent, becoming virtually indistinguishable from natural incidents. Many hated him, but the majority felt some mixture of fear, pity and curiosity.

He lived many years like this, but couldn't discover the true cause of his curse. His motivation slowly faded, until, one day, he found himself tormented by a great dilemma.

There was a person who refused to hate him, regardless of how obnoxious he tried to be. She pursued him, demanding an explanation for his attitude. Accidents occurred to her, but she survived. He tried to protect her, and, when she found out, disasters occurred even more often.

Finally, when he realized that any effort to protect her would be futile if her misfortune kept increasing, he told her about his curse. He knew that, with her newfound knowledge, her chances of survival would become practically void. Then, in a final attempt to protect her, he insulted and even tried to physically hurt her, but hesitated in the last moment.

He did not want her to die, but didn't want her to hate him either, so he spent the rest of his days expending a formidable effort to protect the only person who still loved him and that he loved.

Both died in the same relentless catastrophe, in a brutal and painful way. His curse afflicted him for several other lives.

He is Doom.

All who love him will be destroyed.

This is part of the backstory of my villain (the one who inflicted the curse on him), and is the least horrible of the four curses depicted in the first chapter.

Also, "Doom" will probably be changed in the final translation.

Technically, they're not literal Translator Microbes, but magic. The scenario is something like this (this book is still a ways in the future): The main character needs to get help from a visiting dignitary from a foreign country. He's spoken with her before, but at that time, she had a human interpreter. However, they need to meet at night, when said interpreter is off-duty and asleep. Said dignitary attempts to whip up a spell to translate for them automatically, and the results are less than stellar. They then have to pull off the Zany Scheme of that portion of the book while barely understanding each other.

Also, your translation isn't bad, but there's a couple places that do feel slightly unnatural. It's more of a "flow" thing than a grammar thing, though, so it may be less a language issue and more just a writing-tweak issue.

[up] I'd love to see a Zany Scheme being carried on like that.

Any examples of this unnatural flow? I actually had to make a big effort to avoid Beige Prose (I also struggled with the few synonyms of "accident"). I guess it would be much easier if I started writing the book in English, instead of translating it.
