Wired link

The Onstar service has said they will continue to track the drivers even after they cancel the service and retain the info. Supposedly the individual customers can ask them not to. The data they keep, they have stated they reserve the right to sell it.

Honestly I think they have no business doing this. Tracking you without a warrant should not be done by either government or private industry.

And now I'm glad that Camry's don't come with Onstar. I was never a fan of vehicles that can be stopped from the outside.

I smell a violation of Fourth Amendment lawsuit that Onstar cannot possibly win...

Hey look, Onstar's found one of those sorts of violations of the constitution neither side of the political aisle finds pleasing, bravo!

Never, because corporations want to run your life and/or know everything they can about you. (Generic you)

They want as many ways to make money off of you as possible. This includes "collecting" information on you and selling it off. They use dirty tricks and questionable legal practices to ensure you can't stop them or tell them how to use your info.

Well, now when I go to buy a car I'm gonna demand that the dealership "rip out all fucking On Star electronics, devices, and anything else to do with that damned service."

If they won't, I'll grab a technical manual and do it my goddamned self.

I agree with Major Tom here. There is no way they are going to be able to justify this in court.

It's a shame, because Onstar really has the potential to be awesome; from notifying rescue workers in the event of a collision, to shutting off the engine of a stolen vehicle. Hope there's fallout from this and it sets them on the right track again.

Chad not sure what you wanted to link but it reminded me to link to a wired article.
