The God Of War clone reboot?
Let's re-make Simon's first adventure again!
No but seriously... 1999?
I have a message from another time...I agree. They should worry about the one game fans want to see before having to go through with other timelines and new stories and whathaveyou. It's going to be like Lord of Shadows and DmC: Devil May Cry all over again if they just reboot the franchise when there's still hanging plot threads that need to be resolved.
"Oh no, Sanji's Chronic Simprosis!" - Kou The MadActually I am refering to Lord's of Shadow...
Guess I'm the only one that actually likes that game.
I didn't think it was a bad game from what I've played. It's just that with Hideo Kojima's involvement, the whole thing felt more like Metal Gear Solid with the Castlevania label slapped on it than an actual Castlevania game.
"Oh no, Sanji's Chronic Simprosis!" - Kou The MadI liked it. In particular, the visual design (quite apart from the graphics) was absolutely gorgeous.
Swordsman Troper — Reclaiming The Blade — WatchThe game was a masterpiece, but not a Castlevania masterpiece.
ALL CREATURE WILL DIE AND ALL THE THINGS WILL BE BROKEN. THAT'S THE LAW OF SAMURAI.A common misconception about Lords of shadow is that it was an all new game with the Castlevania label slapped on later in development. In fact it was originally a remake of one of the earlier Castlevania games. There's actually footage of their concepts for Simon Belmont on You Tube:

Kojima wanted a more heroic and sympathetic character, So Gabriel was created. It was probably the Spanish producers' idea to expand the Christian elements beyond the simple presence of crosses and holy water.
It seemed to me that the producers wanted this to be the Batman Begins of Castlevania. With any luck the sequel will be a Dark Knight
Just my opinion.
I didn't stay that I thought this game was a Dolled-Up Installment, but that that's how the game felt like while playing it. Although, to be honest, I don't think I could stomach playing through Simon Belmont's assault on Castlevania in 1691 for a sixth time.
"Oh no, Sanji's Chronic Simprosis!" - Kou The MadSo Simon Belmont ISN'T sympathetic?
Well, I guess not... But he's plenty Heroic, isn't he?
ALL CREATURE WILL DIE AND ALL THE THINGS WILL BE BROKEN. THAT'S THE LAW OF SAMURAI.I'm interested in the potential of further installments, but I won't pretend I wasn't disappointed by how it wasn't a Metroidvania.
Swordsman Troper — Reclaiming The Blade — WatchNever played Lo S but thought it looked more like CV than anything to come out of the franchise in ages, go fig
Except [condescending response follows]. Because [sarcasm here]. You do understand [snark], right? POTHOLE TO SARCASM MODEMaybe in terms of the gothic atmosphere and dark/religious imagery, but not so much in the gameplay department. Then again, this series and 3D have never really mixed all that well.
"Oh no, Sanji's Chronic Simprosis!" - Kou The MadFor what it's worth, I also think Lords Of Shadow did better with the God Of War gameplay than God Of War did. In the latter, it was possible to button mash all the way through all three games. In this, the scarcity of health pickups made that impossible. It's important throughout the game to manage your magic and avoid damage wherever possible, so you have to pick and choose your combos while maintaining initiative in combat. Overall, it's a much more measured combat experience.
Also, I'll take Germanic mythology over Greek any day.
Swordsman Troper — Reclaiming The Blade — WatchLord Of Shadow was a good game, screw the whole "omggowclone!, I dont see the anithing like that or any resemblance in it, oh and finally, a non-metroidvania game, keep it coming, thats the kind of game I want to play
http://steamcommunity.com/id/Xan-Xan/It still didn't feel like a Castlevania game, and I'm not just talking about it not being a Metroidvania either.
"Oh no, Sanji's Chronic Simprosis!" - Kou The MadIt was a Castlevania game for me, maybe the fanbase went agrro when they realised that the creator likes Twilight
http://steamcommunity.com/id/Xan-Xan/It has nothing to do with Kojima apparently liking Twilight, although it probably does have to do with the narrative taking cues from MGS and the heavier emphasis on action in battle. I know that certain games like to get experimental with the gameplay, but compared to the typical Castlevania mold as a whole, LoS sticks out like a sore thumb.
"Oh no, Sanji's Chronic Simprosis!" - Kou The MadI'm one of the few that liked the series when they weren't one Metroidvania one after the other, so that bit I DID like about Lords of Shadow.
ALL CREATURE WILL DIE AND ALL THE THINGS WILL BE BROKEN. THAT'S THE LAW OF SAMURAI.Most unnecessary reboot and genre shift ever. I hope that at least the handheld games will continue to be sidescrolling Metroidvanias. *crosses fingers for Castlevania 3DS*
I just wish they made another Classicvania. Or better yet, made the 1999 game a Classicvania.
In fact, I want the Belmont Pimp Walk back in full force again >:/
ALL CREATURE WILL DIE AND ALL THE THINGS WILL BE BROKEN. THAT'S THE LAW OF SAMURAI.-taps badge on chest-
REBOOT!
On a serious note, no. No reboot. This IP doesn't need to be rebooted. There's still room for Dracula killing, specifically 1999. Not to mention post-Soma Dracula's revival.
Also, while I prefer the Metroidvanias, I have to admit I adore the old games. I especially adore playing as the extra characters in the Metroidvanias.
Oh, I've yet to truly enjoy a 3D Castlevania game. Even LoS. I dunno, it just didn't seem right. The visuals were spot-on, but it felt like a new shade of paint on a game I didn't particularly like.
I found metroidvanias overrated, this reboot was IMO worth my money

Any ideas for what should happen with the sequel/s to Lords of Shadow?
