Alex knew the Mysterions because he was friends with the heads of almost all of the Guild houses. The timeline linked earlier in this thread mentions that Alex actually attended a proper military academy, so the most likely reason for why he's captain of the Silvana is that he was appointed to command it, though you'd think the Anatoray military would be more openly hostile towards him if he'd really took off like a bandit with their single most powerful warship.

Edit: Herpaderp the page for Silvana on the very same wiki also happens to say exactly this. They don't cite any official material though but when do fandom wikis ever.

Right, now I do remember that he used to be a proper military captain (his friendship with Vincent being one of the major reminders of that), but I totally missed that the S Ilvana was an actual product of the navy of Anatoray.

Also, that's not Lucciola...unless that's not what you were trying to say...

Looks like him though. But still an asshole: who would use a peace talk meet as an ambush.

Plenty of people in real life, that's who. You were surprised by it? It's a federation. They're almost always evil backstabbing bastards for some reason. Just like how pirates are always heroes who just don't like rules.

I'm not especially impressed with the plot as it's been so far- Very, very generic, at least to me. Blah blah blah Friendly Chaotic Good Sky Pirates who apparently only capture ships captained by assholes blah blah blah The Federation is evil and loves war blah blah blah The Kingdom is nice if naive blah. But it has potential, and all the unanswered questions are the real hook. Why's Dio there? Are they on Earth or what? What happened to Anatoray and Disith? Why did they let a Guild person take command again?

[up]If this is a sequel, assume they're on Earth. The two countries from before seemed to have merged after their landfall. Exiles are returning to Earth one by one it seems.

It might not be Earth. Well, I mean, it has six moons.

For all we know, humanity somehow made it to another proper planet somewhere, one like Earth but with more moons, and Exile somehow knows to go there.

The present of a Guild member suggests that maybe somehow this is another Prester, though, where the Guild has not neglected their duties but some of them are up to something, and perhaps therefore have sent someone to Ades.

And yeah, the Ades president does look weirdly like Lucciola, and almost even has a similar name, but there's no way he could be, seeing as Lucciola is dead (yeah I know we thought Dio was too, but never mind that) and I figure if this guy is the respected president of a whole federation, he's probably been at it for years, and it hasn't been that long since the first series.

Well, the guild in the original Last Exile was finally "branching out for new blood" but it was kind of too late. It was already corrupted. Alex's girlfriend which died, was part guild.

Also, oh my lord if you freeze frame during the opening you can see and Older Alvis... sooooo cute! evil grin in fact, I'll make her my avatar here!

A few theories...

1) This is the same Pester as before... however that leaves open many questions/plot holes. The land has been engulfed in war for 100 years. This means this war was going on during The events of last exile (but why didn't we hear about it?).

2) Or it includes the events from the last exile, but then the issue is again why didn't we hear about these countries before? Only reason I can actually thing might be since Anatoray (and respectively Disith) was closest to the grand stream on their respective sides.

3) or..... I don't know anymore. I am so very confused right now, so very very confused.... I hope they explain it. I really do.

4) CRACK POT THEORY TIME! The Ades Federation is referred to as a Federation. A Federation is a union of self-governing states under one rule. Since Tatyana is in Federation uniform on the Last exile 2's official website, The Ades Federation is the combinations of the countries of Anatoray and Disith (and maybe others) which happened after the events of the first last exile.

This explains why there is guild in the Federation as Antoray had some guild connections beforehand.

This would Also explain why the ships look different, though a bit like Antoray ships. The guild being resolved would lead to the people having to find "new" ways to fly their large ships, and thus the creation of a new claudia engine and ship style.

Animation Anatomy Aging, remember. Also, I just want to see Mullin and Dunya. tongue

I was thinking that the Federation might be Anatoray and Disith combined, but where does the Kingdom come from? And why would the Feder Tion let the guys who they rebelled against and were enslaved by for so long take control? If he actually won by legal and fair election (which I doubt) it's even stranger. You'd think there'd be some lingering hostility, perhaps.

I can try and track down a source if you guys really want me to but LE:FAM IS set on Earth, that's already been confirmed. Apparently chapter 3 of the manga adaptation (so this will probably happen around episode three of the anime) explains the extra moons and such. Plus, if you flip the map shown upside down and move the countries around a little bit you realize that the show is set around the Mediterranean.

If it has a plot then I have something to say about it!

Not to mention the author could suddenly toss the theory of relativity into the travel time. But I don't think (s)he will.

[up]Oh, really? This should be an interesting explanation.

[up][up]Ah, thank you. As long as the moons are explained, I have no problem with this being on Earth. I was all prepared to argue (good-naturedly, but still...) with you guys about how/why it couldn't be the same old Prester as always...

I don't see how it can be the Mediterranean sea. I've been looking at the map and a map of the sea and NOTHING lines up. Unless they use "this is the future" excuse were the whole Balearic sea and Sea of Crete part of the Mediterranean got filled in, then I could see it.

checking other lakes/seas to see if anything lines up.

Here's the map comparison that someone else made (the dark gray country, think that's Ades, matches up fairly well with Turkey).

I see it. That long, straight body of water above the expanding part of Ades looks just like the Red Sea. That would make Grand Lake the Black Sea, mean Ades is located in Turkey, and put Turan in... Russia, I believe.

@djmaca: The third image in that set overlies the upper-left corner of the "our Earth" map with the top-center of the "Last Exile Earth" map. The shape of that lake (and the little strips of water between it and the bigger lake) are practically identical. The rest...I can see the resemblance, but it's not nearly as strong.
