Phi Brain Kami No Puzzle

AniDB page

(The MAL page will be posted once the hacking saga that's currently affecting the site is finished)

I saw that there wasn't a thrad for this anime, so I decided to make one.

The first episode was pretty fun, if not great. How many anime can claim to have Sudoku (although it wasn't a major part of the plot or anything), super tsundere kicks and classical Greek mythology references at the same time?

I will probably keep watching, even though I don't think it's going to be all that good by the end.

Outside the Super Tsundere kick (Uggh), I think it was very unique and original.

The only cool thing about this show is that our hero's arm bracelet things looks like that owl from Clash of the Titans.

I think this show succeeded where it needed to : make puzzles look cool. Sure, it's very stupid, but enjoyably so.

It's like Professor Layton mixed with Yu Gi Oh. I'm amused. [lol]

Don't mind me. I'm just a creepy little lurker.

I'm a sucker for the puzzle genre. It looks like to me it'll only be that way half the show and then switch to some other logic type match.

Second episode is out.

I like how they don't show us the solutions to the Real Life puzzles. On the stairs, I've seen the first two before and the number one is actually quite easy once you figure it out, but I had go back and look at it for a bit. Though that Sage Puzzle... I could figure out the primary solution in that time limit.

For those having trouble with the number puzzle here are a couple hints and the solution. Unfortunately, I can not think of any subtle hints.

  • Hint1: There are 4 separate shapes
  • Hint2: Notice how the numbers are placed where the shapes overlap
  • Hint3: Additional hints should not be necessary, but there is one hidden in this sentence anyway
  • Solution: Each shape has it's own value (which equals the number of sides that shape has). The numbers are the total of the values that "overlap" there. A=13, B=0.

The scary thing is that you could theoretically solve it without four of the numbers. Just take out the 3, 4, 5, and 6. That leaves you with having to figure out that the numbers equal the sides of each shape. Still possible to do, just a whole lot less obvious.

Hello? Sorry for the double post, but I was wondering if anyone has anything else to say about the second episode.

(please don't be another Cardfight Vanguard - a show that I like but no one else wants to talk aboutsad)

The second episode? Hm... Galileo would be irritating in just about any other series, but fits right into the flow they have going. Oh, and the time limit for that last puzzle was far too generous

Yeah the time limit was way too generous. Considering their skill level, a ten minute puzzle would have to be at least 5 times as large.

Plus, the way Kaito saved them was a total cheat and only worked because the software being used was apparently really shoddy.

What, you wanted an inside-the-box solution?

A show about puzzles that doesn't give the viewer a chance to solve the puzzle without pausing the video and eyeballing movable parts is about as enjoyable as a mystery show where all the clues are withheld until the detective solves the case.

^There's absolutely no reason the solution should have worked. You can't crash cars into other cars in a Rush Hour puzzle.

If that solution had been intended by the designer, it would've been perfectly acceptable, but since it wasn't, I'm left scratching my head at how badly made the whole thing must've been if that was possible.

I mean, if you can do that, it undermines the whole point of the puzzle, so how could one have possibly failed to take it into account when designing the mechanism?

Must have something to do with using real cars.

Really, it just makes me crack up. Rush Hour with real cars. Man those dudes have a lot of money to spend.

This show is really not that smart. But that's okay, it's hip and all.

Yeah, of course "X-Treme!Pr Layton'' is a dumb concept. But so far it's been well executed enough to be entertaining.

IT'S ABOUT PUZZLES

WHY IS IT TRYING TO BE ANYTHING OTHER THAN SMART

Ok, the third episode is MUCH better than the second. The puzzles were better and the final one was almost impossible to solve. I did figure out part of the solution quite a while before the characters did, but that is only because I paid attention to the law of Conservation of Detail.

I do wonder if there will ever be a Giver that is not fired for trying to "complete" their puzzle after it is solved.

^^^The final puzzle was impossible to solve because they didn't give you all the information.

What a waste of time.

No... the only bit of information that was actually "left out" was the bit about the magic square. And if they had had more time (AKA Edison not interfering), they could have found more numbers and probably recognized it in time. I know I figured out that the positions of the numbers on the map was going to be important from the time the first number was found. Why else have the map and have numbers appear on it?

Though I do know that I probably would not have recognized the magic square, mostly because I have not done many of them and the ones I have done were 3x3, not 4x4.

^But there was no way for you to know where a certain number was until Kaito got back to the map. Before that it was the three guys shouting out random numbers at things and hoping it counted, while you were left with no way to do anything with the information you were given.

They got the first number while looking at the map, saw it appear, and the other numbers showed up on the map at the same places where they were spotted (true, they could not see them appear, but they could assume that is what happened). Just from those first two points, I figured out that the placement of the numbers on the grid was going to be determined by their placement in the park. Otherwise, there was no reason to have the map or numbers on the screen. Once the puzzle solver got ~5 of the numbers, they would have enough information to go back to the map, figure out the placement, and understand that it forms a magic square.

The only "impossible" part of the puzzle was the time limit.

And yes, good puzzles are Serious Business tongue

You two are talking about different things, here. Funnyguts is saying it wasn't possible for the viewers to solve it on their own, and Belian was talking about whether or not it was possible for the characters to solve it.
